      @mysuperpack63 5 лет назад +30

      Completely agree. Plus every dog is different. I have three, one of them doesn't care for tricks so I didn't push her but the other two have so much fun trying to figure out what they're supposed to do and when they find the right answer and I reward them with a treats jackpot :) You don't have to teach your dog any trick if you don't want to, but don't dismiss people you do

  • @esikazemese
    @esikazemese 5 лет назад +464

    We teach dogs tricks because they need mental "workouts" as well. It's a good way to engage their attention from destroying things. The more smart the dog is, the more they need the brain stimulation. It is also a great bonding exercise and supposed to do it only for as long as they enjoy it. So you might reconsider teaching him stuff. Not to show off...

    I'm teaching my dog tricks as 1) it is a form of cognitive enrichment which I think is important for the wellbeing of a reasonably smart animal 2) he may get pleasure from getting something right and getting a reward 3)it can be a good bonding between owner and dog 4)it can be a form of exercise

    Hey a tip, have set feeding times. Doing this is good for a dog because it helps with their digestive system and with them going to the bathroom also allows the dog to have food reassurance, so they know when they’re feeding times are instead of just waiting to be feed randomly.

      Our Whippey is off the leash 90% of the time, at parks, woodland, beach, etc learnt him recall from a very young age and he has no issues coming back. Acme gundog whistle training is also a good way to be able to let them off. Given Whippets love of running its also essential they get time off the leash.

    Teaching a dog tricks isn't to show off. It's actually pretty important that dogs know more than just sit and come. They should know down, sit, come, stay, leave it ect. So that they are 1) well behaved and 2) it stimulates their minds and makes them less likely to be destructive when they are mentally stimulated.

    • @Jornandreja
      @Jornandreja 4 года назад +3

      The interaction also develops the bond between owner and dog. They don't hate the part where they get rewarded either! Treats and affection. Your #2 reason is also very important for working and hunting breeds. They go nuts if they don't have something to do for too long.

    My dog used to have separation anxiety when we left the house. I read somewhere that you should not make coming and going a big deal, because this increases separation anxiety. So, when we come home, we don't pet her or talk to her a lot until we're settled down and she's settled down. I might calmly say hello, but that's it. No physical contact. When she's settled down, then we can pet her and love on her, which is also a reward for being calm.
    When we leave, we don't say goodbye and we don't make eye contact. We just walk out calmly.
    After a few weeks of doing this, she stopped showing signs of separation anxiety. It was hard to train ourselves to do this at first, because we always want to love on her. We'd sometimes say "bye!" and then see that anxious look in her eye and realize we messed up.
    We set a camera up and saw that she doesn't wait by the door for hours anymore when we leave, she just goes to lay in her bed or she sometimes plays with toys. When we come home, she's also calm now and doesn't jump all over us. She will lay on the couch and watch us calmly until we're ready to pet her.

    I love this video! I grew up with a Whippet. He was literally my best friend. I was/am super sensitive to people’s feeling, have autism and my dad had a mental breakdown in my early years. I often think how would I had survived my childhood if it hadn’t been for him. He knew when I was sad and would always come comfort me. My mom had him before I was born and he loved to be 17 years old. When he died I was devastated. Most all dogs give unconditional love but Whippets seem to be kindred spirits. Watching your video was so amazing as our whippet is identical apart from colour and location. I cant believe how alike they all are and there was not a single part of your video that was different to ours.

      I have a part whippet and rat terrier, also a rescue. She was returned to rescue a couple times. Very energetic just needs exercise.

    He is a very bright and healthy looking little fella, well done. Our boy knew two tricks, he was very good at them;
    1; leaning on people he liked (everyone he met)
    2; standing in front of the television.

    My whippet is an excellent guard dog. Very protective of "his" home and me. He's not aggressive in the least bit but alerts us when someone approaches our house and I would bet 10 paychecks he'd attack anyone trying to hurt me.

    I have a whippet/dachshund mix and this video basically describes her. She's always sleeping in the sun and loves to be under covers. Too warm and cozy is not a thing for her. She's a bit smaller than Snoot cause of the dachshund, and so I have to be careful not to sit on her if she's hidden under blankets. And at least once every couple days she dreams out loud where she'll growl, yip, and sometimes try to run. Snoot is so cute, and I bet he was a cute pup too.
