When Florida banned greyhound racing, my wife and I started looking at adopting a retired racer. There was a local organization here in northern Indiana that took in those dogs and adopted them out. They were so great at working with us to find the right dog for us. We've had our lovely girl for almost 4 years and she turns 8 years old in September of this year. I really don't think I'd adopt a different breed. Especially since there are still plenty of greyhounds out there looking for forever homes.
We have adopted our third Greyhound after losing two before due to cancer. They are wonderful pets. There are thousands out there waiting to be adopted!
I consider them to be the "Lays Potato Chip" of the dog world. "You can't just have one!" I have 6 right now and I have had as many as 8 at one time! Yup, I'm nuts!
My ex girlfriend had a Greyhound. First time ever meeting one! I was blown away by how calm, cuddly, and lazy this dog was. Long story short, I had to adopt one! I always wanted a dog but never knew which would be the right fit. I love my Grey and will never get a different breed again! ♥️
I have a greyhound and he only really barks when he wants to be let back inside or when he's really excited to out for a walk, and we got our greyhound from greyhounds as pets NZ, and I love him so much. Greyhounds are the best pets ever, I would highly recommend adopting one!
We owned 2 greyhounds, we loved them. Everyone that met them described them as sweet. Both of them have passed now, but the love and memories of the 2 of them will never die.
Everything they say here about greyhounds is true. Mine used his paw to pet ME!!! Lovely gentle, sweet presence in the house. Watched TV and listened to music. On occasion he would sing with Enya. Extremely intuitive animal, a pleasure to live with. On top of everything else the breed is naturally elegant and poised as no other breed. Subtly, silently a greyhound will steal your heart.
I have just adopted. Collecting Saturday 24th and cannot wait!!! The whole family is super excited! Thanks to GAP. They are fantastic in what they provide you. All the info, tutorials, the adoption days. Fantastic stuff.
I have owned my beautiful Greyhound Santee for 11 years and can say this is one of best dogs that i have ever owned. She travels with me everywhere and travels easely. She just loves people and especially my grand kids. I would recommend this breed highly.
love this video...this needs to be put on national tv as a commercial or better still as a promo on the morning shows....I know this would be very hard to do but I am hopeful to see this shown to a greater audience through national tv....
kess mcc i adore greyhounds. We usually have their smaller cousin, whippets. My last beautiful whippy boy we rehomed was exactly the same quiet, dignified personality as a greyhound. Everybody loved him straight away. He was beautiful to live with. Can't wait to see him again. My present whippy's are crossed with a greyhound, so they are smaller, but you can see the greyhound in them, esp the boy, who is so calm and dignified. Beautiful dogs. I think, personally, that you can't beat a greyhound.
I just LOVE these dogs. I fostered Nelson 3 years ago, he is a greyhound. I have grown up with my family always having a family dog, all breeds but never a greyhound. My children grew up with a beautiful Collie mix who was wonderful. When Nelson arrived I did not know just how quickly he would steal all of our hearts. He is the sweetest, calming , loyal, funny, lazy and did I say funny☺ loving, intelligent dog I have ever gotten to know. I would love to get another (and who knows I might) as I have heard two keep each other company and they love the company of another dog. Anyway if anyone is considering this breed, be warned they are addictive and will win you over before you can say - GREYHOUND- ☺ I said I would foster Nelson for a week, 3 years later and he is still here and very much a family member. I fought it for at least a minute, but he had me and my family within a short time of being in our home. Good luck to anyone thinking of re-homing a greyhound, you are in for a treat.
i had a greyhound for 9 years; I got him when he was retired at 5 years old and we became best friends. That friendship lasted over miles of walks, flying and sailing AND he was a couch potato who never smelled 'doggy' or barked. Dash was my best friend, in the retrospect of my life. He loved my kids. He quietly, was very respectful around other dogs and only growled once that I can remember when a little *shole dog keep getting into his dish at feeding time. The only criticism was that his need to take a huge dump (twice per day because their speed is fed by a very healthy appetite). I loved my dog so much, I am reluctant to even try again because it hurt so bad when I lost him. My son and I buried our friend at sea while aboard our 42 ft sailboat. He lived on board, in his own berth. He didn't particularly care for sailing but loved the hell out flying, especially the landings... My favorite story about Dash no pun intended - he was named after a character I wrote for a short book about adventure); anyway, we were going for one of our walks when he blasted after a jack rabbit. Normally a big jack will run in an arc to get back to his hole. Well, this time, 'ol jack kept running in a straight line down this soft dirt road. They looked like two small pickup trucks tearing up the countryside. After about 100 to 150 yds, Jack looks up at this stranger pacing him, at top speed, and Dash looked back at him. Heh, that literally scared him to death and he died right then and there like a blown out tire.. Dash just sniffed him and tired as hell, slowly trotted back home. I felt bad for jack but it WAS funny.
Have a 3yr old greyhound/saluki ... waiting a couple more years and go get him a iggy companion and looking forward to my boy showing the little beaut the world and protecting. Love iggys!!!
I grew up with poodles/poodle mix. My last childhood dog (a cavoodle) sadly crossed the rainbow bridge in January this year. In the haze of grief, Greyhounds were suggested to me and I was embarrassingly unaware they were an option as a pet. Long story short, I ended up volunteering at the GAP shelter and met my sweet girl. I’ve had her about three months and couldn’t be more besotted with her.
Important points people should know if adopting a ex racing greyhound, because many get sent back way too soon. 1. As they have never lived in a home you must give them around 12 months to settle in. They can protest wee in the house but this will stop as soon as they realise this is their forever home and you always come back. 2. Some dogs were trained to chase live prey so if its furry and moves then its prey. Remember its instinct to a greyhound as they are prey driven. 3. Some greyhounds are aggressive to all other breeds of dog except sight hounds so for this reason and point 2 you should muzzle them especially if off the lead. 4. Be careful waking them up as they can snap although not bite. They can be asleep with eyes slightly open so make sure to make a loud noise to wake them up rather than a stroke. Again eventually after a while this really does get better to the point you could probably stroke them while asleep but remember the saying..."let sleeping dogs lie" 5. Keep food out of the way as before you know it its in their mouth and they can eat odd things, ours ate a candle once! 6. If you let them off the lead make sure they are good with recall and take plenty of treats because in a straight line they can hit 50mph in a blink of an eye. One minute they are there, 2 seconds later they are gone! Before you know it they are over half a mile away. 7. Due to them having clear sight for up to a mile away they will see things you can not so its quite normal for them to act like they are seeing ghosts! Do not let the above put you off as they are the greatest companion you could ever wish for :)
It doesn't take them 12 months to adjust. That is bull crap. They adjust very quickly, some in a few days, others in a few months, but never a year. Greyhounds are not trained to chase live prey. Here in the USA it is illegal to use live prey and has been for over 20 years. Greyhounds can get along just fine with smaller dogs, cats and even rabbits. They are not aggressive to other dogs. Greyhounds have been around other breed dogs in the farms and at the kennels. They will bond nicely with other dogs in the home and most will just walk away from other dogs on walks. You have a lot to learn about greyhounds.
Most of this is spot on - I’m two weeks into fostering and my girl is 3. She has a LOT of energy and even with 3 walks a day, sometimes she still has loony, barking moments. She often freezes on her lead when other dogs approach or pass by - she also goes for some small dogs and I have to pull her back. She isn’t fully toilet trained and she gets sleep startle. All of that being said, she is a beautiful dog with a lovely nature. Make no mistake, taking in an ex racer can be very hard work. It’s entirely worth it though.
@@kengelina Greyhounds aren't hard work at all. They adjust quickly and are very happy to just lounge around the house and sleep most of the day. Toilet training should be easy and they should know by a few days not to potty in the house. All of my greyhounds and all of my fosters through the years were house trained in 2 or 3 days, some the very 1st day. Greyhounds are the easiest breed to own, very laid back and very smart. They learn quickly.
we had many different dogs as pets while growing up on a farm and without a doubt greyhounds are the most affectionate dogs I have ever known.... we rescued two greyhounds and they are absolutely the best... they are 75 pound lap dogs... if you are looking for a great pet I wholeheartedly recommend greyhounds, whatever love and affection you give them they will return it tenfold
This is great but the Greyhound racing industry generates huge numbers of beautiful dogs that end up with a bullet in their head because they don't meet their trainers expectations. Sure adopt a Greyhound but also lobby to have the racing industry severely scrutinised for the treatment of these beautiful animals.
Sadly, money talks and greases the palms of policy makers. As long as the racing industry is profitable (it is on the decline), there will be dog racing. Public pressure could change that, but most people don't care about issues that don't affect them directly. Humans can be selfish like that!
We just voted to end it by 2020 here in Florida. Trying to convince my parents to adopt one since I’m in college and already have 2 small dogs and they live on 7 acres
I have not met one greyhound trainer who would harm a dog or any animals for that matter unfortunately many of these animal rights hoo haas have too much time on their hands most unemployed i think 78 percent of them i have heard all the spare ti.e and drugs they have come up with all sorts of stories
I love my boy, Wilson and I have loved all of my other Greyhounds that have passed on in the last 18 years of owning, living and falling completely in love with these wonderful animals.
My 2 greyhounds,Jack and Harry, lived for 11 years. We adopted them from the race track when they retired at 4 years of age. We loved those two dogs and were so sad when each developed bone cancer.
Adopted 2 sisters greyhound from Florida. I am in Canada so I was worried about our tough winters but with a good warm coat, tuque (hat) and boots, both are fine with the Canadian cold. However, they would rather stay inside during our torrid summers as they do not tolerate the humid heat. Terribly affectionate and chatty. Very food driven , quite stubborn. They are like cats: they love sleeping all day. Do not like long walks. And my they do shed during the summer. I vacuum every second day! They are kind and calm....except when their meal takes too long to be served! I get an earful. Love them to bits.
LOL the lady @ 3:26. Her greyhounds are not struggling to make it home after 25 minutes because they are lazy but rather they are dragging their asses to make the walk last longer. Mine had all kinds of tricks to do this even after miles of hiking. She would stop and sniff EVERYTHING every few feet near the end or she would walk reeeeally slooooow and I'd have to keep stopping to let her catch up or she would pretend to not see or hear me and just keep walking. When I first got her I thought I was over doing it on the trails because she walked so much slower on the way back but nope, It was just her being crafty :)
theslimeylimey mine does the same. She acts all tired and “oh I can’t move” the second she knows we’re going back when a minute before that she was running and playing around xD
i was always in love with this breed as well as most all dogs, but i always shied away from a greyhound because i was under the idea that i would need loads of house space inside and out...but watching all these videos, i see that they really don't need a lot of inside house area ie: large rooms.. just a nice big couch or bed to call their own, and then a good walk or jog each day at the park.. now i am loving me some greyhound snuggles...
Toni Ramski They are the loveliest pooches, I promise! We have two ex-racers and they truly are lazy little buggers lol We got them their own couch which they roach on for most of the day, and take them on a big walk every night and they love life. They just want to be loved and cuddled and play with their toys, it's delightful :) Definitely look at Greyhounds when you're in a position to have a pooch - you won't regret it.
Toni Ramski Even if the biggest piece of furniture in your house is a computer chair, they'll figure out how to squeeze their entire body onto it somehow.
I used to work at a greyhound track (one of my first jobs) and working there always made me want to adopt a retired greyhound. I have a dog now, she's a doberman shepherd collie mix (a friends sister's dog had an accidental litter) but if I find myself in a place where I can take in a second dog it will definitely be a greyhound!
We adopted our first 22 years ago and hopefully will never have anything but greys if we can still find them in the US. They are the sweetest and such easy going dogs. They are gentle and very adaptable to different types of homes. They love to sleep 18-20 hrs a day but get their exercise in occasionally sprints and short walks.
My greyhound is the happiest laziest dog ever! He's 7 originally from Alabama and then Tucson AZ. Now we live in Portland and he absolutely loves the weather and snow! Best decision to adopt him. ❤️🐾
I work harder now, like really putting in hours, so that one day I can have a small bit of property to adopt a greyhound. Real story, I was afraid of dogs, terrified of larger ones, until I was fourteen and I met Ernie the big old greyhound. Never have I met a more sweet, goofy, just purely awesome animal, and i fell completely in love. I can now say with confidence that I am an avowed dog person, in the sense that I can't encounter any dog without doing the baby voice and giving them pats and belly rubs. That has had mixed results with police dogs, but overall, Ernie was an ambassador for dogs everywhere and should be praised.
I'm so close to getting one, very excited. At the minute there's 4 in the rescue were going through. Although 3 isn't suitable for us which I'm glad the rescue Is honest about, there's one beautiful girl Grace although someone is seeing her before us. If they don't reserve her then we're next to visit her, so will have to wait and see. If Grace gets taken then soon the rescue Is getting more in and they'll arrange a day for us to visit them. Have you got a grey yet?
I have rescued Irish Greyhound (Fergus). They make the best house Pet's of all the breeds, unless you want a gaurd Dog. They are very sociable, calm, gracious, un-demanding, lazy, loving, elegant and noble who don't bark very much, don't shed so much, don't have a Doggy smell at all. very clean and low maintenance.as they don't have any problem with their joints or heart problems. I recommend anyone to rescue this beautiful unique breed of Dog. get two, just as easy as one and they are company for each other if you have to be out all day. Low energy Dog's so if you don't like long walks the Greyhound is perfect. They don't like to go out in wet weather either, if they don't have to. They do need a very soft warm bed(sofa) to lie on as they sleep about 20 hours a day. GREYHOUNDS ARE GREAT!
I have had 2 boys in the past, both really laid back. Mark 3 is "Ludo", He is the totally against the norm, he is "shoutty" , very possessive, does not like to be alone (he has eaten the inside of the front door) and HATES small dogs who bark at him but although so different from the previous ones I love him to bits!!!
We had two grehounds when I was a child. I used to throw myself all over Ginger, the younger one (he was the same age as me). If I was in trouble or upset, he would sit or lay stoically and let me hug or lie on him. I still miss him, my prince!
I've actually always wanted a cheetah as a pet (seriously), but stumbled across gapnsw via an ad in the Australian and quickly realised that greyhounds are like the cheetahs of the doggy world and decided then and there I had to get one.
I’m definitely getting a grey after my two. It’s funny how everyone gets a puppy but when I got my Jack Russell mix puppy I’m just like I’m never going to get a puppy again. I just loooooove greys so much and they match my lifestyle and personality so perfectly.
I fell in love with my brother's Greyhound. None of them shed nor do they bark without good reason. This breed makes wonderful apartment dwellers! They ARE couch potatoes and are very loyal to their "owners." I would like to have at least 2 "hounds."
I just had a question with being off leash, dog beaches etc - i know there's various official recommendations when the dog has been through a GAP safety assessment, I live in an apartment and for exercise i was hoping to take my greyhound to the beach for a stretch of his legs - is it a gentle introduction, socialising matter or is it just not viable for a greyhound to be off leash a t a dog beach?
I have 3 of these beautiful creatures. I guess you could say I got carried away with greyhound rescue. Oh well. They bring me so much joy. I recommend one for everyone, no matter where you are in the world or in your life. I recommend two as well. Or three. Or...
The reason greyhounds are so incredible is because racers care more about health than beauty. My concern is that the Florida ban will eventually lead greyhounds to the show dog corruption that has destroyed so many wonderful breeds( Eng. Bulldog, Fr bulldog, pug, pekingese, German shepherd, Cav, golden retriever, Great Dane off the top of my head)
That's an interesting point, however, although many breeds suffer from bad breeding and show dog standards, there are many breeders who breed for health and temperament in pedigrees. All it takes is one look at a working line of German shepherds vs a show line to probe the difference. Greyhounds will continue as a healthy breed when tracks and racing shut down, theres such a loyal sighthound community who love the breed, they wouldn't let it die out or become deformed by bad breeding.
I don't know if the stereotype is the same outside of the US (I've personally never heard of them being supposedly angry dogs until now surprisingly) but a lot of people here assume that they're high-strung and overly skittish. I've seen some nervous Italian greyhounds, but I don't know how people see the standards as shaking balls of frayed nerves. Every one I've had the pleasure to meet has been either reserved but confident or very friendly and eager to meet people.
I totally agree with. you. They can come across as being a bit aloof but they absolutely love people and have NEVER known a GH to show aggression towards humans. My Irish GH is off lead all the time on walks and gets on with every single Dog he meets. If another Dog shows any aggression towards him he just ignores it and walks away. They are not built for Dog fights that's for sure. Flight is their only weapon against aggressive Dog's. No other Dog can outrun them. GO FERGUS!
I have had 2 female Greyhounds and a Lurcher boy who was 90% Greyhound and 10% Saluki. The gentlest dogs ever. At the moment I have a rescued English Setter girl (14), and a rescued Rottie (11) and would not wish them away for a moment, but when a vacancy occurs I will be looking for a Greyhound or, because they are like gold in France, a Galga (Spanish Greyhound, not quite the same).
Florida greyhounds are being taken all across the country for adoption... all are OK and none are in danger nor were they. The Greyhound racing community takes care of them. They, with adoption groups, and owners brought them across state lines this spring, in the height of COVID19 shutdowns, to their groups to find homes. Where were the "Protect Dogs activists?" No where! I knew they would vanish. That always happens. They claim cruelty, they claim they are the saviors and then they ride off into the sunset when they get their way. Those who work with greyhounds and love them are who help, but we didn't have $4 million for negative ads to be heard by Floridians. I used to believe activists, until I went about learning how greyhounds are raised and treated before they grace our couches. I have been adopting and volunteering since 1993 and can honestly tell you these people love their dogs and the voters of Florida allowed themselves to believe false propaganda that election. I am disgusted. Whatever country this video was made in, please go see for yourselves and meet the people of racing like I did. You may be pleasantly surprised.
Ruthie, our adopted racing Greyhound thru Team Greyhound Ohio was the best pet ever. Trained in a Prison Program, never got on furniture, didn’t bark, just loved everyone.
I grew up with a Lurcher (greyhound collie mix) but she looked like a pure greyhound. She was so lovely, except for her tendency to fall asleep behind closed doors so going from room to room you had to tenderly open the door to see if she was there lol.
Most greyhounds don't have health issues, they're relatively healthy dogs, but because of the race tracks some dogs have injuries that can result into future health problems. Our dog Rudy died from cancer due to his broken leg and the steroids and other drugs they gave them to preform well on the track. Not all information is accurate. Also, they are sensitive to anesthesia because a majority of them do not have enough fat. And skin tags, because of their thin skin. Also, this is a video from another country. They bred them to race and it's a horrific industry. They need to end greyhound racing. :(
@@robertcuttell928 I found there is 3 different types of greyhound coats the first type of coat is what most of us think of when we think of a greyhound where the coat looks like its been painted on the dog they hardly shed their fur, next type of coat is a bit more thicker those dogs do shed a little bit more and the last type is just has a bit more thicker, dense so those dogs can shed a bit more
I loved my retired racing greyhound. He was sweet and affectionate with my young children and relatively healthy. There are issues you need to be aware of though. Most greyhounds, are not safe around cats. My Murphy nearly caught a couple of stray ones in the backyard and I'm sure he would have killed them if he had. Greyhounds are also tricky when it comes to anesthesia due to having so little body fat to metabolize it. You need to take them to a vet that has experience with the breed. All in all, though, this video does a great job of pointing out what a great breed they are. I would have another one without hesitation.
I see a lot of same sex male couples that have Greyhounds. I don't know why. My Grey was fostered by a very nice gay couple. We joke that Father's day is a busy day for him, (he always sends them a card)
Interesting that Whippets have exactly the same behaviour than their "bigger" ones. I have a whippet and would like to have in Brazil those greyhounds.
Had a few sight hounds. I would recommend a lurcher. I Have settled on Bedlington terrier x whippet as greyhounds are hard to train with such things as recall and calling them off a chase. But that's just me and still love sight hounds in general :)
Greyhounds are wonderful, but don't forget: Many of these dogs come to you after hard lives full of abuse and do not know how to act at all like normal dogs. I had one as a child, and whilst my family loved him with all of out hearts, he was a challenge. He hated strangers, especially strange dogs, he was paranoid about everything, extremely anxious and volatile when you'd attempt to trim his nails, bath him or even just put him in a jacket. We got him all the training we could afford, and it wasn't enough. He was a scared broken pup. He lived a wonderful life in the home with us, but we had to severely limit how many guests we had, he hated to be around other dogs, and walking him was always a struggle especially for a kid. He was just scared and broken and worried all the time he wasn't just home with the family. So be warned. Whilst wonderful, these dogs might just break your heart and change your whole life. They're not normal dogs. They didn't live normal lives. It's easier now with the internet and all the support there is available, but just be careful.
That's a shame as well as being very unusual for your GH to be so nervous of everything. They are brought up with many Dog's from the day they are born in the racetrack kennels so are used to being sociable if well treated. I know thousands are very badly treated but once they are re-homed into a family then they should adapt quickly to living in a home with people who give them all the affection they so love and deserve. They are very sensitive Dog's however, and they need to be treated very gently, both physically and emotionally. Apart from that, they make the best Pet's and are the most gentle of Breed's. Highly recommend to anyone to adopt one of these amazing Hounds.
Masterkavi so happy that your family didn’t give up on him!! I’ve know some that have adopted a grey, and when the poor dog wouldn’t adjust to its new surroundings ‘immediately’, they’d bring it back. 😪 not having the patience to help him adjust.
Sadly any dog which has suffered abuse is probably going to be a challenge, we had one like that but gradually love and kindness did work. When we first had her I made a bed for her which was about 2 ft high, and she was so nervous about everything she didn't go on the bed, she went straight under it and stayed there. When we got her right she only had a few good years and died of cancer at 8, and even now I still get choked up thinking about her, they can really break your heart. Whatever happened to her before at least she did have a few short happy years with us.
I suspect your childhood grey hadn't gone through the intensive training that adopted greys go through today. These kinds of programs are very common now because of the state these dogs are kept in as racers. A friend of mine works at an adoption center in the USA and they've only ever had a small handful of dogs returned for behavioral reasons. The extensive training they go through basically turns the dogs into perfect pets.
After they finish racing, they retire, go to adoption groups and find their forever homes or they stay with their owners as pets. You really should've finished what you wrote. I had to do it for you.
I have a Grey x bull x German Shepard. She's beautiful! She's all black with a white diamond shape on her chest. We adopted her@ 12months, she had been lamping. She's now 3yo & is a Great dog, loyal, Intelligent, good temperament etc.. One thing though is mine Hates cat's! She also doesn't like deer, stags, foxes, rabbits etc.. I think this is in her blood though because she's a sighthound &because she hunted before we adopted her. Also I have never heard her bark Ever!! Anyone thinking of getting a dog please consider this breed they are truly amazing & are fab companion's & don't need that much space at all really once their getting walked.
Why not one of each? Worked beautifully in our household for eight years (until the Shepherd galumphed off to the rainbow bridge). They were best buds - but even German engineering couldn't keep up with brute speed.
Mine only barked when she was feeling playful, she’d spin around, do the play bow and bark once. Just let them in the yard to have a run around a burn off some energy, they are so fun to watch run even if it’s short lived, they tire themselves out quick lol.
When Florida banned greyhound racing, my wife and I started looking at adopting a retired racer. There was a local organization here in northern Indiana that took in those dogs and adopted them out. They have big hearts, both literally and figuratively.
I was thinking about getting a dog, and i saw the title "The Perfect Pet". Under that i saw "Recommended for you".
Thanks RUclips
We have adopted our third Greyhound after losing two before due to cancer. They are wonderful pets. There are thousands out there waiting to be adopted!
Be warned: you think you're adopting a dog, and then you find out that in fact, you've joined a cult...
Oh, and you'd better be prepared to cuddle.
drhandle XD
drhandle yup indeed ;D my family is ready to pick up our new adopted greyhound this Saturday, cannot wait!
I consider them to be the "Lays Potato Chip" of the dog world. "You can't just have one!"
I have 6 right now and I have had as many as 8 at one time!
Yup, I'm nuts!
NOT THE CUDDLES THEY STEAL MY HEART!
Yes it’s totally joining a cult. I’m never having another type of dog ever again. Greyhounds furever
Lyle is that like a greyhound thing?? My greyhound barks when she wants to be let in!😂💕
So does mine I guess it is for some greyhounds but I know some people who’ve had theirs for years and have only heard them bark about four times
We owned 2 greyhounds, we loved them. Everyone that met them described them as sweet. Both of them have passed now, but the love and memories of the 2 of them will never die.
when you adopt a greyhound its like adopting another child i love my greyhound

I have owned my beautiful Greyhound Santee for 11 years and can say this is one of best dogs that i have ever owned.
She travels with me everywhere and travels easely. She just loves people and especially my grand kids. I would recommend this breed highly.
Diane Duncan
My Cecil is just the same. Adorable and so loving.
I miss Lucy and Hollies my beautiful greys, they crossed the Bridge together a year ago. ❤️ They lived to be 13.
love this video...this needs to be put on national tv as a commercial or better still as a promo on the morning shows....I know this would be very hard to do but I am hopeful to see this shown to a greater audience through national tv....
flipau11 ikr this video inspired me truly and in fact I'm getting a greyhound this Saturday ;D
I think I just found my future dog

I’ve had 2. Can’t wait to get my third soon💖💖💖
I’m a dog groomer and seen lots of dogs. No dog compairs to a greyhound

I have two and I love them
Definitely! I’ve wanted one for YEARS...one day, one day...
I have a greyhound and they are absolutely gorgeous pets
Irk I have 2 and I love them so very much

When I adopted a retired racer I named him Presley (as in "You ain't nothing but a hound dog.")
Greyhounds are such beautiful dogs inside and out . Love them!
Just got a rescue greyhound collie cross (Lurcher). Such sweet natured dog and SO affectionate.
That's an AMAZING sounding cross - Two of my favorite breeds :)
Again eventually after a while this really does get better to the point you could probably stroke them while asleep but remember the saying..."let sleeping dogs lie"
Robbie Scrivener they’re great at counter surfing! Lol
Robbie,
Most of what you have posted is total nonsense!
Excellent point - that was going through mind, too, while I was watching the video.
I agree completely. The fortunate ones get a family but there are many more that never get that opportunity.
I have not met one greyhound trainer who would harm a dog or any animals for that matter unfortunately many of these animal rights hoo haas have too much time on their hands most unemployed i think 78 percent of them i have heard all the spare ti.e and drugs they have come up with all sorts of stories
I looooove greyhounds!!!
and I have one!♥♡
Mine is working out so well, a loving and loved family member
We have Italian Greyhound's, and love the full size Greys...Best breed ever.
Oh, I’d lobe to have an iggy, Brian. Have you had a greyhound before? I’m curious as to whether the personalities are similar. 🤩🐶🤩
Connection to your Dog is the MOST important thing that can happen! Total zone of understanding. I've been there for over 30 years
LOL the lady @ 3:26.
They just want to be loved and cuddled and play with their toys, it's delightful :)
Definitely look at Greyhounds when you're in a position to have a pooch - you won't regret it.
Toni Ramski Even if the biggest piece of furniture in your house is a computer chair, they'll figure out how to squeeze their entire body onto it somehow.
Gorgeous video. Watched again almost a year later 😊
I love my mixed greyhound. So gentle.
We’ve adopted two over the years...total loves!! Grey’s are GREYT!! 💛👍🏼😃
We adopted our first 22 years ago and hopefully will never have anything but greys if we can still find them in the US. They are the sweetest and such easy going dogs. They are gentle and very adaptable to different types of homes. They love to sleep 18-20 hrs a day but get their exercise in occasionally sprints and short walks.
wonderful video for wonderful pet!! greyhound are gentle and very affectionate the best pet in the world
Oh my goodness, such beautiful dogs! I can't wait until I have my own place and can adopt one!
I've had a greyhound for a while now. They are great pets but can be very mischievous. They love to cuddle!
My greyhound is the happiest laziest dog ever! He's 7 originally from Alabama and then Tucson AZ. Now we live in Portland and he absolutely loves the weather and snow! Best decision to adopt him. ❤️🐾
I’ve watched several videos on greyhounds and I’ve decided to get one! Thanks for this video.
Am in love
❤ very nice ❤
wonderful video, makes me want a greyhound even more!
Aaah just put in my application, can't wait to get one !
I got one 7 months ago and she is perfect. I love her and now I want another.
Here in the US, greyhounds aren't required to be muzzled in public at all, it's at the discretion of the owner.
Or three. Or...
I 've had 4 rescue greyhounds from Ireland!
Greyhounds are literally the best possible dogs.
I did not know how addictive this breed is until I got one 💖... he is my darling 😘..
And in the end health IS beauty.
I feel like people get that from whippets and Italians who aren't the and at all as a greyhound
+mywingsareyours same at all I mean lol k autocorrect
I totally agree with. you. They can come across as being a bit aloof but they absolutely love people and have NEVER known a GH to show aggression towards humans. My Irish GH is off lead all the time on walks and gets on with every single Dog he meets. If another Dog shows any aggression towards him he just ignores it and walks away. They are not built for Dog fights that's for sure. Flight is their only weapon against aggressive Dog's. No other Dog can outrun them. GO FERGUS!
Lovely dogs... ❤️
and they are the only large breed dogs that live longer than 10 years.
They are beautiful dogs. Im onto my 5th one.
I ❤❤❤GREYHOUNDS!
PLEASE HELP FLORIDA RESCUES AND ADOPT AND/OR FOSTER!!!
Chan D can I adopt if I am out of state ??
We have. Twice!
She was so lovely, except for her tendency to fall asleep behind closed doors so going from room to room you had to tenderly open the door to see if she was there lol.
that's why vets hate greyhounds absolutely no health problems.
Actually greys have multiple health issues, mainly to do with their hip dysplacia
Please dont pet me greyhounds are the only big dogs without many hip issues or common hip dysplacia
One of our greyhounds suffered from a stomach torsion. It cost thousands and was horrid.
They're prone to some, but the list isn't too long.
They don't shed. My vacuum would beg to differ. They are the best though.
Brush them, wash them, they still shed, but, yes, they are the best!
Read 'Arrian on Coursing'. He lived in the second century AD. He had a greyhound.
The two guys seemed like such a lovely couple
I see a lot of same sex male couples that have Greyhounds. I don't know why. My Grey was fostered by a very nice gay couple. We joke that Father's day is a busy day for him, (he always sends them a card)
@@michaeljulian4997 You think they were talking about the owners? lol
@Easy Peasy This explains some of your other moronic posts!
I was staring at the thumbnail going, "Is that Lisa from Bondi Vet?" yep, it is!
Interesting that Whippets have exactly the same behaviour than their "bigger" ones. I have a whippet and would like to have in Brazil those greyhounds.
They don’t bark.
They don’t shed.
They don’t smell.
So basically, a big and lean Boston Terrier. I’m sold.
"Most dogs need 30 to 40 mins exercise" Please tell my 2 Staffies this as they are out for over 4 hours EVERY day!!
Had a few sight hounds. I would recommend a lurcher. I Have settled on Bedlington terrier x whippet as greyhounds are hard to train with such things as recall and calling them off a chase. But that's just me and still love sight hounds in general :)
Just realised the name of this channel. Never gonna win this argument lol
Omg they get along with chickens at 1:51 that a plus. Since I'm looking for a dog to protect my girls (hens) from stray cat.
They will not protect them probably. They’re lazy and scaredy-cats... they always run from confrontation!
They aren’t protective, but some of them will kill cats.
I have a Kelpie and she is always with me. I’ve been wondering about having a friend for her. What would a grey hound be like ?
These different coloured collars are interesting should be brought in in the UK.
Greyhounds are wonderful, but don't forget:
Many of these dogs come to you after hard lives full of abuse and do not know how to act at all like normal dogs.
Masterkavi I think your dog was probably born in harsh conditions. The mother was fed garbage. Don't blame the dog. Don't blame the dog.
My greyhound always follows me around waiting for treats
After a greyhound has Finished racing...... "after the dog stops making money" .......... I love my baby, there the best dogs. Adopt one :)
After they finish racing, they retire, go to adoption groups and find their forever homes or they stay with their owners as pets. You really should've finished what you wrote. I had to do it for you.
@@momtoty yes and there are many charities out there too. We have two hounds now, one from Greys as Pets Qld and one from another charity.
Dr lisa is an expert about dog. I've watch her on tv since 2012
I have a Grey x bull x German Shepard.
I am fostering a greyhound this Saturday
That must have been fun - How did it go?
I have about 30 years dogs. Now have for 9 year my first Galgo...now?? Always a Galgo in the house for sure!!
I’m a Greyhound convert. I have a cross that’s beautiful
Do someone know where greyhound breeding whith fci is?'cause i want to buy a puppy in the futher.
😍🤗😘 wonderful dogs. I have a good Time with my Whippet.
I've 2 greyhs that come from Ireland, are wonderful dogs, and I'm so happy of my choice
Although i prefer German Shepherds, Greyhounds just gives me the feeling of being near royalty.
Cookie Crusher they’re basically royalty, they just look so regal and magestic
Why not one of each? Worked beautifully in our household for eight years (until the Shepherd galumphed off to the rainbow bridge). They were best buds - but even German engineering couldn't keep up with brute speed.
sorry its not a cult..They are just incredible animals and 'ones a greyhound always a greyhound'. From a proud Galgo owner. ;-)
Mine only barked when she was feeling playful, she’d spin around, do the play bow and bark once. Just let them in the yard to have a run around a burn off some energy, they are so fun to watch run even if it’s short lived, they tire themselves out quick lol.
Is there a Green Collar programme in New Zealand?
