this video is crap. Wolves don't attack people, but even if they did, the fetal position would literally be the worst thing you can do. The best chance you'd got is to fight back and stand your ground. In the wild, wolves usually kill prey that runs from them, they can become unsure if the prey stands its ground.

For anyone confused, by telling to act submissive, they mean that you shouldn't try to run or make eye contact. And assertion of dominance means to act powerful like there're the prey. it basically means that you should stand your ground (but not make eye contact) and not try to flee as they'll catch up with you anyway..

I've had several encounters with wolves, while being alone in the woods, some of them very close. Most of the time yelling at the top of my lungs and making threatening gestures with a stick were enough to scare them off. I recommend having a walking stick at all times in the woods. The last time I came across a small pack of wolves while waiting for the tide to change. One of the wolves became curious and kept approaching me. The rest of the pack wandered off. I tried yelling, making threatening gestures, throwing rocks, but that wolf persisted for hours, so I lit a fire and kept it going until the tide came up and I could paddle out of there. In general I feel pretty safe in the woods, but, needless to say, I would not feel safe if I was injured, as that would be asking for trouble from wolves.

if he hadn't attacked those wolves, they would have helped him. it happens to me quite alot since i live near a wolf den. they come towards me when i howl, it is their calling.
Even though they are hungry, if you show a sign of peace, like yawning or tilting your head to one side, they would begin to treat you like one of their pack. It's the instinct that controls only 30% of what wolves do, the last 70% is controlled by their mind. That is why most wolves run when they spot something more dangerous than them (like a human with a gun)

I almost got killed by a wolf 😳. I did what I would do if I encountering a snake, I looked at the ground, and back away slowly. I fell over and it rushed at me, and I slapped its snout, and then I climbed onto its back because it was surprised, and smashed its snout into the ground so it didn’t bite me. I feel sorry for hurting me, but then I stupidly ran. Hey, I was only 11! It broke my arm and there was blood everywhere, then I managed to climb a tree. I then almost died from hypothermia, but my family found me, and took me to the hospital........ it was terrifying....

Depends on the area and circumstances but most certainly in an encounter they will run away
If you do 4 you are dead. If you are already surrounded by a pack it is almost decided you are prey. In this case there is not an alpha woolf that's gonna walk slowly to you.
If your first attempt to scary them away fails, they will attack you one by one from different directions with the technique bite&run till one jumps on you or you fall from fear/pain and bite your neck.
If you try to climb a tree, I suggest to climb fast, a wolf can jump high and more if helped by the own tree as support.
    Those are my thougths

Wolves don't attack humans, unless they have cubs with them, but even then, wolf-attacks on humans are rare. In fact, studies have shown that wolves avoid human presence near them. No need to scare people for no reason. That leads to hunting them and putting in danger both the species and its contribution to the eco-system.

Anyone that says don't make eye contact is full of shit and has no experience with wild animals. It's what is in your look that they see. If there is no fear they see that, but if there is fear they see that too. I've encountered many wild animals and have never been attacked. I'm also 84 percent unable to register fear. It's a brain malfunction. Has served me well once I understood it. Before that it got me into a lot of trouble. With the video on RUclips where a road rage incident turned out badly for a girl running from a car. You run you die when dealing with a preditor.

Right, because you will DEFINITELY need a hammer in the woods. Not a knife or a small, handy hatchet (which, you know, is a hammer if you reverse it), no. BRING A HAMMER. And a lawn-mower. It will be loud and scare the wolf. In fact, if you bring a hammer and a lawn-mower to a picnic in the woods, the chances are, even people will give you a wide berth. A full carrier group of warships might be even handier in such a situation, provided you're somewhat close to a large body of water, of course. You get the general idea, just use whatever's laying around in your Dad's garage.

I survived five attacking wolves. All night long. Started with 1 in the bush on my left, 2 in the bush on my right, 1 on the trail in front of me, 1 loping up the trail behind me. All huge. Northern Canada huge. Long story short: I punched and kicked snouts, legs...their bodies. They backed off, but returned maybe 15 minutes later...we went through the same routine all night. They left, came back again. I had been looking/worried for a friend who had gone into the woods to sleep alone. I figured if they were busy with me, then they didn't have time to attack him. And he was sleeping somewhere wrapped up like a breakfast burrito and would have had no chance at all. Dating is worse. Wolves have no hidden agenda. I was 17.

@@techaddicted2034 yeah still not buying it. There's conveniently no reliable information about this anywhere, and the explanations they give us sounds super lame. This story contradicts basic wolf and animal etology as well as common sense. Honestly it was most likely made up as anti-wolf propaganda, stuff like that was pretty common last century. Then the internet found the story and started spreading it.

Climbing a tree is possibly the worst thing you could do in that situation. Wolves don't give up easy so they'll stay until you have to come down. In the winter they try to chase you up a tree so then you freeze and fall off.

not mentioned in the movie, but something that could be decisive. Try to identify the alfa male and when you attack, attack him. if he backs down or is fearful, the whole pack will be shaken.

There is a Liam Neeson movie, I think it is called *THE GRAY,* that you may want to watch. Talk about a wolf pack hunting you down. Damn. Wouldn't want to be the pack's target.

My pleasure. I feel like Roger Ebert now! Liam's movies are usually pretty entertaining.

I just encountered 2 wolfs a short time ago, it was lucky that i was in the car at that time. They didnt look scared much, i dont want to imagine meeting them when going for a hike 😅
I used to go in the forest frequently for hiking in the past, even at night because it was very relaxing. But in the last 2-3 years wolf and bear started to show up here, now i dont dare to go anywere anymore, especcially at night. 😅🙈

Well, if you whip out your tool and it's big enough, I'm sure the wolf will bow its head and leave in shame. If it's not big enough though, it might be the first thing bitten...
