Elvis and i were friends for 10 yrs. up until his death. Sexiest man god ever created. We both needed a friend and we were that for each other he asked nothing of me and i asked nothing of him. How we met was a long story but i will not explain because people judged and commented nasty hurtful things that hurt me deeply. So i will not post anything about our friendship ever again, We had a short conversation a few days before his death we were both very emotional. i will love and miss my friend forever. i walk past Graceland everyday sometimes i go in and walk around the grounds and talk to my friend at his final resting place. they know me there lol. love to you from the one and only Memphis Tn. I've watched everything I can on Elvis and I've never seen this!
he really does have the most beautiful smile I've ever seen. yeah, people said he was just breathtakingly beautiful in person, those blue eyes...those cheekbones, even his voice, anyone everyone who's met him men women have said they were so taken aback when meeting him in person. Plus, he's a tall dude too.
There's a famous live show Elvis did at the International Hotel in Las Vegas in 1969 where Elvis was performing the song "Are you lonesome tonight?" And he saw a man upfront remove his toupee so Elvis changed the lyrics in the song from, "Do you gaze at your front door and wish I was there" TO "Do you gaze at your bald head and wish you had hair" Then Whitney Houston's mom, Cissy Houston, who was a backup singer for Elvis said, swing it baby" so the bald-headed guy stood up and started swaying back and forth with the toupee haha. The video is hysterical.

I grew up on Elvis. My dad and uncle were huge fans. They had every song he ever made. I am a fan too. A few years back I took my dad to Graceland. I got the VIP package. We were taken by a van straight to the front door of Graceland with a tour guide (there was nothing they could tell us we didn't know) but we were aloud to roam by ourselves. We were able to have time at his grave which his father, mother, grandmother and his twin brother are laid to rest too. My stepmother took a picture of me and my dad with a very serious look on our faces.
The ride up to Graceland was very surreal and emotional. They play his song Welcome To My World as you're going through the gates and it's a feeling that I can't put into words.
We toured the Lisa Marie (RIP Lisa, they're reunited again) private plane, which is just as he left it. We also went to Sun Studios and I stood in the exact spot and with the microphone he used to record It's Alright. Johnny Cash Jerry Lewis Buddy Holly and Elvis had been photographed there playing around and that picture hangs in there today. We were able to do and see so much. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
He was so funny in many of his movies. Even if scripts were not so great, he always did great.
My music flavor has always been jazz, funk ,old school r&b and rap and i barely listen any new music ever and now i am 44. But i loooove Elvis, especially his 68-70’s era. His look, swag, talk, voice , songs and all is so amazing . I love his music and i remember those were clips from Vegas ❤document of their making the show , i got it in 80’s . Had to order it far away cause i lived in Finland. He was gorgeous and yes his smile was like angel , he would sell anythin to me cause he got that face and all. What a man and talent. Sad story and so beautiful same time was his life. Elvis forever❤ I love your reactions.

That part of the video where Elvis leaned down and the guy almost kissed him was during Love Me Tender live 1970. If you react to that when you will see something you've never seen before and that you would never ever in a million years see in this day and age. He kissed almost every woman on the front row and then jumped off the stage and went out into the crowd and kissed another 20 more women. Like I said today you would never see anything like that be able to happen. And you never saw it back then but it's what Elvis was also famous for during his concerts. Love your reactions. Talking about style, he was supposed to be inducted into the fashion Icon hall of fame, I think it is Paris. His wife said even his PJ's were silk with his name or initials on them. He was so poor he bought a lot of clothes when he got famous. He set the styles in the 50's I was a teenager and all the guys wore turned up collars and slick black hair. Do you know his using a guitar, resurrected the guitar industry because only country guys used them before he made cool. Hope you react to "Elvis, 200 Cadillacs". If you didn't like his music then his voice would convince you, if you didn't like his dances then his energy would move you. If you didn't like his image then his humour would sway you. I absolutely love your sense of humor. Especially with Elvis. You just get it at the same time you laugh or admire him. Andy Kaufman did such a funny right on imitation of Elvis that Elvis once said he was his best impersonator. How sad they both died so young. Both were great talents. It's funny you say that his smile could sell you a card 20 minutes and the reality is he gave away around 200 high-dollar Cadillacs over the years. In some cases to people that he didn't even know, there was one case where he saw this black woman and her daughter walking down the sidewalk and they were looking in the window of a car dealership just kind of amazed at the gleaming models on the showroom floor. But they were on the way to catch a bus. And he was driving by when he stopped and like turned around drove into that lot and he had bought Cadillacs from this guy before so they knew each other. He walked in there and just said hey I want to buy a powder blue Cadillac the one right there it was the one that they've been looking at through the window. And he paid cash and the transaction was over quickly and he drove it out and he told them that it was theirs. And she was blown away. She had never owned a car before. It's just shit like that that blows me away.

Damn, I realized this reaction is a month old but I really hope you somehow see this comment. I was thinking about what you said at the end of Elvis funny moments and there are several songs of his live performances that you haven't done that I would love to see you do, but here's what popped into my head. Have you seen this? It's about a 5-minute clip during a break in rehearsal where Elvis is just hanging with the Sweet Inspirations, his female backing group, and it's from 1970 and not only is the interaction just so chill and laid back but also funny. It's a fantastic glimpse it the style of the 70s, and keep in mind these women are not dressed up for the show, this is just showing up for practice.
And there's something about it that is just incredibly heartwarming and I know you would really love it. You can either just watch it or you can take it on faith, I do comment on your channel a fair amount and I think we've had some good interactions, so you could just react to it. But if nothing else please please please just watch this. I know you will love it and it's yet another huge insight into not only Elvis but just his rapport with the band and the people that he performed with day in and day out. Through thick and thin.
These are the same women he stuck up for at the Houston Astrodome which I think you covered in Elvis and the black community part 1. Where they were saying leave the black girls at home and he got angry and was willing to just throw this whole huge Astrodome gig opportunity away if they wouldn't let them come with him. And they capitulated. He gave them an ultimatum and they capitulated. So it's wonderful to see them just kind of casually talking about stuff.

@@naomiwarner7117 yes, you are absolutely right, I meant to point that out but yeah he just takes a knee and kneels down and just hangs out and I just love how they end up all laughing together. It's just so casual. Because when they're actually rehearsing a particular song, and Elvis did all his own arrangement. I don't think people realize that about him. He was very good at it. But he's pretty demanding so when they work they worked hard. But then they would take these breaks and they would just joke around and catch up on the gossip and he just went out of his way to make everybody feel at home, no matter who you were. And so that's what I love about that short clip of him with the sweet inspirations. Plus I love seeing that 1970s fashion. The fro's and just the clothing and all that.

But just staying up really late with whoever from the band felt like hanging with him and they would sing gospel while he played the piano until the wee hours. Man that would have been so awesome to have been a part of. And I say that as a musician myself. I would have loved it.

I'm so glad you did that. And being a musician and played in bands my whole life, for some reason those scenes in rehearsal or band practice just ring so true. Everything about that is true I mean most of the time you're really trying hard and seriously working on things and arranging things and you keep repeating things and people might suggest different things but on the other hand, shit happens. You get shocked, a chair breaks, all kinds of stuff and if you guys can't laugh your asses off once in awhile, then you might as well not be in a band together basically. And he was just so good at that, I mean given that he's a super celebrity and everything and everyone is probably feeling privileged to be in that band, but the reality is they goofed around and had fun also. Did you see how much he was cracking them up with some of that stuff where he was doing the falsetto which is some old song that apparently was funny, but it's before my time so I didn't recognize it but they all just started cracking up.
@Steve Dahlberg The song is "Cryin' Time"- old country song. Dean Martin actually did a really good cover version of it in my opinion.
Also: Really interesting info & insight into the technical equipment side of things that could go wrong that musicians and vocalists had- and still have to- deal with today.

@@sammy_the_uncool2702 Oh man, I will definitely check that out. I know that I haven't heard it. It just sounded so cool to me.
Oh yeah, I remember dealing with some of that shock stuff in the 90s even. There was one smaller place we would play about once in a while, and they kept upgrading the stuff and they built the stage better and they put in a whole bunch of new circuits and things were getting better.
There was one time after the most recent circuit redesign I did all the tests first and I set the polarity like I do because my vintage Fender amps were plugged into a different side of the stage than the PA system for the vocals. And everything seemed good.
And then we'd get in the middle of a song and everything was rolling along okay and this wasn't that kind of sudden shock that you normally get like you saw in that Elvis video. It's like I could feel this kind of charge just building up with a whole lot of depth to it and then it would just come rolling in and it would culminate in a really violent shock, BOOM. And then it would go away.
So normally in a voltage differential between two circuits, it either happens or it doesn't. And then you have to figure it out. But this was intermittent and anyone knows from your mechanic to your technology guy, troubleshooting something intermittent is a pain in the ass. But it was really messing with me! It hurt, and then I started to be afraid that it would happen at any given time and I couldn't concentrate as well on playing my guitar and singing and the whole band you know we're all tied together and everything.
You know what it was in the end? The electrician had added and divided out circuits, but somehow he had left that side of the stage where I was plugging into on the same damn circuit that their huge walk-in freezer was on in the back of the place!
Because this place doubled with serving food but it was a music venue and a bar and all that as well. And so what would happen is that thing would kick on every now and then, that huge industrial compressor would come on and start ramping up the charge and then when it finally went online and started running all the stuff to pump out freezing air, that wave of current would just roll through the line and then BAM out it came through my mic and into my lips and it would actually have a enough of a force that would kind of push my head back a few inches. Not to mention that it hurt like a mf and it basically surprised me every time.
So that's what we figured out and they did finally fix it. And that's through the 90s. Can you imagine in the late 60s and into 1970? Wow.

I think if Elvis Presley didn’t have that manager that he had. He would still be alive today he would be 88 years old. That manager just worked him to the core and ripped him off.

Only part way through it but yeah man it's not as much of an issue today but it's still kind of is if you play it a really crappy bar or something with bad electrical. But back then all this old equipment? If you had the PA that the microphones were in on one circuit and then you had amps and your electric guitar on another one, you can easily get a ground Loop where they are at different voltages, and all the amps had different polarity settings like you could flick it to positive or negative or neutral and so those three choices are available for everybody so it's a very complex environment and back then it was quite easy to get shocked. Even in my stent playing bands the 80s through about 5 years ago I've been in a couple places and I've gotten shocked really bad. One time there was a blue spark that jump between the microphone and my lips and my lips were bruised for like 4 days. It's a real thing man. And it was worse back then.
And the yodeling! I saw this I don't know maybe 6 months ago for the first time and when I heard him doing that I was blown away. I'm actually a big fan of people that can yodel well for example Elton Britt Cannonball yodel from the 1930s bro, I even know about that and look it up on youtube, it will blow your mind, especially how long he holds it at the end and keeps going higher and higher. But anyway Elvis was doing that perfectly! I had no idea. And I've looked and looked and looked and I can't find any song or performance where he really does that. It just popped out in this rehearsal. I would give anything to hear him do a lot more of that, that is really difficult and he made it look effortless. It just shows you that he had so many dimensions to his character that we normally didn't get a chance to see.
He probably learned how to yodel when he was stationed in Germany in the Army.
