I’m just finished watching and I can’t stop the tears, but they’re good tears. I was in Ft. Myers and Sanibel, Captiva, Cape Coral, and Cayo Costa during the first two weeks of September celebrating my 50th birthday with a lifelong dream of trip. On my way back to Texas, I was scheduled to turn north at New Orleans and head up to Shreveport and then on to the Dallas area where I live when I got the call from my family that no one ever wants to get. My beloved beautiful Aunt was in ICU and the Drs said that the family needed to come say our goodbyes. So instead of turning, I continued west on IH-10 through Baton Rouge and Lafayette and Houston to where my family lives in Southeast Texas. I spent the last week and a half of my Aunt’s life sitting by her bedside and holding her hand, praying over her, and doing my best to keep her as comfortable as possible. Two days after her funeral, I watched the devastation of the area that I had absolutely fallen in love with and my broken heart ached for SWFL even as my grief for my beautiful aunt, who helped raise me and was my Mama’s big sister and her very best friend, had left me shattered. It’s so poignant that you and the family you met talked about struggling through something and still caring and reaching out to help and understanding for others around you who are struggling through something so incredibly difficult. There were times during the first few weeks of October that I didn’t know if my tears were for my Aunt or for the people of SWFL land the beautiful places that I didn’t know when or if I might ever see them again. I have really struggled with the Holidays this year, as have my sister and my mother and my cousins. This year was the first time in my entire life of 50 years that I didn’t have Thanksgiving and now Christmas with my Aunt. My family couldn’t even bring ourselves to celebrate Thanksgiving. We ate BBQ instead and played board games and tried not to be too sad. I don’t have a lot of money and I can’t be there to help, but I have tried to do whatever I can to just be supportive and encouraging and find other ways to help within my capacity. It doesn’t matter that I’m still struggling with my own problems and my own grief, I still care about others and what they are going through. That’s what it means to be human and look for ways to connect and support each other. No one person’s problems are any less important than someone else’s, even when it might make us feel like we have no right to complain in light of what someone else is going through. Thank you for the reminder that we have to hold fast to those connections and accept their comfort even when we are feeling called to help them and comfort them. Even so, seeing the connection between you and the grateful family did my heart good during this hard chapter of my life. For that, I thank you as well. Keep doing all that you have been able to do even while you are struggling through the aftermath of the hurricane and the difficult situation of getting your van home repaired at the same time. You guys are awesome! 🥰

Yay...you featured the poinsettia tree! This video hit so close to home!! I lost my home in the CZU lightening Complex fire in the Santa Cruz Mtns in Cali. So many people helped us out after losing everything and then we bought a home recently in CC, literally 5 days before Ian hit and it was slightly impacted, but all is okay. I prayed so hard.....that was all I could do, I barely had time to get my shutters on before the storm hit....God is Good and he protected our home!!! Paying it forward!!!!

Oh my stars ✨ my heart is overflowing! ✨💚✨ and tears just flowing outta my eyes. It’s beautiful to witness. Having lived on the Texas coast a lot of my life, I’ve seen the damage a hurricane can do. My family , who still resides there, was impacted in the last few hurricanes that went through there. Katrina, Rita (?) Ike, Harvey, and I worked for a government agency that responded to them. Before, during & after. If you’ve never witnessed it, it’s truly a miracle to see how humans come together. Of course there are some shady characters too. ( my sis got swindled , took 2 years to get back in her home. My brother lost his entire home from water damage. They were able to remodel. And Having asthma myself, I had to leave the area after Harvey, the molds & chemicals in the water & air were so polluted that i actually stopped breathing. I’m so glad you got out of there for a while to take care of yourself. ✨🧡✨sending lotsa love your way & to all those that are still trying to get back to “ normal”. Y’all are amazing.

We often see the results of natural disasters on the news and then after a week or two, no more updates and we kind of forget that people are still greatly affected. Life is not always fair across the board, and the fact is that some people have more money, talent and/or other resources like family or friends for support in times of troubles. It is kind of you all to explain about the help to Drew's parents and the funds so that those who get worked up about those things have understanding, and hopefully feel better. Life is not always fair across the board, and the fact is that some people have more money, talent and/or other resources like family or friends for support in times of troubles.
