Elemental materia has 2 uses FYI. Offense and defense..link it in weapon slot for added element to you weapon (fire ice thunder wind)/link it on an armor slot to half element damage from that peticular element that it's linked with
Don't know how relevant it is on this one just yet, but back in the day....Wind based Summon Materia + Elemental was basically a permanent damage boost. I can't remember the exact number, but I think only like 3% of the enemies in the game were resistant to Wind. First thing I did in this one was equip it to Wind instinctually, but I didn't like the way it looked, so I went Fashion Souls and slapped Fire on it. So glad they kept the spirit of Materia combinations alive. I remember the old Double Cast + Fire + MP Absorb + Boost trick. I used to do that with Meteor. The old Hades Summon Materia + Added Effect. There were so many more.

@@tombstonepizza2299 as expected considering it's found in shinra hq in classic and probably only post game enemies would give some spells for the remake
AP boost is a must have. If you don't have it grinding certain materia takes forever. Also using magnify can give you an instant limit break in some fights with a fairly big group of enemies. Makes for some really quick fights and very minimal resources lost
Something I haven't seen anyone mention with the magnify materia and it's linked materia. The ara and aga spells have splash radius aga having a larger radius of course. So anything close to the target also takes a good chunk. This also applies to the branch off from magnify. So if there were 4 monsters clumped together and you cast Firaga, The initial burst hits hardest on main target but also does splash damage, magnify kicks in and it branches out to all nearby targets. The best part is you now have 3 Firaga stacked on each other all throwing out splash damage as well. I didn't realize it at first but noticed they always took more damage the closer they were clumped. Sure enough you can see all the crazy numbers go out.
Here's another tip for you, link that same spell in another slot with MP Absorb and watch your MP get filled back. I use Aerith to instant clear the chapter levels she's in with this setup without having to worry about MP. So you would have Lightning + Magnify, Lightning + MP Absorb. If you want unnecessary overkill setup, Lightning + HP Absorb as well. So when she uses any lightning spells, she gain HP and MP back while also doing area damage to everything within radius. If a certain mob doesn't get one shot by her, have Arcane Ward out and cast in the circle, for double cast. On the 2nd cast, it's reduced MP usage, so you gain back even more MP if you can out damage the usage.
Elemental Materia sucks when you face a boss resistant to it though. Thats why i always equip Wind Materia haha its the least resistant one so far i think
I think HP/MP up is *Very* important, especially if you want to do the Hard mode challenges. If you have them, you can ignore barrier and other skills and focus on offensive stuff like Luck Up, etc.
Yep, people claiming they played FF7 think this is comparable to FF7. It's not, this is a barebones skill selection system. They deleted the entire materia system.
@@Lambda.Function Because 1. The materia system was mad fun but also broken af. and 2. Because the real time gameplay renders a great deal of materia either worthless or impossible to emulate. How would you do All-slash? 4 x cut is useless. How would you justify or even perform a quadruple counter summon? Mime when 80% of abilities are character exclusive? One thing is for sure, it wasn't laziness as they massively overhauled the weapon/accessory system.
Mappy Bc this is a reimagining of the original story so it’s going to be different and a new system of gameplay, they also took out some old material to add some new material. Don’t complain and just enjoy the game for what it is now, if you want the original, go play that since you can easily get it
One thing that isn't too clear about Elemental..it is either or...it can add the element to your weapons only if set in your weapon and if you want to use it defensively it must be set to your armor. Luckily you get 2 but the 2nd one is only for beating all possible quests in one run.
Magnify is the best, oh how I wish you could get 2 of them in the game lol I like to couple it together with Time materia so I can give everyone Haste. Another good one you can use it with is Barrier so you can cast Manawall on every one at once.
Thank you so much for all your help and needs the materia I used in your video actually really help to me I'm bringing this on hard my like flying colors for now thank you so much and you have a lovely day and please be careful
AOE sleep is a godsend for a lot of hard mode group fights. Combined with Berzerk, you can make fights 1v1 against enemies that are easier to kill (but hit harder). Sleep is actually ultra useful in a lot of fights in general. Having problems with hell house's GOD HOUSE? Put it to sleep. It'll drop it's shield if it doesn't resist. Reno and Rude giving you trouble? Put one of them to sleep. If the enemy isn't straight immune to it, sleep is by far the best status you can do since it lasts a while, you can regen and get full atb before fighting again.
wow i'll try that later the status ailment materia is very situational or maybe very underated (also for almost every other jrpgs) nice to know there is someone like you experimenting the status ailments on enemies
Anyone else pissed they turned Added Effect into Warding so its only for defense (aka basically a wasted slot)? Is it because status magic got consolidated into like 3 materia or because status magic is now 100% proc if the monster isn't immune?
I'd say chakra is the most important materia for hard mode as you can heal a significant amount of health and cure poison with it's use and it doesn't consume MP
In the original game, some of my favorite Materia that I couldn't live without are Added Cut and Contain. Excited to see how these two might be implemented in this remake.
I'm sure that someone has already mentioned, but Elemental varies, depending on whether equipped to weapon or armor. I do miss the creation of new materia, upon mastering.
One more thing to add, in a way there is a sort of 3rd elemental materia. With the enemy skill Algid Aura which you can learn off the Cerulean Drake...it adds an icy shield that not only does a bit of ice damage to enemies that make contact, it also adds ice element to your weapon. Of course only useful against enemies weak to ice which are basically grounded monster type enemies. Also Magnify is without a doubt the best materia in the game along with AP Up as there are only one of each in the entire game. MP Absorb too, but a 0.1% absorption rate seems sort of lame. I guess in hard mode it could be useful but even then it can be debated...s shame because that required maxing out all the green materia which isn't that easy. MP absorb should have just been a materia that cuts all spells MP cost down by half or a quarter or something.
Only used barrier twice in hard mode, the best one for hard mode that i used was prayer to save on mana. And when it comes to the blue materia, you can only get them once, no matter how many play throughs you do.
Kg I don’t like prayer because it requires two atbs too situational you’re either sitting on two atb bars waiting to get hit hard enough and not casting any actions or you cast something get hit hard and now you don’t have enough atbs
@@anttheknee1372 that is why you have a back up healer, so you are not sitting on 2 atbs. And it's best to have prayer on Barret, you can easily build up the atbs with his overcharge. Plus if you have refocus and gotterdammerung, it makes it easier

I haven't seen anyone say it in the comments, but there are a LOT of comments, so... You say that leveling up the elemental materia lets you resist/nullify/absorb damage of that elemental type, but that's ONLY if you equip elemental on your ARMOR. Otherwise, love this.
Lol what game are y'all playing lol. . Steadfast block is top notch.. magic kinda sucks in this game.. except Aeriths OP ass lol .. but in hard dont be using offensive magic lol
Enemy skill is my go to on the original. The remake version sucks because the enemies to hit you with a attack is by random. On the original i can get all skills by using the manipulate materia to control the enemies to use their attack or benefit skills on the party. Maybe on the second part remake we will get the manipulate materia during the Gold Saucer scenario from Cait Sith.
Can anyone tell me why the elemental materia sometimes absorbs the element and sometimes it doesnt? I find it insanely inconsistent. Anyone else having the same issue?
so in other words they eliminated the passive ability to be able to cast magic on all enemies by hitting left or right, and instead force you to waste a materia slot (magnify) to use magic on multiple enemies. lol, poor design choice.
There's SO much materia I need to level that getting some of them to tier three is positively daunting... I hope to god there's like an elixir pot leveling spot in endgame like there was in the original.
Coliseum fights and a Fight Simulator will be your best bet for grinding AP. You can get most of your party to level 50 as early as Chapter 9 once you can use the Coliseum and use the "Two Party vs. Thugs". To make it as quick and easy as possible, use Magnify+Fire Linked and First Strike on someone and cast Fire on everyone for near 1 hit wins at first and later on one hit wins.
Would be nice to know if any of these are missable and if they were where to get them of if not want to be spoilery at least what chapter and what quest or area it's behind

I thought that as long as they were in the same line, it would work, but noooo, I had to put them together where they were connected to a line. I now feel so dumb. :(
Elemental materia has 2 uses FYI.
Remake = Classic Materia
Magnify = All materia
First strike = pre-emptive strike materia (Reworked)
Elemental = Elemental Materia
Barrier = Barrier
Time = Time
How are these spoilers? They are just reworks or materia found in the later stages of the original? Hopefully Added Effect Materia, Enemy Skill Materia, and Final Attack Materia will show up. Can't wait till I get my copy. Good video though.
PuffPastrix enemy skill materia does show up but there are only a few abilities given sadly
@@tombstonepizza2299 as expected considering it's found in shinra hq in classic and probably only post game enemies would give some spells for the remake
Final Attack + Revive. Can you even kill me?
@@gavinerickson9392 final attack + phoenix. Can you kill my team?
@@craigfunk3453 You can't in remake, bc summon materia is a separate thing now.
AP boost is a must have. If you don't have it grinding certain materia takes forever. Also using magnify can give you an instant limit break in some fights with a fairly big group of enemies. Makes for some really quick fights and very minimal resources lost
Time spells are a must in every FF game.
cant wait till we can use mime + counter in 10 years
I cant belive I never thought of linking heal on my aerith god damn I'm a moron
Dude I am new to FF7 and was so confused about materia yet you explained it so perfectly. I enjoy the game even more because of you. Thank you!!
Materia is item u use on the final fantasy games not only 7:)
olen lopettnut :)
Elemental Materia sucks when you face a boss resistant to it though. Thats why i always equip Wind Materia haha its the least resistant one so far i think
So you telling me that I can use the world? Sold
Funny enough, stop is for 10 seconds.
I think HP/MP up is *Very* important, especially if you want to do the Hard mode challenges.
If you have them, you can ignore barrier and other skills and focus on offensive stuff like Luck Up, etc.
Damn.. .. I miss the whole materia system.
Yep, people claiming they played FF7 think this is comparable to FF7. It's not, this is a barebones skill selection system. They deleted the entire materia system.
@@Lambda.Function This is part one. What would be left for the other parts if the whole system was in part one?
Don’t complain and just enjoy the game for what it is now, if you want the original, go play that since you can easily get it
especially enemy materia
I feel like playing mhw...😅😅😅
If the enemy isn't straight immune to it, sleep is by far the best status you can do since it lasts a while, you can regen and get full atb before fighting again.
wow i'll try that later
the status ailment materia is very situational or maybe very underated (also for almost every other jrpgs)
nice to know there is someone like you experimenting the status ailments on enemies
Pray materia is a must also in Hard Mode, helps a lot when fighting minions in order to save MP
Barrier was useful during Abzu (Ch. !0: Rough Waters). I’m late to the game after pre-ordering Rebirth - not realizing I needed to play Remake first.
I liked using Comet 2 with W-magic and quadra magic.
Triple Slash ability is kinda a little like the added cut materia.
You Forgot Prayer... Although It Requires 2 ATB Bars It Heals Your Entire Team Without Using MP
I'm sure that someone has already mentioned, but Elemental varies, depending on whether equipped to weapon or armor. I do miss the creation of new materia, upon mastering.
Thank you great video.
You forgot to mention the boost to stats that those materia gives like Barrier boosts defense and magic defense.
It would’ve been nice if you told us how to get these materia!
Yes!!!!!
exactly xDD
Thank you lol soup with a fork 🙄🙄
Yeah no shit.
The best materias are found by doing sidequests, others you need to keep an eye out when going from one village/town to another...
Square Enix just confirmed we'll get to keep our material and stats going into the remake episode 2.
Can I get a source on this? Because I've still not seen that confirmed a month later.
Got a source on that?
@@AstralMuffin105 I searched for it after seeing this and not getting a reply, and it's BS.
@@Dave_ja_vu source : trust me bro 👀
Elemental materia is definitely the best.
Paradise or pair o' dice?
I use First Strike on Cloud so I can Triple Slash and kill the random encounters in like 5 seconds
I miss the days when Materia give birth to another same materia once maxed
You seem not to Master the original FF7
It helped, man. Thank you. ✌😁
Plus if you have refocus and gotterdammerung, it makes it easier
don't they multiply once the materia reaches Max potential like in the original FF7 ?
@@wokeaf1337 not in the remake, might happen in later installments, but not in this one
@@kg9177 alright
They kinda missed the materia fun imo. Its ok but i miss complex ideas being op
Yeah I mean to be fair after disc 1 you didnt really have too much so it's reasonable in that regard. I was hoping for more end game content aswell but owell guess we gonna have to wait 2 more years for the next one haha
@@mikemakesmasters7989 They can always go the expansion/dlc route
@@PH03NIX96 I'm thinking 1-2 years for the next one but some dlcs in the meantime. I would love to do more side missions and maybe another couple of story missions

magic up x2 / heal/ Atb boost/ first strike / 2 elements recommend=fire and thunder / luck materia (optional) hp x 2(optional) or replace 1 hp up with revival
mythril saber (get all magic damage up)
/ platinum earrings/ chain bangle.
If your make is in the 400s you'll see that damage.
My magic is 450-49x depending who I use.
*PUT BARRIER with magnify on another chr* cast wall on your team. Pray could be a good aoe heal on a aerith or cloud.
This can also be used with aerith and her mythril rod get all magic and material buffs
This is a 22 year old conversation brought back to life.
speaking of dinosaur age games, i feel like playing that one horror dino game on the ps1 now, dino crisis, for a ps1 game it was scary af
Mana ward/Mana Wall is required to beat Bahamet. Bahamet has a tough 9999 blast move.
funny! basically...all of the materia I used to set up and mastered back in 1997, when I first beat FF7 LOL ! Fantastic!good to know that I can basically use the same strategies and materia layout for this game. :)
Yo, so does the Time Materia work together with the Magnify Materia?
Yes it does actually, I mainly use it to haste everyone
@@Fakermaister Alright, thanks, that was the first thing that came to my mind :D
Zypher how do you get the magnify material
@@jackbartlett6936 You find it when Cloud and Aerith meet for the first time and you have to go back to sector 7, at some point you will see a Blue Materia, that is the one, should be pretty hard to miss
Zypher ummm I’m in the part where cloud is leaving with her to go back to sector 7
at 2:39 I EQUIP IT WITH HEALING TOO IT IS SUPER USEFULL.
I like Fire, Ice, Elemental, and Poison
i'm curious if you have a weapon with 4 linked slots (2 linked + 2 linked) and you set one pair with say Fire materia+Elemental and the other with Fire materia+HP absorb.
Would it make the Flame damage you deal with weapon attacks, Absorb HP?...
EDIT-
Well tried it, and apparently no, it doesn't work, when 2 materias are linked, they are they own separate thing.
Sad face...
Zen-RPG thx for seeing. Yeah the materia is a little weak this time around imo.
To be fair, isn't that how it worked in the original too? Only the actual "fire" command would give you hp/mp, not all fire damage.
Wait, what? You can't use items in Hard mode?? Do they not drop? Are they just for sale?
cmike123 can’t use them during fights
No they drop its just greyed out you cant use them at all while playing hard
Just play to ch 8 hard mode , u can't use item at all , bed and bench also just heal , no mp . that's why mp is so important. the only way to get mp back is to finish the chapter
@@WinZerolive Not entirely true. You can get it back by destroying the boxes, it can also regen in battle with certain weapon skills
One shock that stuck, hard mode = no items allowed 😱
Can we all agree that this video is priceless holy guacamole totally nailed it I mean it’s exactly what I was looking for so mate you my friend got a like and a sub epic be safe too
I beat final fantasy so quickly and I’m really sad cause I didn’t take time with the game 😂
I have assess on always and when I use it and find out I need steal, I will restart the battle and flick on steal.
Late game i did Magnify + Time and used Prayer for healing
Surprise u didnt mention pray materia, been very clutch in hard mode, since it uses no mp!
I'm sorry, but if people don't want ANYTHING "spoiled" for a game then they shouldn't click a video ABOUT THE FUCKING GAME.
If you miss a Materia can you go back and get it later?
Yeah, you can
FF7's visuals are actually phenomenal
I thought these new combat style was a bore plane full active, but now that I see it better , is really interesting 🙌
so in other words they eliminated the passive ability to be able to cast magic on all enemies by hitting left or right, and instead force you to waste a materia slot (magnify) to use magic on multiple enemies. lol, poor design choice.
Thanks so much!!!
Playing this on ps5 with the update that makes synergy a fantstic materia. Not atb cost and no mp cost. And I can use any ability to make them casy
I got all the way to chapter 9 on hard stuck on Hell House wit no MP basically 😢😭😭😭😭
Id recommend Pray also. I put it on my ranged attacker/healer and it makes basically all the boss fights easy.
Thugs". To make it as quick and easy as possible, use Magnify+Fire Linked and First Strike on someone and cast Fire on everyone for near 1 hit wins at first and later on one hit wins.
otakon17 or in chapter 17 hojos simulator... 2 person vs flying mobs... spam it on easy and it’s like 180 AP and you can finish in under 2 minutes.
Would be nice to know if any of these are missable and if they were where to get them of if not want to be spoilery at least what chapter and what quest or area it's behind
