As a Vietnamese, this is also a first time I have seen a supermarket like that. Based on the quantity of products, it seems more like a convenient store than a supermarket for me. That choice of displaying products is definitely not a norm in Vietnam

Đây là cửa hàng tiện lợi, hàng hóa ít lèo tèo, bạn vào siêu thị Co-op mart, e-mart...hàng hóa mới nhiều

For translations: This is a convenient store, the options are limited, you should enter Co-op mart, e-mart, more items there.

The shelves are empty because you're shopping at a high-end supermarket inside a shopping mall, meaning the prices are higher compared to local markets. The locals don't shop there. They buy groceries at a more local and affordable supermarkets or local wet markets, which have more selections, fresher produce, and better prices.

You want to see normal, leave district 1 and you will find supermarkets like anywhere else in the world. This supermarket must be newly opened and located in the tourist area, bring a local in this supermarket and they will laugh at the displays too because this is not the norm for supermarkets in Saigon or Vietnam,

I suppose the reason for displaying fewer items on the shelves is that they overestimated the demand of costumers when they implemented the supermarket.
Such markets, located inside shopping malls, are usually more expensive than the others! I don't think they will last very long.

I hope you two have a great experience in Vietnam, there are good people and bad people everywhere. When you go out to eat, see which restaurant is crowded, go in and eat, whichever restaurant has clearly posted prices.

Vietnamese people are increasingly inclined to buy online. Therefore, supermarket businesses have fewer and fewer customers, so they arrange goods like this to make the display space less empty. I think so.

We drink tea more in Northern Vietnam. Even so, we prefer fresh tea leaf over dried tea. Still, you'll find more tea shops in Northern Vietnam.

Green tea is more popular than coffee in Vietnam. We often drink tea at home or on the street corner, and drink coffee in coffee shop.

You didn't go to the right supermarket guys . That grocery chain is closing its doors soon (bankruptcy). Check-out Winmarkt , Big C , Aeon Markt , Lotte Markt , Anan , The Gioi Xanh , etc...and you will find shelves full of merchandises and foods you are looking for . Don't jump too fast to the conclusion that shelves in Vietnamese supermarkets are empty . Do more researches and make an effort to look around dude . Comme la plupart des Canadiens Anglais , tu ne comprends évidemment pas le Francais .

    Try kẹo chuồi with gung
A kind of banana candy with some peanut and ginger (gung) pieces in it
Every time I am in Vietnam with my wife( a Vietnamese) hi, I have to buy this and bring it to Holland 😊

Painful memories! This is exactly the way „Alimentara”s looked during the 80s, in Ceaușescu's regime, in Romania. They tried to spread the few things they had on sale, on a great area of shelves.
There were endless rows of mustard jars, pyramidal heaps of canned food nobody was buying, whole shelves of "Zarea” sparkling wine and, the ubiquitous boxes with Vietnamese shrimp chips

Besides those pumpkin chips, jackfruit chips are also available there in Vietnam. Thanks for the impressive tour, Steve lvana.

They didn't go to the good supermarket . That food chain is closing down its business soon ( bankruptcy ) . There are many other supermarket chains in SGN and Vietnam that carry all kind of merchandises and foods the customers want to buy , and their shelves are always full of stuffs .

You're right. As a Vietnamese, I saw this store's name for the first time. It seems it only opens in the central area and looking at the number of customers can confirm the store's revenue. Prices here seem at least 10% more expensive than other convenience stores.😂

Currently, the economy is in crisis, a lot of rented premises have been returned, business is slow, purchasing volume has decreased so products are now only about 30% of what they were before.

I can assure you this is a strange "supermarket" even by Vietnamese standard. Pretty sure it's just a convenient store inside of a mall. A normal dedicated supermarket in Vietnam will be at least 5 times the size of this one. Well I guess you're not in Vietnam anymore so you havent found out.
