Steve, thanks for making the video, it’s the first time seeing someone shooting one of these. I see yours was converted from the model 1863 Springfield musket. I have one that was converted from the model 1861 and one from a model 1863 musket. They are pretty neat guns with a big bore.
Hi Doc. They are lathe turned cases from Rocky Mountain Cartridge. They came with the rifle. I thinned the necks to be able to use a .595" diameter bullet. They work well.
@@SwabbieSteve I love these big bore rifles. I own a Snider rifle and a Snider Carbine. I shoot .585 lead round balls from 24 ga, cheddite shells from the rifle very accurately. I shoot .578 cast hollow base minie bullets that I swage to .595 with a wood plug inserted into the base out of shortened altered 24 ga brass cases thru the carbine. I have always wanted a .58 centerfire rifle to load and shoot. I enjoy watching Doc's videos too.
Gotta love a 58! Somehow it seems more impressive when being a cartridge gun. I got a 58 Needham conversion myself. Check out the video, and get a "Dimwit-style" history lesson...
Good video! Thanks for making it.
Hi Steve, I never saw one of these, it's a great story. Thanks for the video............Doc
Thanks Doc. It is an unusual one, and loads of fun to shoot.
Amazing video, such a nice weapon.
You did good explaining back ground ,quite interesting Thanks
Thanks

Yes, they used whatever they got cheap!
Man that’s a nice weapon
Thanks Rick - it's a lot of fun!
Great Googly that's cool. I wonder how that compares to 577 snider
Pretty similar, maybe a tad less recoil.
Hi Steve, I'm watching this again for the first time. Please tell me what you are using for brass cases.....Doc

I saw your Needham video yesterday! Most interesting. Not many if us shoot. 58s. I'd like to find a .58 rimfire too :-)
Where did you find or make the .58 rimmed brass?
Rocky Mountain Cartridge Co. Google them.
