@@jc8153 You forget that, if you're in a position to bite the BJJ got, he's likely already choking you or in a position to destroy whatever joint he's currently manipulating. A bite won't get you out of an armbar or a triangle, and since the ground fighter is more experienced fighting there, 100% he'll have an easier time controlling the position and being in more dominant places. What's more, if you can bite him, he can just as well bite you back, if not worse. There are a lot of things to think about in a fight; not just what you *might* do

As a BJJ practitioner, it's annoying people try to say one is better than the other. If you want actual self-defense knowledge then you should practice both. If you're looking for one martial art to do as a lifestyle get a free trial at both and see which one is more appealing to you.
It doesn't matter which you pick if you aren't going to be there in 6 months because you gave up from a lack of genuine interest which happens so often.

I don't think its the style, but the person who uses it. Take Wing Chun and Jeet Kune Do (2 styles Bruce Lee did) these were not very effective styles for most people, but in the hands of the right person, they can beat almost anyone.
Some styles are of course better then others, but its not always the determining factor. But like you said, its good to know more then one style. But overall, I think Muay Thai is a great style and if they also learned some BJJ, they would be most deadly fighters around.

  • @BruceWat

You'll notice that the jiu jitsu fighter has one of the muay thai fighter's arms trapped between his legs. In this situation, instead of trying to pull out, try to get the other arm in between his legs. If you can get both arms in, the tension needed to create an effective lock will be lost.
If you ever find yourself on the ground with a jui jitsu fighter, it helps to think of yourself as a rubber band. The jui jitsu fighter wants to stretch you out with tight fitting holds until you're ready to snap. Looseness and slack tend to be the enemy to a jui jitsu fighter. So instead of always trying to break out of a hold, try to see if you can take away it's tension. Sometimes this means you want to move in closer rather than pulling away.

This is intially the point where the jiu jitsu fighter manages to trap one of the muay thai fighter's arms, isolating it from the other arm. If one can't pull the trapped arm free, the alternative is to angle and maneuver to get the isolated arm between the legs that are trapping the single arm. This neutralizes submissions that require the seperation of the opponent's arms.
It is ideal to read the opponent's actions early and act immediate when the opponent is trying to throw their legs over in order to single out one of the arms. For the thai fighter, the best moment to act might have been when the jui jitsu fighter intially placed a leg over his left shoulder. Only question is, even if the thai fighter were to escape this hold, would he be able to escape the next one?

  • @patrickwhite8144
    @patrickwhite8144 7 лет назад +59

Jiu Jitsu is the single most effective martial art because of what Stephan Kesting articulated: striking can beat striking but it cannot beat grappling; whereas grappling can beat grappling and it can beat striking. Judo has better throws and Wrestling has better takedowns, but Judo and Wrestling have very underdeveloped ground games, and Jiu Jitsu fighters are constantly learning from Judo and Wrestling because the rule set of sport Jiu Jitsu is more expansive. I think there is an argument to be made that sport Jiu Jitsu is pretty much just submission grappling, with perhaps a few caveats. That said, as MMA is now starting to demonstrate, preventing a takedown is easier than executing one, and experienced wrestlers are getting very good at preventing Jiu Jitsu fighters from taking the fight to the ground. When it comes to a one-on-one street fight against someone who has not spent years learning to defend takedowns, I don't think anything comes close to being as effective as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

In my experience (blue belt) 1. your shin being across his neck, 2. his arm being across your body and 3. the angle you had (esp. at 1:25 and after) would def. put someone out if they didn't tap. Is there something I'm missing here? Nice switch to arm bar btw.

you cant just elbow someone who has you in a triangle choke. you might get them once with the elbow of the arm they have trapped, maybe, (big maybe) but besides giving them your arm (which is one thing they want, to help finish the triangle or even to switch to arm bar you) but you also give them enough momentum to roll you over onto the ground; then youre really fucked cause youre still in the triangle but now theyre on top of you and you cant stand back up. if youre on top there are defenses you can do but if you get rolled over youre probably fucked.

man people love to argue. grappling absolutely works in a street fight. a 1v1 ill take a grappler over anything else in that fight. but that doesnt mean striking is useless. it can be just as effective. i just see the superior control over your opponent that grappling gives you as an advantage. but the hard truth is if its more than a 1v1 theres a good chance regardless of what martial art you do that youre gonna get the shit kicked out of you. in a multiple attacker situation? thats when the only martial art you need to know is parkour so you can get the fuck out of there. you dont want to fight 4 dudes at the same time even if youre Canelo alvares . and we havent even started talking about weapons yet. you can be the reigning UFC heavyweight champion. but some 120 pound tweaker with a gun he barely knows how to use is gonna snuff you out like a candle in the rain.

people always denounce grappling in street fighting since it's rarely 1v1 and you don't wanna be wriggling around on the floor if their friend can just come up and stomp your head into the ground.
So, yes, keeping a distance and striking + throws will work best against multiple attackers (there probably will be multiple attackers). But honestly, there ain't much you can do about multiple attackers with any martial art, even if your attackers are completely unskilled. Also, they will likely have a weapon.
So the best self defense strategy, in my opinion, is don't go outside and live in your basement with a shotgun by you at all times and a knife in your pocket. When you get groceries or walk outside, immediately run from closed spaces, high-traffic areas, and hide behind women as they are more likely to get attacked than you. When men get too close to you, immediately start high-pitched screaming and running zig-zagged away from them. Have extremely basic and surface-level conversations with your friends and family, being careful to avoid confrontation and disagreement. When invited to someone's house, always break into their house to assess any dangers before you get there. Self defense solved.

If you want people to think that your martial arts is the best. You have to beat Muay Thai. It's always been like this. This is a good indication that Muay Thai is the pinnacle of martial arts. Muay Thai has proven that they can defeat their opponents even if they fight under unfavorable rules. They have proven it countless times. To defeat your opponent by not using your strongest weapons like elbows and knees. At the same time, what would happen if jiu jitsu had to fight under disadvantageous rules like Muay Thai? What would happen if you were forbidden to strangle, forbidden to break arms, forbidden to break legs, or forbidden to hug? You can bet that jiu jitsu fighters will never be able to defeat their opponents the way Muay Thai can.

Cool video, a lot of "why no elbows?" understandably. I'm not 100% but when they are wearing rash guards it is usually an amateur fight, and in some states amateurs can't use elbows at all, grounded, standing, clinching etc. So if indeed one gentleman was a "Muay Thai guy", he was at a disadvantage in some regards.
PS that's jumping guard, I know it's semantics, but......people read.

Which is why the guy in red (jiujitsu guy) won, he had an advantage on the ground, in this case he choked him with a technique called triangle choke.
