Low Back pain -- Has Back Surgery or Physical Therapy Failed you? My advice:

  • Lately, I've had a surge of people reaching out to me concerning being released by their surgeon to return to lifting, their work, or 100% released only days to weeks after their back surgery, with no rehab assigned to them. They are told "no limitations."
Paralleling the above, I also have seen more post-surgery clients who visit their designated physical therapists without being instructed on how to help themselves heal when they aren't attending therapy, 1-2x per week.
What's worse, most of the time, the treatment provided to the client is either wrongly executed (lousy form due to poor coaching) or incorrectly applied to the client, which is very disheartening for the client/patient. In addition, sometimes, the therapist fails to consider their client/patient's limitations, goals, and genetics, making them worse.

Man I really needed to see this today. I had a microdisectomy on January 3 of 2023 at 27 years old. I have a pretty physical job and healed pretty great so far. Started working out and stretching more and now my low back is sore with certain ones..I pray that it’s nothing too serious but this video showed me that the surgery wasn’t a permanent fix. I hope it’s not too late!

Hope you feel better, but unless you change things it's not usually a good outcome.

Wish I found Brian’s book and website sooner. Only had a couple coaching sessions so far but feeling less pain already in just two months and feeling genuine hope for the first time in over a year. Can’t recommend more than a million times over

If I ever needed surgery I’d be anxious to get under the bar for years after let alone a few weeks after

How are you feeling? It's funny how many people get right back under the bar and squat right away

I just had a microdisc and have 2 weeks until I’m cleared to begin Physical Therapy in 2 more weeks. I’m only being sent to PT once and I’d assume it will only be generic exercises. I’ve already read Gift of Injury and Back Mechanic, am I able to schedule a consult with you to guide me through my recovery?

I help post surgical like you all the time. I wouldn’t expect much from the PT honestly.

I got my MRI results today and it sounds way worse than I thought. Is it better to do a consult with you before or after surgery to get myself a better chance at a full recovery??

Keep in mind, MRI results are only a tiny part of the picture.
