    Don't bother with their decal sheet. If you want to run a Night Lords armor, you should learn to paint lightning. It's honestly not as hard as it seems.

    Slight editing error where the music track carries on at the end. I've made a trim to it in editing but RUclips hasn't applied it to the video yet for some reason. In probably 15 minutes it will take effect, but it's bizarre to say the least.

    I think 30k is a bit too vehicle heavy for Night Lords to really shine unless they take generic rights of war. I am about to swap over to this and I am a bit annoyed at losing a bit of the flavour of the legion in order to react to the meta. I do still want to do a massive biker force one day.

    About the Night Raptors.
    I play Night Lords (who would've thought) and I remember them as 'only' having +d3 hammer of wraths instead of the +3 attacks you've been talking about.
    Don't have the book with me though.
    And maybe you correct yourself later in the video. I was just too impatient to wait.
    That's that, I shall continue watching now.

    • @TheOuterCircle
      @TheOuterCircle  6 лет назад +13

      Nope, it's "+D3 attacks that replaces the normal charge bonus". I do think I said it as a flat +3 tho and forgot the D-part. Ooops.
      That said, I record all of these off the top of my head, rather than just looking up their rules. It's nice to know what knowledge I retain and I like to test myself each episode to see if I remember everything!

    Where does it say in the rules that Vorax are Very Bulky? I've checked the Vorax entry in the Mechanicum army list, the monstrous creatures entry in the rulebook and a few other entries in places that would seem logical but have come up with nothing. It is clear to me that if jump units are bulky (and it does say that much in their profile) then the Vorax must be at least very bulky based on the size difference. What am I missing here? Any guidance on the location of this info would be extremely appreciated!

    Macca, love your videos mate, you've got a lot of chutzpah and say what needs to be said about the hobby. Now that's out of the way; I couldn't disagree with you more about Sevatar as an HQ choice. I've had a lot of luck using him as the leader of my force in a number of 30k games. While his lack of a 2+ save is a detriment, its not as bad as it seems when you consider that you can throw him in a command squad or terminator unit to protect him from shooting, and most close combat units in 30k have ap 2 on their weapons to begin with. You argue that Sevatar would be better used as a legion praetor, so lets compare these two options:
    Let's say I have a legion praetor with an Iron Halo, a master crafted paragon blade, melta bombs, and trophies of judgement: 175 points so same cost as Sevatar (I chose this specific wargear to be as comparable to Sevatar as possible):
    1 - Who is better in close combat? Both units have 4 strength 5 attacks with master crafted. The Praetor's weapon is ap 2, while Sevatar's weapon is ap 3 with rending (slight advantage to the Praetor). The Praetor's weapon has the instant death rule on 6s to wound, while Sevatar has instant death for all attacks while he is in a challenge (slight advantage to Sevatar). Sevatar has one better WS and one better Initiative than the Praetor; this is a huge advantage as it means Sevatar strikes first and hits on 3+ compared to the Praetor's 4+. Overall: I'd say Sevatar has the edge in close combat in a 1-on-1 duel (even without considering Sevatar's psychic abilities, which are discussed in point 3 below).
    2- The melta bombs give the Praetor an edge when it comes to fighting vehicles in close combat, however the fact that Sevatar has rending gives him some capability against things like Contemptor Dreads. I actually had Sevatar kill a Contemptor in a tournament game, was this likely? No (even though he was under the effects of precognition, see below), however it does illustrate that Sevatar is far from helpless when it comes to CC against vehicles. Overall, I would say the Praetor is marginally better against vehicles in close combat.
    3- Sevatar is a level 1 psyker: This is a major advantage that should not be overlooked, especially given how strong his default psychic power (precognition) is. Re-rolling to hit, to wound, and saving throws is a huge buff for a unit, especially if you are trying to get rending hits to connect. Also, he has prescience due to psychic focus, which is just an all around good power. This and the fact that he gives you an extra power dice and +1 to deny the witch for him and his unit makes this ability one of Sevatar's most overlooked strong points. Yes the leadership 7 when suffering Perils of the Warp sucks.
    Overall: I'd have to say for the same points I'd much rather have Sevatar then the Praetor. Now obviously the Praetor has access to a whole host of wargear options that Sevatar does not (the Praetor could take a combi-melta for instance). But I think I've laid out a pretty strong argument for why I think Sevatar is not a bad HQ choice, in fact I'd even go so far as to say he's pretty good (though not great).

    • @TheOuterCircle
      @TheOuterCircle  6 лет назад +1

      I like the praetor for more than those surface reasons. For example, terminator armour or a jump pack means that you an actually deep-strike with him, a huge gain over poor Sev. Also, a Night Lords Praetor, with Thunder Hammer, on a jetbike, is a brutal SOB. You will tank most Paragon blades, and your return blows, well, let's say if they're anything less than toughness 5, you WILL instant kill them, and if they're more than Toughness 5, you'll at least concuss them.
      That's why I like Praetors more, they will be more expensive I they are built right, but this guy here, mr bike-hammer will beat Sevatar 9 out of 10 times.

    • @izaakkemp8938
      @izaakkemp8938 6 лет назад +1

      I concede that the Praetor has a lot more options when it comes to wargear and such, but I disagree that the bike-hammer will beat Sevatar in a 1-on-1 battle, especially if precognition has been activated. With precognition, Sevatar has a 59.25% (768/1296 to be exact) chance of killing the biker before he gets to swing (assuming the biker has an iron halo). The biker only has 41% chance of killing Sevatar due to his 4++. Even without precognition, Sevetar has a 39% chance of killing the biker before he gets to swing, hardly a 9/10 victory for smash-f**ker.

    • @TheOuterCircle
      @TheOuterCircle  6 лет назад

      Dice it out. I have found the Praetor to be the more versatile option in games, but you never know.

  • @jakubjayvincent3203

    Would a Legion Praevian, with say two Castellax, be a viable anti-tank option?

    • @TheOuterCircle
      @TheOuterCircle  6 лет назад +3

      It could be, but Vorax can absolutely wreck tanks, strength 6, rending, ap2, or can smash with rending and ap2. Castellax with multi-meltas can kill at range, it's entirely up to you. If you use the Castellax tho, you will need to upgrade them to have the ability to outflank which means you'll lose the Night Lords legion special rule, which means no bonus for outnumbering. (Which is a shame, because at Strength 7 with +1 to wound you're instant-wounding toughness 5 and below)

    • @jakubjayvincent3203
      @jakubjayvincent3203 6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the advice. I must say that the predatory look of the Vorax suits the VIII legion. I run the Terror Assault RoW and it permits only one Heavy Support slot so I try to put as much anti-tank stuff into other slots. I was also thinking about a Javelin or two or a squad of attack bikes with meltas.

    I’m wanting to start a night lords legion army the thing is I’m a little confused with how the organisation for command structure works. they say that the night lords don’t operate like other legions with chapters and prefer to work in company’s. does this mean a company in the night lords works similarly to a chapter in terms of having bike squads, destroyer squads etc? Is a night lords captain equivalent to a praetor?
    If anyone could help me with how the light lords work I would be extremely appreciative!

    • @TheOuterCircle
      @TheOuterCircle  6 лет назад +2

      A standard Legion company consists mostly of tactical squads with other units attached to that company based on the battle being fought. A company in the heresy is basically the size of a 40k chapter.

  • @michaelkeha

    Funny they are perceived as weak in 30k yet in 40k 8th edition their rule is downright broken as they can do ungodly amounts of damage to the enemy with pretty much no saves to stop them and can fucking ruin anyone using plasma weapons day.

    You say the Praevian is event exclusive, but that's not really true. A specific Iron Warriors praevian is event exclusive, not the HQ choice itself, which can be made from any character kit. I'm surprised you're not advocating for people to buy character models and bitsbox them into a Praevian.
    And I'm very sure you're well aware of this, so the omission is strange.

    Do you think tartaros termies would be better than cataphractii specifically for the night lords? Just thinking of running any CC survivors down etc?

    • @TheOuterCircle
      @TheOuterCircle  6 лет назад +3

      I think they are both perfectly viable, do remember however that you want numbers in combat, so it's often more beneficial to have the cataphractii who last longer instead of the fleeting chance to run down an enemy.

    • @Grubnar
      @Grubnar 6 лет назад +2

      In 40k (and 30k) their greatest weakness is also their greatest strength. They are generalists, a jack of all trades and master of none. While this means that the forces dedicated to Khorne and Slaneesh will outdo them at their specific craft, the Night Lords have options that the others do not!
      Getting slaughtered in close combat by Khorne Berzerkers? Shoot them from afar!
      Getting murdered by Noise Marines? Out maneuver them and kite them around the battlefield while you wear them down!
