Absolutely no one can sing this song like Tom Jones. He literally lives in the song and only he can sit and talk in the middle of a song. One of the most moving recordings that we will ever see by a singer. The GREAT Tom Jones!!!

Had to add a comment albeit a bit tardy. This is a fantastic reaction to what is, in my opinion, the best singer of this sad atmospheric song.

I love this rendition of green green grass, I have seen several reactions to it but it amazes me how so many don't get the meaning of those haunting lyrics. Tom Jones has always been a favourite of mine his voice and range is so captivating

Dad would sing green green grass of home on his dobro guitar.
Dad passed away April 1st this year at the age of 89
Navy veteran served in Korea, Construction Battalion Sea Bees on the 38th parallel. Honored by General Douglas Mcarthur for service. Dad retired as a telephone linesman and communications installer and also a Nodak Speedway Hall of Fame inductee for pioneering the front end alignment on race cars in 1959 which changed racing as used today. Nodak Speedway is the oldest sanctioned race track in the USA.

Tom Jones has the ability to bring you into the song, it's as if you're living the song. The emotions he puts into the song, no gimmicks just pure raw feelings and it drags you in. What a voice!

I’ve always thought of this as Tom’s last installment of a four-part story about the same woman. First is I’ll Never Fall in Love Again, then I Who Have Nothing (where he obsesses on the woman who has moved on to another man), then Delilah, then the tragic tale ends here. I know that’s not done on purpose, but it sure works out.

While the first couple of verses of “Green, Green Grass Of Home” sound like they’re describing the protagonist’s homecoming, the final verse reveals the singer is daydreaming and he’s actually locked in a prison cell on death row awaiting execution. The final line of the song, “Yes, they'll all come to see me, In the shade of that old oak tree, As they lay me 'neath the green, green grass of home” is a reference to the protagonist’s burial in his hometown after his execution.

I was just surfing around and stumbled on your reaction of this song. As mostly, the older you get the more your past seems to matter and 9 out of 10 times you wind up listening to the oldies and the memories that go along with them...
Anyway, I must have listened to 20 other "reaction" videos to this same song and it seems to be you're the only one that really knows what the song is all about! The other ones aren't really listening and/or make a video just for the sake of hits they're hope to get...? Either way, they don't have fucking clue, excuse my language (and my english in some sentences maybe also...😉, I'm dutch...😊)
Really nice to know there's at least one person that knows what he is talking about, that's all. Just my 2 cents...👍

Your English is just fine, and your comments are even better. Yes, I think most reactors don't really LISTEN to the song, and many probably don't care all that much anyway.
      Thanks!

And your right, I also can't put my finger on why this version does the trick for me. Besides Tom around 30 more artists of all genres must have covered this song in the past. Hell, even Jerry "The Killer" gave it a shot and Dean Martin felt the call to give it a Neapolitan love twist, haha.
      Anyway, you're very welcome.
Keep up the good work and take care!

The original one he done first, he was a bit younger and sang it behind bars in jail. The emotion and passion he puts in to all songs is amazing, there’s only one Tom no one compares to him. The fact that he is not in the rock and roll hall of fame is a travesty!!

This is a great song about a man who is on death row but an equally great song (in my opinion) about a man on death row is Merle Haggard's "Sing Me Back Home". Both are fantastic songs by legendary singers. I'm a brand new subscriber from Nashville, Tennessee.

some songs are just done better by some artist than other talented artist......Tom Jones has many great songs he does better than others........Another example is the song Unchained Melody.....many have recorded this song since 1955 including Elvis Presley but none can come close to the version by Bobby Hatfield
