Karen was only 21 here. Nobody had a better contralto (lowest register for female singers) than Karen Carpenter!

Sorry to disappoint but the fact is (They long to be) Close to You was released August 19, 1970. We knew Karen as a very loved voice of the seventies. She was only drumming in the 60's to folk rock. She was yet to be signed to A&M records. A better choice here would have been Diana Ross and the Supremes.

Apart from one, not particularly sensational, album released in 1969 Karen Carpenter was a SEVENTIES girl singer, not a 60s one.

Back when female singers like these wonderfully talented women, along with the the likes of Connie Francis, Eydie Gorme, and Marilynne McCoo, could entertain, without the histrionics, tatoos, twerking, crotch holding or simulated sex acts that have become the "norm" for the NO OR LITTLE TALENT wanna-be strippers and hookers who dominate the current music industry. So very glad that I grew up listening to those who possessed true God-given talent, and needed NO GIMMICKS to "entertain" their audience.
When I was a boy my grandfather would put rings in the hogs nose to keep them from rooting in the ground seen it in Africa people now in America first time I seen it though it was snot in a girl Karen nobody close to her voice
