I bought some gorilla crystal clear tape a while ago I still have.... thanks for the idea.... a lot cheaper and very durable /thick ,,, I'll be putting on where the chain travels around...I had the chain come off once and bummed me out hitting my frame... no damage but not taking another chance...

Be aware of how hard that might be to remove. The Racers Tape comes of clean. Just a thought.

Would it make sense to use a 4" tape on the downtube? Better or worse? Thanks!

Sure...if the DT is that big and wide, it totally does. Also, you can always trim it to fit if it tapers, etc. One thing with the 4" is that it is much harder to lay it down if the surface is irregular, like wrapping handlebars with thick and wide tape, etc. making bends and getting it to conform is more challenging.

For this frame. I have the same (ADHX) for a winter build. Would you suggest the 4" or 2" for the downtube? I am guessing you placed another piece on the other side since you showed punching holes for the bottle holders. Thanks! I used a similar material on a car 20 years ago, it protected from many stone chips!

@@ArdenHarry I used a 2" for the underside of the DT. I think a 4" would wrap pretty far up the sides which is ok, but I was more concerned about the center/bottom of the DT for what a tire might kick up. If this was a gravel bike or an MTB, I might have gone full 4". The piece with the punched holes was for the top of the TT, both for the way I like to sit on it at rest stops and for the straps for frame bags, TT bags, etc.

Yeah. You need to work from the center to the edges

One can always get a cheaper frame - no need to protect it probably enjoy it better.
