There is so much there, but when you take a closer look its actually not much and that's so cool.

Favorite album of the year so far. I think Anthony is right that this record is full of vocal and instrumental abstractions, however, that’s why it appeals to me. Not every artist has to have an album filled brim to brim with intricate thoughts and lyrical perspective. If there is no proper way to articulate your thoughts with words - focusing into offering genuine, raw (and yes, at times abstract) emotion is plenty fine with me

As a childhood friend of his, I can say that Mike’s been working for a very long time to get where he is and deserves more. He’s always been an incredible musician even at the beginning and also a very polite person. I think Anthony was already looking for something particular before listening to his album that he didn’t find. The abstract concepts of the album sonically are what make this record stand out, which is something most people on here are already mentioning. And if he’s going to mention Dijon’s work, he needs to also realize that Mike basically wrote and produced a huge portion of that record (I would say almost all of it). So yeah, did Fantano miss the point of the record? I would say more than partially yeah. Is it neat that he gave a review? Depends on who you ask really. Does this have any effect on Mike? Not even for a second. Keep being you Mike 💙.

One listen, and this album is atrocious.
But then 3 weeks later you realize you’ve been singing one of those abstract melodies, and you decide to go back and give it another shot.
Next thing you know it’s on repeat and one of the best albums you listened to all year.
I’d be interested to see if after some time away if Anthony feels the same as he did originally.

I’m surprised Fantano didn’t rate this higher-it’s one of the most novelty-driven, hipster records I’ve come across in a while. While I enjoy the abstract ideas, I have to agree with a lot of the critiques mentioned.
On first listen to his catalog, my favorite tracks are Dimeback and Dream Police. They’re steeped in nostalgia and carry an infectiously moody vibe, but something feels missing, and I can’t quite put my finger on it.
That said, I stumbled upon the live version of Candy (the video on the bus), and suddenly, the identity of the music resonated with me a lot more. It feels like a “style over substance” project, but when you bring in the eccentricity of a moody emo kid effortlessly channeling Prince on guitar, it’s hard not to appreciate it.
Still, I feel like MK could really benefit from working with an interesting co producer-someone like Trent Reznor-to help ground the music and let it truly blossom. I’m hopeful that we’re witnessing the start of something special here and that he’ll evolve into creating something as iconic as Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill.
Right now, it feels like the music needs an anchor-it can’t all just be one wash of darkness, at least not for me. I really hope his career doesn’t fade away, though, because there’s so much potential here.

Antony, you don't understand that his guitar tone is Ground Breaking... But you don't Understand Tone you're a failed bassist who clout chases real Musician's/Rappers and thinks he can speak at the table, go back to the kids table my guy. Mk. Gee and Dijon have made some of the best music out right now. Just sit down and color...

Time and time again I am amazed at how Fantano doesn’t really resonate with a lot of the more chiller more understated textures and vibes nowadays. He’s either really into “spicy” music or really well constructed pop with strong vocals.
I knew listening to this album that he was going to give it something of a 5-6 when in my eyes this is a refreshing feat of music. Mk.Gee really did an amazing job of creating his own musical world with this one. I’ll be jamming to this one for years to come.

Its always been that way. He didn’t like/get lucki and hes been pretty critical of earl. He wants something polished and put together where everything seems intentional. I think thats fair and a very understandable perspective even though I don’t share it.

Hi im just throwing stuff at the wall so you can figure out what scratches your brain the same way. Maybe the album suntub by ML Buch. Painless by Nilüfer Yanya. I would try out dragon new warm mountain by big thief, maybe the glow part 2 by the microphones. I think a lot of Bon iver stuff also sounds close, like 22 a million and tracks from the self titled, but I wouldn’t exactly call it live texture, just a lot of similar elements.
