Two Star & the Dream Police is the debut studio album by American singer-songwriter, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist Mk.gee, released on February 9, 2024, through R&R. The album was supported by five singles: "Candy", "How Many Miles", "Are You Looking Up", "You Got It", and "Dream Police".
The album received critical acclaim, with particular praise for the lyrical content, production, and Mk.gee's musical growth and vocal performances. It has been listed on several mid-year rankings of the best albums of 2024 and was named among the best albums of the first half of the 2020s by Pitchfork.
I thought this day would never come

EXACTLY
You have to do Dijon Absolutely now !!
+1
Agree
dudes will see this comment and think: hell yeah (i'm dudes)
YES.
@@eugenebarilo the whole absolutely film would be so cool
Please listen to Dijon's 'Absolutely'. It's brilliant and was co-produced by Mk.gee!!
Two geniuses
Not the whole album but a good amount of songs 👍
90% of what u think is a synth on this record is actually a guitar. Mk. Gee and Andrew Aged (the second guitar player) have a hexaphonic midi pick up on their guitar which they run through a roland vg-8. That console lets you play synth sounds with a guitar. So much of his guitar tones on this record is the guitar signal with the guitar synth mixed in parallel.
Mind blown
Ima say fuck yeah
this is ridiculous what the fuck
You guys need to listen to the live versions too, adds a whole new element and takes it to another level
Yes!!!
Agree!
Rylee & I live made it one of the best songs on the album
The live versions leave me in awe every single time!
He should really just release a live album as a companion to the studio release cause sonically they’re totally different but both great
btw, Mk.gee live is absolutely crazy. I saw him in Houston and I was blown away. Definitely enhances the experience for me.
Absolutely. Made me appreciate the album even more.
Saw him in Dallas I’ll never see a better concert
Completely diffeerent album. His studio work is kinda bland, live is insane
saw him live in LA it was beautiful
bro i saw him in Boston, sh*t was NUTS

This project is so special😭😭 Im so glad more people are finding out about mkgee. Hes like one of those arists where if you know you.
If you know you what?????
So close, just… you just needed one more word.
know.
here to be another voice telling yall that Dijon's 'Absolutely' is well worth a listen & reaction. Mk.gee coproduced many of the tracks & the live version of the record that's on youtube is a great display of his & Dijon's chemistry!! Loved the reaction!
you need to hear the live versions of this album. are you looking up live version is insane!
I love the live version soooo much! They’re a lot more vocal forward tracks than the album versions, super raw, which I freakin looove!!
both of them are mkgeeked
So clever…love that!!!!!
I feel like this is an album that defined the year for me in a way that Dijon’s Absolutely, and Frank’s Blonde did when they dropped. I will always remember 2024 as the year Two Star & The Dream Police came out. It’s now become one of my favorite albums of all time. So much soul and heart in his music, great writing too!
Same here exactly. Similar to Blonde, I didn’t “get it” immediately. But with repeated listens this became such a full and emotionally resonant album that’s easily my favorite this year
@@vineethpuli5079exactly that
this is so real
yup
Totally agree, such a great way to put it.
Rylee & I so underrated
Probably my favourite
by far my favorite, them saying break the spell is a high point broke my heart.
@@BadMiloMusicthat’s my favorite lmao
When the cp70 comes in after the break 🎉🎉🎉🎉
2nd favorite
I listen to this album once a day no joke. Such an addicting listen. Glad you guys checked this out!
just saw him live tonight in Minneapolis, and he's nuts. love his sound, and it sounds so good live. probably my favorite live performer I've seen so far.
Saw him the other day and I want to do it all over again.
i lost count of how many times he played DNM what a night
@@jasperposey3446 at least 8 😆
@@KanjiSutra I was there too and I'm pretty sure it was 10 times in a row and then twice more in the encore 🤣
Best concert i’ve ever been to in my life. Somehow made the album 100x better
just saw him yesterday live in paris
couldnt agree more !
Mk.gee is just so cool, man. His sound is fresh and he's so unique in todays day and age of 'fast food' music. Even Clapton recognised it. Even though his output is already incredible I can't wait to see his evolution over the next few years.
Well, the pop space is full of fast food music, and the alternative space has so so much to offer. Which space is Mk.gee in?
My brother actually directed a music video of his back when his first album was dropping. Its crazy how much Mk.gee blew up over the past few years!
so glad yall listened to this, and I got the patreon so I didn't have to wait on this
mk.gee's feel as a guitarist is so special. to hear someone playing with such intricate riffing, and in a low-ass tuning, is such a refreshing thing in a pop context
Never clicked on a video faster, I'm so glad you guys covered this!!
I love mk.gee been tryna get people to listen to him for 4 years, so happy to see his progression
Mk.gee wanted this album to feel like a liminal space like a lot of stuff you’ve heard before like the backrooms or those pictures you recognize but can’t figure out what it is truly a masterpiece of work with lots of texture and character with his sonic and prominent guitar and vocals
going and listening to the live performance versions is something i think everyone should do for themselves
loved the reaction, yall guys really need to react some king krule, dijon or banes world
YES
The thing that came to mind when I first heard the album was the atmosphere. Feels like a distant memory and trying to piece something together. It’s quite dream like at times too. Also feels like it kinda drifts into some of those nocturnal cuts from The Blue Nile’s Hats feeling wise
LETS GO WE NEED DIJON NEXT

life is crazy, checked this album out literally 2 days ago because someone in your comment section mentioned it - and now this lol. it's a masterpiece, alesis might be one of the best songs of this year
For those curious about his special guitar tone, Mk.Gee uses a tascam portastudio as a preamp, a Roland vg8 guitar synthesizer, and a ranger fx reverb that has built in distortion (really prominent in the live videos)
Never clicked so fast
Edit: some of the synth sounds you hear are his guitar with a midi pickup hooked up to the Roland VG8 modeler, awesome sound.
One of the best most unique artists and albums I’ve heard in a long time, also amazing live
Candy is sooooo underrated on the album honestly my fav atm
Saw Mk.gee live a few weeks ago, definitely a must see for this album. His live sets are unbelievable.
His aura was crazy in Brooklyn last weekend
@@vineethpuli5079 Saw him in New Haven Wish I could've made another show that same week.
everyone i know has a new favorite everytime they listen to the album! it's ever changing and there's a new perspective to learn with every listen TY FOR THE REVIEW
Been listening to this album all year, really unique sound
Saw him in Toronto earlier this year in a smaller venue. One of the best performances I’ve ever seen. He riffs a lot when performing live, so many songs get such unique sounds added in. Thought the album was cool, but seeing him live made me appreciate it even more.
Awesome timing, seeing him live tonight!
@@kalebmusser me too!@
Enjoy!! Such an awesome show
@@switch_cave9247hyper light drifter?
YAY thank you for this!!! It’s my AOTY, been on repeat since Feb. Hope it grows on you the way it has for me.
This must mean Absolutely by Dijon is close, right?
One of my favorite albums this year. Incredible. Seen Mk.gee live in Boston a few weeks back, go see him if you haven't, amazing show.
Great video yall. It warms my heart and literally brings tears to my eyes seeing people discover this record for the first time and loving it as much as I do.
I'm obsessed with mk.gee 😮😮
Seen him in Philly in May and it was one of the greatest live experiences ever. The crowd was amazing, everyone was in a great mood, overall just a fantastic moment in time for my friends and I
Mk.gee is the most exciting artiste I discovered this year.
I'd love to hear your re-review in a few days or weeks...I heard it on my discover-mix on Spotify and I fell instantly in love with it. And now can't stop. Great review btw.
So happy y'all did this album. This albums is maaaad underrated!! DNM is my fav off that album. A lot goin on and sonically so many elements that make unique and incredible
Was waiting for this one! Happy New Years Fellas!
Dijon too his album absolutely mk.gee is his close collaborator and close co producer
the tusk fallout was awesome - mkgee is one of my favourite artists and tusk is one of my all time favourite songs hahaha - that crunchiness! also you guys doing absolutely would be a dream come true it’s one of my all time albums i remember commenting about it last year :’)
Geordie Greeps The New Sound is a MUST!!!!! Hes the vocalist of black midi incase you are unaware, but it's pretty much a new black midi album which is all I needed for 2024
So glad you guys checked this out I saw him in Austin and it was the best show i've ever seen. Something about his live element that takes it to a whole new level. Defintely check out his live videos on his youtube. Y'all are the best!
saw mkgee live in paris (with andrew aged)
Was one of the best concert experience I ever had, especially loved his new single "rockman" wich he played as the first track of the evening :D
This album is so special, I know everyone says that, but it came out at such a good time. Mk.gee is changing music, like Frank Ocean and Bon Iver in their own respective ways. I saw him live not long ago and he's a true performer at heart as well. The album cover feels like I woke up in the opening scene of Skyrim, and Mk.gee is sitting in front of me serenading me as he allows us into his psyche through this body of work, on a journey through middle earth.
Just saw him live with my sister and it was such a surreal concert. You guys have got to go see it, it adds so much depth to the album. He did play DNM 12 times throughout the show so it’s a good thing you guys liked that one lol
Man a Dijon reaction to Absolutely would be so dope! So underrated!
just saw him live this past thursday, and it was PHENOMENAL!!!! im so happy u guys reviewed him hes become my favorite artist ever
im now in college but i started listening to mk.gee my sophomore year of high school. i had only known like 3 or 4 of his older songs and had stopped keeping up with his newer releases. but i recently went to his concert in LA in september completely blind to this album and it blew me away. he is so talented and it’s so cool that he’s gettin this recognition
You guys absolutely need to listen to Jai Paul's Bait Ones -- undoubtedly an influence on this album and I think Kevin would go crazy for the production
i thought i wouldn't hear this distinct way of using the guitar after Blonde ever again but man was i pleasantly surprised when i heard this album!
Ahhh yes! This is my aoty! You JUST missed him live in Vancouver last month. He puts on such an unreal show.
+1 to all the Dijon Absolutely comments. 🙏🏻
This is the third time I'm watching this video. I personally think that the fact he intentionally included the kind of "dirty" distortion parts is really ballsy for a new artist. You get the feeling that he's so comfortable in what he's producing. I'm a regular hip hop head, favourite artists being Travis Scott, Baby Keem, Young Thug, Kid Cudi etc. so I'm very production focused. I was mind blown by this guy, haven't listened to this type of music for like 15 years but this guy really blew my mind. Such a raw talent. I don't really care about lyrics or what artists want to say, I only go by production and this is soo top tier from an impartial opinion. My top three are Alesis, Dream police, and I Want. Extra points for Dream police, unbelievable music. Just extraordinary
In many songs he creates the sort of big space sound that is somewhat reminiscent of how you sometimes describe Travis Scott, but at the same time it's not comparable. It just gives the same sonical mental feeling as Travis is capable of. Hard to describe but it gives you such a fulfilling feeling
Bro I remember responding to one of your tweets back in February or March after this album released trying to share this album. I’m so happy rn thank you for this video
You have to see him live. Bought a ticket after class and saw him small venue in New Haven. So raw, so good.
For a first listen you guys did great… it took me a few listens but now it’s my favorite right now. Ear worms like crazy 😂
loved that you listened to this!
Dijon - Absolutely, next please 🙏🏽 also, Ethel Cain’s latest one
Pet peeve is when these two talk over a part that you LOVE eg me with Alesis. The absolute strain of Mk.gee's voice to the lowering of 'leave it to me to kick the door' (22:32) agh.. I love that part sm.. Rylee & I being overlooked so simply just like that??? Shook
One of my fav albums thiis year!! So glad you all did this!!!!
was waiting for this one.
I was just put on to mkgee last week by manager and I’m obsessed it’s literally sucks coincidence you guys react to this it’s crazy
been waiting on this one!!
So happy to see this notification if you guys have a chance catch him live just did two weekends ago back to back shows day in between my favorite I’ve ever been to I gotta let it speak for itself. It’s worth the money maybe even lightly vlog it or something it’s something you don’t want to miss well worth it saw him twice for $70 and it’s unlike anything I’ve seen was 10 ft away both times
Was waiting for this
getting a video about my favorite artist as someone who loves this channel feels like a victory not many know about
my favourite album this year!
Was just at his show last night. You guys have to see it. There is so much more of a vibe to these songs live. Guitar music is still alive kids!
Rylee and I is probably my favorite song on the album lol
rylee and i being the worst and breakthespell being a favourite is highkey a crazy opinion
Dijon Absolutely is sincerely one of the best albums of the decade. There is a really cool short film of them playing it live, and Mk.gee is the lead guitarist. Super cool stuff. Also beautiful slide guitar all throughout.
Also Mk.gee has another no skip album called "Pronounced McGee" totally different sound but still super super unique and groovy.
Minneapolis last night man……… Mk.gee is a different breed performer. Had everyone smiling ear to ear and dancing whether it was us kids in the pit or the moms and dads in the balcony!!!
here to experience this album for the first time vicariously through you guys thank you for this
Every song on it , is fire for me
This has probably been mentioned before, but I really appreciated the cuts between each song that played. It saves time but allows each song to be cohesive in a way and I think that's dope. That being said, this album is beautiful. It felt different sonically, but familiar at the same time.
How many miles is my favourite track and seeing y’all enjoy it so much tickled me niceeee
i’ve been waiting for this for the longest time ever
I can’t stop watching every reaction video to this album - it’s so special
Oh my gosh I was begging for this 😅 thank you
Finally reacted to him. Yous should do some video reactions like live performances and stuff.
Ive listend to this album so many times. Watching other people appreciate it as much as I do gives me the chills all over again as if I'm listening to it for the first time again.
bro i did not expect u guys to react to this i love this album so much
I've been listening to this album as a palette cleanse between my Magdalena Bay binges after Imaginal Disk and Mk.Gee really brings a soothing, laid-back contemplative vibe that I really enjoy. On my first listen, the first two tracks reminded me a lot of the future garage sound and I wondered if he was going in the direction of Burial only to be surprised when I heard guitar and live recorded drums.
I'm excited to hear what Mk.Gee brings with future projects and maybe Kevin and Connor can listen through more of his discography and related artists 🙏
i can’t believe this video dropped the day i’m seeing him live
I saw mk.gee open for wallows in 2019! It's so fun seeing how his sound evolved over the years
Let’s go guys, can’t wait to see how you feel about this album ❤️
definitely check out the live versions of some of mkgee’s songs!
saw the "god said no" omar apollo tour this week, one of the greatest performers i've seen! would recommend
This album has impacted me in a very good way as an artist and as a person! And his live work in insanely good, he's a virtuoso that writes songs really well (And produces them!!). Very refreshing sound, looknig foward to see him live.
sometimes the day just gets better. this is one of those moments
Absolutely by Dijon is perfect if you are looking to feel more emotionally connected, so raw
okay so - i went to his concert with a friend last month in houston. i had never listened to him before, so i went in completely blind. his concert was 10/10, i was captivated. i went home and listened and his streaming versions do not do his songs even close to justice. they’re good, but i was so lucky to see him live because it was beautiful😭
i saw him in atlanta, he did DNM three times in a row and no one got tired of it, he then proceeded to play it again for the encore and we went crazy again
he also did candy twice haha
it’s an amazing album, i think it needs your full attention. no stopping, just going through and getting lost in the production and “messiness” of it all. it’s so gritty. totally recommend checking out the live youtube versions.
I was at the show in Minneapolis and he played DNM 10 times in a row and then 2 times in the encore 😭😭
