People act like Gohan regained all of his power after just one training session with Piccolo before the tournament, but really he’d been training on and off for a year at that point, and that training session was just the last push he needed to regain his ultimate form.

Well no, people act like he regained all his power in that one training session because he goes from forgetting/ignoring his ultimate form to matching SSB in that one training session. Yeah he trained on and off but at his Z power level training solo really couldn't do much if we're sticking to established scaling.

After taking a step back,….it makes sense why Gohan isn’t into fighting.
- Kidnapped at 4 years old
- Saw his fathers friends and guardian die at 5 years old
- Fatally injured TWICE around 5 or 6 while on another planet
- Saw his family friend blown up in front of him and carried his former guardian when he was half dead.
All this before the Cell Saga. Plus he just wanted to study and be a kid.

And to top it off, he had the pressure of needing to win his first-ever beam struggle against the most powerful being in the universe...with one hand. Something nobody had ever done before. The consequence for failure? Everyone dies immediately and the earth gets Namek'd.
And that perfect being had just killed his father moments ago, which marked the second time his father was killed right beside him. But at least the killer wasn't his uncle this time!

You know, it's actually more enjoyable seeing Gohan so happy as an adult. He's living the life he wants. He's got a nice family, gets to study bugs for a living (something he apparently has a passion for), but he's also pretty smart. He's considerate of the idea that he does need to keep training from time to time at least considering the threats they've always come across. I think Super Hero was more of a wake up call that he has more of a personal responsibility to keep getting stronger too to protect that life he has. He's never had to feel like his own family was in danger until the RRA "kidnapped" Pan. His attitude that the earth is safe because Goku and Vegeta are all that's needed is what ticked of Piccolo I think. It wasn't a personal responsibility to Gohan anymore until it got more personal.

Seeing Gohan get clapped in Resurrection F was hard to watch. But at least it got him back on track and made him, well quite literally, a beast.

If Gohan wasn't rusty in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, how on Earth did he not recognize Piccolo's Ki when he was right in front of him? That's like a dog not recognizing its owner's smell.

A dog's sense of smell is a bad comparison because it works whenever the dog is breathing.
Dragonball's Sixth Sense isn't purely passive
It requires focus. You have to focus on a targets ki to sense it properly. His head wasn't in the game. Goku didn't sense Frieza after the spirit bomb hit. And I don't think anyone believes that Goku slacked on his training before Namek.
@@Celtic1020 Ki sensing isn't a completely active ability. When Mecha Freeza and King Cold were heading to (or arrived on) Earth, the Dragon Team could sense them, even though most of them weren't on guard. I'm sure there are a lot more examples of this.
I find it very hard to believe that Gohan needed to raise his guard in order to feel the energies of the two people right in front of him when there was no one else around in miles.

You know it a similar formal Z had especially in the manga. Vegeta ssj, gohanand future trunks (Yes, he had ssj before gohan die in the manga) getting ssj offscreen. Goku afterlife training off screen. Gohan training was mentioned or showcased a few time like the training session between ssj gohan vs ssj goku. Last time ssj gohan appeared he got one shot by first form frieza while base goku able to handle final form frieza.
And people keep saying Beast Gohan was just a cheap power up he got out of nowhere.
Because it was. There was no reason for Gohan or Piccolo to be relevant aside from Toriyama going "I think they're neat." Going from the level he was at to supposedly the strongest of any Z fighter is an absolute asspull regardless of how much potential he has.

well he had been getting back in shape for about a yr (RoF to Zen Exhibition), trained for 2 days to reunlock SSJ2 and Ultimate (regaining his Buu Saga lvl), and then trained for a couple more hrs while in Ultimate to get to SSB level (which makes perfect sense since the Ultimate form unleashes his full potential which surpasses even Frieza).

I think the problem was that his training with Piccolo in TOP arc, made it seem like that had been the first time he had been training in years. Like he had been training since the end of ROF arc, yet he's still struggling against Piccolo. Not to mention, it was never brought up that he had been training the whole time sine the Frieza arc, you can't blame people for not knowing this. I know the manga mentioned it in the Black arc, but that was manga only and more people watch the show, plus it was a bonus page, ain't no one gonna remember that or probably didn't read it.
@@jasonone8726 Gohan was struggling against Piccolo because Piccolo had gotten stronger. base U6 arc Goku post SSG absorption, Whis training, Golden Frieza fight and 3 yrs in the time chamber with Vegeta still needed to turn Super Saiyan to fight Frost. Piccolo comes in and he's able to fight and restrain Frost, and even possibly eliminate him with the Special Beam Cannon, meaning Piccolo became stronger than base U6 arc Goku. Frost wasn't that fatigued either, since Vegeta still needed to turn SSJ to eliminate him.
Also in the anime we see Gohan show up with Piccolo to say goodbye to Trunks, and Gohan is sweating, which implies they had been training just beforehand and flew over to say goodbye. He's also in better shape during the Saiyaman mini arc than he was in RoF.

@TheKabuto90 That's inconsistenting writing. We've seen how strong Gohan gets when he doesn't train for that long of a period of time. The end of ROF to the TOP would've been like a year of training. He wasn't shown to be rusty in the manga TOP. Also, in both versions in the beginning of the TOP arc, they make it sound like he only just started training, as soon as he was recruited, not mentioning that Piccolo was already training him long before that. 😆

And that’s why gohan has always been my favorite character, everyone talks about how he is a let down like fighting has always been his thing when it hasn’t.From his introduction he was built as a character that was gonna be raised to be a scholar, he just has always had that hidden ability and surprise he became a scholar. Everyone calls him weak and lazy bc he doesn’t train as much but I think it grounds him more as a character bc it gives him more personality than just a fighter. And when he has focused what all as he done

We see him train throughout the goku black arc up till the TOP, so we know that it took him a while to regain his peak
Now surely he would keep training everynow and then to keep his ultimate form right?
Well super hero SHOWS us that he didn't as he doesn't have the ability to go ultimate off the bat
But then super hero TELLS us that he has been training
Which is it? It can't be both, actions speak louder than words and the actions (the scenes in the film) tell us that he has not been training, but then the movie tells us at the end that he has been training

Rip akira toriyama. Gohan was his passion character and hes wanted to make Gohan the main character for so long. Unfortunately due to push back from some fans but especially his editors he never got the chance to. But you can tell he still wanted to do it eventually.
I think the plot behind the training session is that after getting back to a lvl where he got his ultimate form and more something was off and couldn't get to his transformation so he went find the only person that could help pushing harder without goku and vegeta around -> picolo his mentor

Gohan strikes a hard balance in being a warrior and being a hard working father. We kinda see Goku working on that balance too, given his radish farm and all.
The thing is the show or manga became so one dimensional that any other character apart from Goku,Vegeta,whis and Beerus doesn't even exist. So they think everyone else is doing nothing and got the power out of nowhere.

The gravity rooms and time rooms are the secret to ultimate power in universe. Senszu beans and Dragonballs can take it up a notch as well.
If I had Saiyan biology, I would probably train as much as Goku. When you get the type of gains that they get as easily and as often as they get them. With the extreme results that they end up with. It would become a drug. Learning how to control key energy would be a never-ending life lesson in manipulating the Galaxy.

And Goku and Vegeta do sometimes train on earth just not all the time and they still do good on making the earth well not get destroyed or anything like that.

Gohan keeps himself on a level where he’s strong but not that strong due to his mindset. When he unleashes his Ultimate form or beats is usually when things are REALLY bad and his instincts kick in. That’s why is rare for him to go there during his life
Gohan is literally the best. His character has so much depth since he doesn’t just constantly try to fight. He’s very relatable for many people (including myself) since he tries to avoid conflict but hits hard if it means protecting his loved ones. 😊
