Well folks. That was beyond disappointing. I guess I'll be taking some time to figure out what to do from here on out. But clearly this was not good enough. Though has anything been lately? I'm sick of this.
Wouldn't it be wild if these are what's buried on Oak Island? Thanks for the great info on intaglio and cameos & all the rest. As for the whole thing: Blenheim! Why does it always come back to Blenheim?
@@JoanieBC I get that but look at my subs and then look at my non-short videos and tell me something isn't horribly wrong. Or the fact I sat in a premier with literally one other person. 😞
Had never heard of these before, and while I'm not much for the style, the treasure hunt aspect is pretty neat ...Also the thumbnail just kind of sent me, lol 😆
I enjoyed this video immensely. In one of Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles, a character has a fairly substantial cameo collection. Because of her descriptions, I started looking into them. I didn't know precious gems were used before I read that. I don't think the cameo carvers get nearly enough credit and recognition for their talent. Its not like they had well lit magnifying equipment and electrical drills with micro attachments to drill into the shells, gems, and other materials. These were created long before electricity was even an idea. I'm always amazed by the precise and realistic details they were able to achieve. Its inappropriate to mention any details that ran through my head when you mentioned Caligua. Thats a movie I can never unsee. Because I am such a weirdo, I just had to do a deep dive into the Duke. Turns out he's distantly related to not only Princess Diana, but Winston Churchill too! The more you know 🌈
Very interesting! I hadn't heard of the Marlborough collection. I'd like to have seen the sapphire ring! Hopefully the collection will be brought back together at some point.
Caligula's ring is the one you see in the video so you can at least see it that way 😄. And maybe it will be, right now people are just having fun tracking down the pieces but it'd be quite the miracle to get the institutions that have some to share 😆.
Those two broaches around 2:40 have such an unusual mix of stones - almost look like peridot, amethyst or alexandrite, and either garnet or ruby. They're beautiful though, whatever the stones
Also re the other cmt - 1800 est is kind of a weird time - if I know in advance I can try to catch the premier, but if I'm leaving work late I'm driving or getting my dogs fed unfortunately. Honestly this week has been off across the board, hopefully next week everything gets back to running smoothly

I watch a documentary on art and the experts said that a large amount of art in museums are forgeries. Makes me wonder if that is true as well with jewelry.

@mooneyfinemineral shhh. I'm just getting a chance to catch up on my videos for the day and I bet others are, too.

Glad you do!
Love this! Historic gemstones are always fascinating
Glad to hear it! 😄

Wow! I’ve never heard of this collection before! It would be wonderful if they could complete the collection one day. BTW, grats use of the Dino 😂
Pebble (which is now the name) has an important job. Hiding Cupid's giggle berries.
pretty cool seeing a ring made out of a crystal itself.
Yeah that really was a wonder and something you'd really only see on a literal Roman emperor...
Never heard of this collection, wonderful tale. I am going to have to pay more attention to the items I pick up in the second hand shops.
Mhmm! You find an Intaglio or Cameo it could be quite pricey!

@@bellablue5285Sadly it's been this way for every time I've tried over the last few months. So it's clearly me. I'm the problem.

Good question...
Mysteryyyyyyy
This is super cool. Are there any other lost gemstone collections?
Wait, let me guess - they're lost, so we don't know of them. Dangit!
There are a lot of dispersed collections but this is the one that people still get super excited for.
