Confidence is played by an unrecognisable Craig Ferguson, now more famous for his American chat shows.
Yes, he's now a bigger star then everybody else on that show.
He is! I knew he looked familiar…
@@stevencarr4002 Arnold Rimmer would disagree with that.
Nooooo way!!!
Craig Ferguson was a tad heavier back then, eh?
I don't think the BBC understood what they had with this. It was getting big figures for BBC2 and it didn't fit in with a lot of what was around. Looking back, you can see they were feeling out what they wanted to do with it. And the casting is one of those happy accidents really. Craig Charles was apparently very good on his lines, but then he did start life as a poet, appearing on TV. In fact he recently admitted he'd never really had a 'proper job' before this.
What a lot of people miss about “Red Dwarf” is that it was a funny comedy, but it had some strong philosophical points. Believe it or not, Patrick Stewart (Yes, THAT Patrick Stewart!) saw an episode of “Red Dwarf” when he was in the UK and about to get onto Paramount’s lawyer’s to sue it (because he thought it was a cheap rip off of “Star Trek”) but then a joke came on and he burst out laughing which caused him to put the phone and watch the rest of the episode. He then liked it and wished they could have inserted some of the “Red Dwarf” humour into “Star Trek”. When that documentary was broadcast, I swear I was hallucinating! But, no! It really happened! Stay classy, Miss Megan…
Holly can only sustain one hologram, unless it's really funny to have two.
actor who plays computer is norman lovett..funny standup too..
This is definitely my favourite episode from series 1, clever concept and I think Lister's confidence is one of my favourite minor characters in the show!😄😄😄
Confidence is played by Craig Ferguson! 😂
Love this episode! Craig Ferguson as Confidence is great. It's fun srreeg him in his early days before he hit it big on' 'The Drew Carey Show' and as host of 'The Late, Late Show' here in the States.
What you see here is when he was overweight and an alcoholic. In those days Craig ferguson says he was more or less drunk all the time.
I went to school with a guy who looked like the guy who played confidence
Yes but did he have Donny Osmond's blindingly white teeth too? 😎
I saw a bloke on a train once who was the spitting image of Ted Bovis from Hi-de-Hi. Same hair, same moustache, same bowtie, same suit, same accent. I wondered at the time if the creators of Hi-de-Hi got the idea for the character from seeing this bloke.
@@Poliss95 I once saw Eric Clapton coming out of Aldi carrying a big bag of compost. He threw it in the back of a rusty, beige XJS and drove off in a cloud of black smoke with the fanbelt squealing.
so cute =)
The Post Office joke has suddenly become extremely topical.
😊😊😊😊😊😊❤
Fun fact Chris Barrie (Rimmer) auditioned for Lister but got the partfor Rimmer. Hugh Laurie was considered for the part of Rimmer, in my opinion that would have worked too. Craig Charles (Lister) auditioned for Cat but got the part for Lister.
Hugh and Chris are too similar in appearance.
You need contrast and as great as they both are I couldn't see Hugh playing Rimmer whilst Chris played Lister OR the opposite because Lister is more Baldrick than Lt George, more Blackadder than Bertie Wooster.
Hugh just wouldn't work as Lister and he only works as Rimmer if Chris for some reason doesn't join the main cast.
oh man...the next one is Me Squared....hysterical
Love your reactions towards these British TV shows here Megan & hope your enjoying your Bank holiday! 💛
Thanks Falcom! Same to you 😊
Lee Cornes who plays Paranoia was one of the actors up for the roll of Rimmer. After Red Dwarf he would go on to play Mr. Hankin on the BBC children's show Grange Hill for 12 years. The second longest actor on the show.
I know him best from his guest appearances on Blackadder. He played one of the German guards in the series 2 finale (Jingle zee keys, open zee door!).
You think humans might survive another thousand years
That's cute
What makes us different from animals is we can choose I mean real choices like whether to be an artist or a pilot not will we eat, crap or clean our genitals with our tongue.
It depends on the individual person, doesn't it? Many people have vices they cannot control. I also think the vast majority of the population don't have the talent or skill to take control of their lives, and simply fall into jobs that they excell at, rather than "choosing" a career. Only a small percentage are multi-talented or lucky enough to be able to truly pick a direction for their lives go in.
@@Rocket1377 Yes but we still have the option of choice we can change our life circumstances other animals will always be restricted unless they evolve to the state we have.
