I love how people are comforting each other here, because maybe they know what it feels like and they can relate to the stories that everyone has. Whenever I see things like this, I still have hope in humanity and I hope that songs like this, will get other people to understand some things they maybe don't understand now. This is definitely me to my father. As a child, he always beat the crap out of me, singled me out, and was just an overall terror. When I was 13, he was very suddenly disabled for life and had to be stuck in a nursery home (where he is now), and everyone expected me to feel all bad for him and want him back etc but no, "maybe you shouldn't come back." I'm 20 now, and throughout all these years, I have never shed a single tear over him and his plight, because he's certainly not worth my time. I know some think that's a bit harsh, but I don't think love should be given just because someone's blood-related to you, it has to be earned, and my father was anything but a father.
agreed! blood isn't what matters, and sure maybe they deserves a little more love or patience, but there's definately a limit and abuse of any kind shouldn't be accepted! if you have say a step father who treated you like his own and a father totally different - then I know personally who I would call dad. hope all is good now x

This song touches me on so many levels.. both of my parents left me when I was about 4 years old. My dad has completely never really been around & my mom has been in & out of my life ever since I can remember but not in a good way. She’d only come home on the downfall of the drugs she would do, she’s been in and out of jail. My dad went to prison when I was maybe like 8? I can’t really remember but fast forward about 10 years from when I was 4, I went through so much without my parents. I never got shown the love or comfort that a child needs. I’ve done some pretty bad things, things that I never thought I’d do at such a young age. I grew up too fast & it sucks. I will be turning 16 in a couple of months & it amazes me how much time passes, my mother has been in prison for about 2 years now, it’s been the longest that she’s been locked up & she might be getting out soon. She says she’s changed & that she’s ready but honestly it’s just too late, she can’t just come in and out of my life when she pleases. She is the reason I grew up way faster than I should have, maybe I don’t want her to come back.. is that a bad thing? I’m sorry I just really needed to vent. It’s like 2:00 a.m. & I’m feeling really lonely and vulnerable. I hope all of you are doing fine & if you read this and ever need someone, you can always reach out to me. You have to live for you and try to be happy. If you let a sense of obligation to someone control you it becomes like a sickness and you only enable the abuser. If someone is hurting you, get away from them. They don't have the right to hurt you just because they gave birth to you. You deserve better, and you can love from a healthy distance.

this song means so much to me. my parents divorced when I was 2, and they were both alcoholics. growing up, my mother got worse and when she got really drunk she'd get really mad and take her anger out on me, sometimes hitting me. it was really hard, and I called my dad for help and he told me it was fine, he was probably too drunk to pick me up anyway. and my sister moved away when I was 6 to the other side of the country, and she was the only one who knew how bad it was. it was so hard for me for so long, until I turned 18 and moved out. basically I had to realize that I was in an abusive relationship with my mom, and decide to leave her behind. I understand what Demi is going through, having to be strong enough to leave a parent is the hardest thing I've ever done. if you can relate to this, trust me, it gets better. it doesn't last forever, be strong (:

This is me with my mom. At 9 years old my mom kicked my dad out the house she started to beat the shit out of my older brother and me. But mostly to my brother. Every small chance she got she hurted him and basically bullied him by calling him "Son of the devil" or " Anorexic". But when I turned twelve she got fed up with us and kicked us out and let us live with our dad. For a year we had to live in a one bedroom apartment but I was way better than in that hell hole. Now I am sixteen and my older brother is eighteen and he has a full scholarship to Ole Miss, a 31 on ACT and ,Battalion Commander.And I won section of the year for my band and in advanced classes now she decides to show up. And deny everything she has done. Hell no!!!! If we were still living with her we wont be part of any thing. Maybe you shouldnt come back. Sorry for being so harsh but she done alot more abused than physically

I love this song. It also made me realize that the relationship I was in made no sense anymore. Me and my little brother had to go to another country and live with our grandparents during almost 6 years . He missed so many birthdays , and then when I finally went back to him and my mom , he started always telling me how fat and worthless I am . He thinks that just because he's got a company and a lot of money he can treat me like a shit and just throw some money at me expecting me to forget all the harsh words he said towards me ... "fat legs" , "ugly" , (...) and then he still asks me why I dont answer when he offers me his helps because he sees me sad . Maybe because I just cried too much .. because I got tired of cutting my left hand everytime he insults me for dumb reasons just because i'm not as good as the girls who work at his agency who're also 18 , or things like that . This song hits so hard after a year or so I've been listening to this still. I relate so much, the fact my ex emotionally destroyed me and obviously it's also my fault for giving him that advantage. But, either way me and him had rough patches for a few years. Endless pain and tears, and all that. And for anyone who is currently in this position, know to remove people like this. I can tell you, no matter how many promises or chances taken, they will be taken for granted. This toxic person just isn't worth it. Pain is all they cause and temporary happiness. There could be a number of times of wanting someone in our life to stay, but it's just the pain is deeply engraved and gives you a thousand reasons that hardly makes you to move on and gradually gives you all the madness and to hate yourself for holding on to someone who was the one who break you in pieces as if never felt being cared before.

this song means so much to me. my parents divorced when I was 2, and they were both alcoholics. growing up, my mother got worse and when she got really drunk she'd get really mad and take her anger out on me, sometimes hitting me. it was really hard, and I called my dad for help and he told me it was fine, he was probably too drunk to pick me up anyway. and my sister moved away when I was 6 to the other side of the country, and she was the only one who knew how bad it was. it was so hard for me for so long, until I turned 18 and moved out. basically I had to realize that I was in an abusive relationship with my mom, and decide to leave her behind. I understand what Demi is going through, having to be strong enough to leave a parent is the hardest thing I've ever done. if you can relate to this, trust me, it gets better. it doesn't last forever, be strong (:

This is me with my mom. At 9 years old my mom kicked my dad out the house she started to beat the shit out of my older brother and me. But mostly to my brother. Every small chance she got she hurted him and basically bullied him by calling him "Son of the devil" or " Anorexic". But when I turned twelve she got fed up with us and kicked us out and let us live with our dad. For a year we had to live in a one bedroom apartment but I was way better than in that hell hole. Now I am sixteen and my older brother is eighteen and he has a full scholarship to Ole Miss, a 31 on ACT and ,Battalion Commander.And I won section of the year for my band and in advanced classes now she decides to show up. And deny everything she has done. Hell no!!!! If we were still living with her we wont be part of any thing. Maybe you shouldnt come back. Sorry for being so harsh but she done alot more abused than physically

My mum and my dad divorced this summer, in the worst way it could happen, and I miss my dad so much, for personal reasons we haven't seen each other in 3 weeks, this is my first Chrismas without him... The worst thing is that I have a little sister, she's 6, she is suffering, she doesn't understand what is happening at all... I sometimes feel like nothing will get better, but I know it will, hope is the last thing you lose. I am here supporting my family and you guys, the ones suffering too. I love this song. It also made me realize that the relationship I was in made no sense anymore. I had been really sad for a while, and then my songs were on suffle mode and this one came on and I just couldn't stop crying. this song is definetely for my dad . When I was a 7-year-old kid he got in problems with the police and so did my mom . Me and my little brother had to go to another country and live with our grandparents during almost 6 years . He missed so many birthdays , and then when I finally went back to him and my mom , he started always telling me how fat and worthless I am . He thinks that just because he's got a company and a lot of money he can treat me like a shit and just throw some money at me expecting me to forget all the harsh words he said towards me ... "fat legs" , "ugly" , (...) and then he still asks me why I dont answer when he offers me his helps because he sees me sad . Maybe because I just cried too much .. because I got tired of cutting my left hand everytime he insults me for dumb reasons just because i'm not as good as the girls who work at his agency who're also 18 , or things like that . Why did I came back ? why did HE came back into my life if he never really cared about pissing off the feelings of a human being who has the same blood as him running through my veins ... :'(
