Sad and frustrating story. High school. I had a crush on my (now ex)friend. I confessed, she said she loved me too. She said we could start dating. I had to go on vacation with my family for a bit after that, and in that time she never once called or texted me. When I got back home I called her, and she didn't answer. I tried calling a few more times and no one picked up. I would go to her house, and her mom said she either wasn't there or didn't want to see anyone. I wasn't sure if this was rejection or her depression making things harder for her, so I held on to some hope that she would come back while I gave her some space. A couple of months later, I found out from someone else that she was *pregnant.* Hearing that news made me sick to my stomach. It took a while for me to re evaluate and realize that she was trash and I dodged a bullet by not going out with her. Finally, I found out that she and her baby daddy's mom were smoking weed while she was pregnant and I lost the last molecule of respect I had for her. There was no way we could go back to being friends. She actually tried visiting me once after that, and I told her to get lost. She's dead to me. It gets better every year that that's farther away from me, especially since I'm no longer in high school, but I'm still disgusted at myself for thinking of her as anything more than trash. My time and love should go to someone who respects me AND respects herself. I used to wonder if her "I love you too" was a lie to make me feel better or her actual feelings at the time. But now I really don't care.
