Yeah, really diggin' the tux rash guard, I have got to get one of those. Seriously though, I see a lot of smaller guys here that simply aren't familiar with head& arm chokes. They work with any size grappler, so use them...
That is a great description of controlling a high mount! Basically she is planking on him. I never even thought to do that as a wrestler. We always focused more on using our chest for pressure and avoid getting too high up because of exactly what she describes when you're easily bucked off. Great tutorial!
This is very well explained. Her methodology of easing in to the choke makes for great effectiveness and greater chance of success. Well worth the time to watch and then get to the mat to practice it!
Everytime I watch one of Emily's video and then read the comments section, I'm always reminded how mature you need to be to train BJJ. Especially for men if your instructor is a woman. Keep it classy guys c'mon. Makin' us all look bad here :P
you don't need to be mature "especially" because your instructor is a woman. you need to NOT be an idiot. Emily would separate a lot of macho, cauliflower-eared meatheads from their numb consciousness in about 15 seconds.
one of the best ways for any beginner to learn is from a woman as special one as small and talented as her be cause 9 times out of 10 shes weaker then most men she's had to have a much greater sence of leverage and balance to maintain/succeed in most positions
Just a little tip, maybe some will find it useful: I absolutely love this choke, but I had most success finishing it from the track stance, 10th planet jj style. Definitely look it up, I really feel it's a much stronger finishing position because of more control, not letting your opponent follow you when you spin to choke. And yeah, great tip on ratcheting your arms. Big up.
Just in case you don't get an answer, I've only seen it used to open the neck to apply the choke easier. Similar to hugging the head when doing a rear-naked choke.
We just went over this choke in class with a few differences. My instructor says to bring the head up and try to place your chin over the partners eye socket. I am eager to work more on this and see of there is some difference in the minutia of the details that makes one less effective than the other or something.
Newb question, sorry: When you drop the hand on top of the forehead after ratcheting tight do you just rest that hand or would you want to kinda push the head with it like kinda cranking the neck?
Jesus, guys. Vlad, darren, andre...are those comments really your take-aways from this? It's some consolation for me to know that those of us who focused on the concepts instead of taking this to a sexual place will use what we learned to smash your misdirected asses.
true, especially if you're in their guard or they're mounting. oh and lets not forget those girls that grind up n down trying to escape your half guard! that's when my "ankle starts paining" and I have to rush to the changing room to make that boner disappear. . .
She is a really good teacher. Love her pedagogic, patience and demonstration.
She is a very patient, and clear teacher. Very good instructions.

Arguably the best instructional video I've seen on youtube. This is simply marvelous. Thank you Emily! Thank you Stephan!
Absolutely beautiful instruction. Clear, concise and sound.
love the way you carried the tutorial on while explaining to your students. thank you for the extra tips
More vids should be done like this, with the correction of the mistakes after the instruction. I found that really useful, thanks!
I absolutely love that tip about "ratcheting" the grip tighter. Great little tip that can make a big difference. Thanks for the vid!

If I ever have the money to train BJJ again, I will definitely start using this.

What armsofzeus said. I usually put the free hand on the back of my own head when finishing, it seems to apply more pressure.

Forgot to say thx for the vid we appreciate it!!!!!
She is AMAZING!!!
But what is to keep him/her from getting quarter guard on the dismount?
I think she has a high mount, so her legs are fairly at a safe distance
Brilliant!!
shes on point!!!!
The dude in the background @ 4:00 wearing the tux rash guard cracked me up.
what if your opponent follows you with there legs as you move towards there head when applying the choke
SHE IS VERY GOOD TEACHER OF BJJ LEARN VERY GOOD A YOURS STUDENTS CONGRATULATION EMILY
Is hand over your own head better for a tighter leverage and or hold
Great technique Stephan! How can I get a hold of you and emily?
She the best!

Emily is a Queen:-) Love ya!!!
Lady's full time job...
3:36 is that girl wearing a tuxedo?
Damn she's tight, and good!
Since you are trapping your own arm, isn't it really easy to get rolled with this technique?
while sprawled to the side and the person you choke flat on her/his back with one arm inside the choke? um, not likely.
true, especially if you're in their guard or they're mounting.
oh and lets not forget those girls that grind up n down trying to escape your half guard! that's when my "ankle starts paining" and I have to rush to the changing room to make that boner disappear. . .
I ASK CAN A WOMAN MOUNT AND DOMINATION ONE GUY IN GROUND
