Nice Video! I just reactivated my Nokia 2110 and 2110i today. I bought them from Ebay, luckily the battery is still ok. I also got a new SIM and after some charging they both work fine :) I will use one of them in my 'swedish brick' - (Volvo 850) with the original hands free telephone accessory
nokia 2110 is one of popular phone companies. Kinds very much! And remember that on April 3, 1973?! Big date already, on this occasion, just shot a video on your channel, invite! You have a lot of the first handsets from Motorola, always happy.
My first phone was the Nokia 2120 variant on US Cellular. It used D-AMPS/TDMA and I regretted getting it instead of a GSM phone. US Cellular's network was not great in the mid 1990s and often fell back to analog AMPS for calls and were full of static and audio breaks, a problem my GSM using friends didn't have. Once my contract was done, I switched to Sprint and stayed with them for several years. The 2120 itself was a solid phone and I really liked the design.
Heh', that was my first cellphone! My dad had at that time switched to a Motorola model so he gave me his old Nokia 2110i around 1995/1996. Had it for about a year and a half and then moved onto a Nokia 5120
Those old phones really have some kind of charm to them, the oldest one I have is just Siemens M35, but it still has that nostalgic feel :3 Also, ringtone Type 7 sounds like Ievan Polkka :D
Is it possible to get good batteries for these phones today? Would like to try get one of these phones and really use it. But belivie anyone i find will have dead batteries, or could the be still useable? Best regards
Hi! I noticed there were people asking where to get batteries earlier in this thread. Would you be able to guide me as well to right direction how to obtain a new working battery for my Nokia 6650 (year 2003) and Nokia 2110?
Got a second hand Nokia 2110i. Put in a sim card, but phone gives me a message saying "Insert SIM card". What am I doing wrong here? 🤔 And will modern SIM cards be suitable to use with this phone?
It will all depend on your mobile operator. Here in Chile, since 2010 all cellphones (old and new models) must be registered to function with all operators available on our local market (so for example, if you used a SIM card to make a call or send an SMS message before 2010 on an old phone, it will continue to operate with the assigned carrier that it has by default).
Hey, I'm really struggling on this one. what GMS band is the original 2110? i bought an "Unlocked" phone but my card still gets rejected. maybe its a different cellular band? or do i have to use a prepaid card with GSM 900?
Cool! I also have a 2110i! Sadly it only works on charge and it also doesn't want to work with my SIM, even though 2G is still very much alive here where I live :(
The 2110i was my very first mobile phone, and I got mine second-hand to boot. I was able to get the desktop charger/speaker unit and the CellularWare software for Windows.
Oh I bought mine new on contract and then went back a few months later and bought a boxed new one off contract at full price. it wasn't my first phone though.
I think this was many peoples first phone because this phone was the first mass GSM nokia phone that was widely available at a decent price. It's predecessor the nokia 2010 (see video) was alot more expensive at the time of release and wasn't widely availabe on all the providers.
thanks. Yeah the 2110i was legendary. I used one myself for about 3 years. They were rock solid and just worked. I'd still use mine if I could get a good working battery for it.
The nokia 2110i is definitely GSM 900. This will only only work in indonesia with 3 of your providers depending on service area. They are : Indosat Ooredoo (which includes the older Indosat, Satelindo and Star-One network), Telkomsel (which Include previous Telkom Flexi network) and XL Axiata in certain areas where there is GSM900 service. Please note that any of these 3 service providers may have good service in your area but just not GSM900 service so your nokia 2110i will say no service....but this just means no GSM 900 service!!! The nokia 2110i is NOT compatible with GSM 1900 (nineteen hundred). It's only compatible with GSM 900 (nine hundred).
if you want the GSM 1900 (nineteen hundred) version of the nokia 2110i then you need to get the nokia 2190.....which will ONLY work on GSM 1900 (nineteen hundred) and not GSM 900.
Well that could be anything if it's been changed. I presume you bought the phone second hand and when you put your sim in it detected a SIM change so its asking for security code??
There's a tool you can clip to the bottom of the phone that will remove the service restriction. alternatively you can calculate the unlock code with a calculator.
You could do a video about overall how you feel about old vintage phones, how they are raising in prices lately and what models you think could be the biggest classics of these bricks in next 10 years, etc. Also what is the newest phone you would feature on this channel? I'm craving for a 2110i in that wood grain finish but all I can find are private sellers from around the world. I guess if they can show proof that it still works it's worth buying? Any tips for what to look for when purchasing these so you don't get a literal brick lol. :D
Well I don't need to make a video about how I feel about these old vintage cellphones....the fact I've been collecting for over 20 years and been making videos about them for two and half years kinda should speak for itself!! There's certain phones which are more sought after than others but this is dependant on where you are in the world. For example single band GSM 900 phones are common in europe but really rare in Japan where people pay a premium. the same is true for other phones elsewhere. The 2110i is really common. One of Nokia's very popular older GSM900 phones of which they sold loads of. Getting a wood finish one might be a little harder but they do come up. I was offered one by a guy in finland about 2 months ago and turned him down becuase I already have about 4 wood finish ones. You can never tell if they will power on without a photo of the phone on. Just make sure the battery contacts are not corroded. The 2110i is pretty well built. I've never come accross one that doesn't power on if its in good condition.
well I need one that still stands the test of time, that can still work for 4-5 days. I don't know if any company makes new ones. But any help would be good, your offer is very generous!
Well I have one that still holds charge but it's not for sale. You'll be extremely lucky to find one off the shelf that still holds a charge after 22 or 23 years. Your best bet is to have an extended one made for you by the german people who make bespoke batteries. Email me directly.
You might want to try the people in germany who build bespoke batteries to specification. They are probably your best bet. Email me directly for details.
yes there are actually people who still use these simple phones today. Alot of places in Africa bought all the old stock from europe and they refurbish the older phones and sell them cheap because in Africa people can't afford new 700 dollar iphones or s7 samsung galaxy phones.
5110's are still quite common in africa. a alot of taxi drivers use them because the car kit for the 5110 was also compatible with the 61xx range of phones as well as the 7110.
Hello :) I'm a fellow (not only brick) phones collector. What were you actually doing at that time, travelling that much nad having even custom phone made, with that many different phones at around same years 1994/95/96? I see you had a bunch of those, US, UK, Germany, Russia...
+Matt Gorzka actually I get about 5 days of standby on my samsung active galaxy phone if I don't use it much and switch of wifi and GPS etc. I have a samsung 1150 which has a standby time of about 20 days but that is without wifi, 3G, 4G LTE, GPS or any other features.
Well the networks don't support the use of these but there is no reason why you can't still use them especially if you don't want to be using a smartphone for privacy reasons.
There's also the fact your country has used GSM networks since the early days. Where I lived we had many systems going on, TDMA, CDMA, and finally GSM eventually caught on and became the standard, that was already 3g era though.
Nokia Museum website says that the OG 2110 was announced in early 1993 with 2110i following in 1994. It might be incorrect though. But it’s surely known that 2110i was around in 1995 already, I had one in my collection with the software dated to 07-04-95.
The charger does not work - its been kept in outstanding condition - there is a chance it can work. I also have an NEC phone from a couple of years later than this Nokia but - who likes NEC...
It's so amazing to see an unboxing of old technology that is unused. Just like it was bought yesterday
All I knew before this video was that this was the phone that introduced what we now know as the Nokia tune.
This mobile phone is so classic.

I had this phone in 1998, they were really expensive when they came out!
they dont build phones to last anymore and the touch screens i hate so damn much
I still have 2110, working perfectly.

My 2nd ever phone- my OG one is the bulky 1610 and replaced it with 2210 . Ahh college memories .

Also, ringtone Type 7 sounds like Ievan Polkka :D
Oh I love the old phones......why do you think I have a collection!!! LOL :-)
I don't know Levan Polkka. Who is that?
It's a Finnish folk song, it was pretty popular a few years ago :D
well that would make sense because nokia is from Finland!!!
@@BrickCellphones Ievan*
It's Säkkijärven polkka :DDD

The phone that my mom had in 1994-95 for CellularOne here in the States looked just like this one!
+Vincent D Probably had the 2120 or 2160 if you were on Cellularone.
2160 sounds right... I probably have the battery or charger to it somewhere... somewhere.
Does the particular kind of nokia phone need the battery in order to power on when plugged into the wall?

I saw in the service manual of a nokia 1610 that you can build a vibrating battery for this phone and the manual shows how.
where can i buy 1
Wow! That's so cool!

this phone is on my list of phone collection after StarTACs great review by the way

Did anybody ever find out where to get a new battery for the 2110? I’ve got three of them and all three battery’s are dead
Only repacking with new elements, such as AAA ni-mh. New Original batteries are dead after ~30 years even without using.)
i got problem with security code i got same nokia but i need type security code..

whats the difference between a 2190 and a 2190e
I'm not too sure without looking at both phones and seeing the menu. I guess the E version is just enhanced somehow.
mm i found a 2190 and its sprint so i hope it isnt locked trying to use tmobile
usually 2190's are locked.

Nokia 2110i (1994)
TechRax's grandparents use this phone. His sister is Anna and she lives in Ukraine with her grabdparents.
One of the oldest Brick,s.
certainly one of Nokias older GSM phones. Check out the video about the Nokia 2010 which is older than the 2110.
actually its 1996. the original is from 94

Do you have the right charger and is the battery still in working condition?
The charger does not work - its been kept in outstanding condition - there is a chance it can work. I also have an NEC phone from a couple of years later than this Nokia but - who likes NEC...
the best way to find out is to get it tested with a multimeter. you'll know if there is power at the plug end of the charger.
