the term used for black beard's trash effect in yugioh(and i think in magic too) is a floodgate style effect, either way i like all the leaders except lum!

At least for me, these last 3 leaders feel like peak card design. I hope they release all op09 leaders with effects as interesting as these.
I do like Lim because it's a lead that can attack with a strong ability, even if with a drawback.
Btw RPlaw can't do much if he has no way to recover dons, bcs then he can't use ability unless he draws blackmaria

I honestly really like king as a leader. I went a different direction with the deck where my main big bodies are the jack, 9 mom, and 10 cost kuzan. They can get rid of everything with leader effect and I like that package more than the standard black package cuz it uses the leader ability better.
This makes a lot of sense why theyvd been printing more on play/when attacking effects on characters since eb01. Because of blackbeard.
blackbeard looks crazy. he will probably make good use of 4c kuzan/3c brook combination. he can also use Meteor Volcano, the 2c KO event. unfortunately though, he can’t use Sabo, which maybe they’ll print a similar protection card for him. another card pool i can think of is the black straw hats. between on play negation and cost boosting, he could be a huge menace for black decks
Black Beard feels like they know where they messed up in design and just gave a blanket to cover up the mistake. I do like the idea of running a plus cost deck to keep my guys alive in a slower pace game though. Might be looking into this one.

Honestly as an RP Law player i can see blackbeard completely messing us up because essentially he removes our ability to ramp. We would need to completely change the deck to solely depend zorojuro and black maria to ramp and kid and pudding to stabilize our Don management
Very excited for this tho because it’s a lore accurate battle for blackbeard to be throwing the game off balance

Sanji might be really good, it’s the first leader that can have a character attack on first turn if you go on draw if u have 2 cost sanji
Hopefully, like we talked about in Discord, it will come down to how they want to interpret ruling 6-5-6-1

My 2 big concerns with Blackbeard are card draw and card quality. How are you refilling your hand after using your leader ability without On Play cards? How many good "Activate", "When Attacking", or "Don time X" cards will be available?
100% agreed, it will all depend on the support he gets.
When more cards are revelaed for the leader you will get your answer. I think the leader will be self contained to bb pirates which is awesome
Does D.Teach also completely shut down the 5 cost Carrot effect? It´s an On play/When Attacking effect. It IS the same ability.
Good question, I do not believe so. If I'm not mistaken, it will only be able to shut down an Effect that is trying to resolve On Play. So, if you used Blackbeards ability and then you play out the 5c Carrot it will stop the Effect, but if you had another Carrot on the board at the same time that Attacks, that Effect should resolve.
EDIT: Once they release the Q&A for that set, I'm sure it will answer this question definitively

It's a good question, I'm not 100% sure about it, he might have wanted to keep him from filling up his trash this early on countering out to fuel Lucci.
Hmmm, I think laboon, 4c kuzan, and a 3c brook would be very nice to be added into Blackbeard.

Yeah Teach is going to hurt so many decks even green decks, funny the good counter to black is a black leader lol. RP law will be hurt for sure but us law players will pivot easily, there are still cards that can draw you cards outside of on play and who knows what else will get printed in purple or red that will draw cards. The ramp is no problem. Sanji is going to be a wild leader to play against. Im sure Im the only one that thinks he should be the first prerelease banned leader lol

Yes, if you trash a card to activate his effect and then your opponent tries to play Sabo, the On Play will not go off. However, it does not turn off effects that have already activated/resolved from the previous turns.

sabo would still be a blocker, but wouldnt draw 2 trash 2 and would not protect anything im p sure
