- Native to Canada, but can be found today throughout Northern America, ranging between Nova Scotia to Florida and South Dakota to Texas.Habitat: Open areas with flowers, near woodland edges where hostplants grow. Caterpillar host plants: leaves of grape vines, and Virginia Creeper. Adults take nectar on flowers and fly during the day.Adults emerge in early spring and lay eggs on hostplant in May and June; one generation per year in the north, or two in the south; overwinters as a pupa in the soil or in crevices of old wood
