Todd played at our church tonight and absolutely blew the house down. I'm a former music major and violinist, have played all 9 Beethoven symphonies at least once each; I'm also a retired country and country/rock fiddle and guitar player, used to work out of Vegas and Reno back in the late 70s/early 80s. Todd is easily one of the greatest musicians I've ever heard, just spectacular. We're hoping he comes back to our church to bless us again.
Thanks! 1st harp is a Db with the 7 draw tuned down a half step. 2nd harp is an F#, standard tuning. Both harps will have the altered 7 draw tuning on the album version. Hope this helps!
@@jashonlucius4244 Not sure exactly which effect you're referring to, but I listened to a LOT of Terry McMillan when I was growing up, so I assume you're hearing his influence, which includes a lot of throat vibrato. Terry was the best.
Todd Parrott is exactly what I want to sound like and aspire to become. I’ve been playing for close to 30 years off and on but this last year I finally started taking it more serious to further my skill set due to people like this who have inspired me
I have had the honor and pleasure to listen to Todd right up close at the Sacred Grounds Coffeehouse in Durham, NC a few times and talked to him briefly and Todd is an orchestra, a literal symphony on the harmonica ! It is ASTOUNDING to watch and listen to him play !!! He can do anything on his large collection of harmonicas. God Bless You Todd and I am looking forward to seeing you again tomorrow night at Sacred Grounds. We all love you there ! ~~~ Chuck S :-)
Thank you for sharing.. I think so far the most beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace on harmonica. Hopefully Todd will play more gospel songs these days..
The more I listen the greater my excitement becomes for mine to arrive! Starting out with the pro pack of hohner sp20 progressives c/g/a. Will be a joy to learn! Ive been looking for a way back since i put down the trombone and euphonium. Tried the bass guitar but it didnt grab my soul like I want. Thx for sharing your talent with the world!
He does have some "how to" info in the site and you will find links to his RUclips page. I have seen him live now 3 times and continue find him the most skillful harp player I know. This video was captured at the Hill Country Blues Harmonica 2012 festival in Mississippi this year. He had the audience in awe.
Wow this is amazing ! Really good !!! I am just now hearing it and just now appreciating the sound of the Harmonica. He is really good. I know this Video is old but want you to know that there people still listening to it and appreciating it.
May God continue to bless you with this wonderful grace 'm from Brazil and one day would love to watch him playing with that passion , I apologize if you did not understand me , because I can not speak English, much peace , Marcão
I can play a pretty good 2nd position amazing grace, but good grief that guy blends everything so well...I've never even heard a better version, and I'm not convinced one exists.
WOW I've heard alott of harmonica players play this song, but it kinda bugs me when the playing is based on there performance,, ie talent, you have made my heart happy my friend thank you for a awesome job of yes talent, but leaving the message of amazing grace intact, Thank you, thank you, thank you,
Cindy, Todd often uses country tuned harmonicas with the 7 draw tuned down a half step. Country tuned means tuning the 5 draw up a half step. He also plays overblown notes as needed. Check his RUclips channel and website for more info and be sure and buy his recently released CD. ruclips.net/user/AceOfHarpsvideos
Great performance for a beautiful song Todd. Could you please tell me which Key of harmonica are you playing and of what brand? That will really help me. Thanks
Donald, Todd share the following in the Facebook group Gospel Harmonica Community. These were the keys he used on all the songs from this album Songs from the Harp. I suspect the version of Amazing Grace you see here used the sam backing track he developed, so this should be accurate for this recording I made of him playing Amazing Grace. Sunday Soup
I can mimic most players out there. I can play along to almost everything. I can’t touch Todd’s style. I can play tricky stuff I have a hard time playing along to Todd. It’s one thing hitting the notes. But his tone and inflections are sooo unique. I can play along to popper easier than Todd.
Most Gospel players use any diatonic harmonica. Todd favors Golden Melody harmonicas from Hohner and often they are country tuned. You can learn more on his website and be sure to purchase his new CD! toddparrott.com/Harmonica___Links.html
Keith Mitchell I just checked his website and Facebook page and could not find out what I’m asking. I see he tunes his harps 7 hole down but I’m curious about what two harps these are. Anyway you can just tell me?
He responded to this query for someone else below: 1st harp is a Db with the 7 draw tuned down a half step. 2nd harp is an F#, standard tuning. On the version he recorded on his album he also had both harps using the retuned 7 draw.
Keith Mitchell thanks Keith! Sorry for being such a pest ha. I appreciate you posting this video. Easily one of the best harmonica performances I’ve ever seen. LOVE Parrot’s style.
any song can be shifted to another key, but some of what Todd does takes advantage of a few reeds beeing re-tuned from a standard Richter tuning. You might want to join the Gospel Harmonica Community on facebook where we have interviews with Todd about this and other songs.
Follow Todd on his website: www.toddparrott.com I believe the following is accurate for this version of Amazing Grace: Db, F# both with flat 7 draw tuning on his site he explains the function of the 7draw retuned reed. If you love Gospel harp, join us on Facebook at the Gospel Harmonica Community
