    We've had our 1997 Flagstaff pop up for 15 years. We've had great adventures in it, and have never regretted getting it. Lots of room, light weight towing.

    On our 3rd pop up. 2021 Rockwood 1940LTD. A/C, heat, water pump. Electric lift, solar, best campers so far. Started out with with a 1972 where you had to left each corner up and set the arm. Crazy where they come since then.

      It most definitely is crazy how things have advanced - so much so that they are now coming out with super basic pop up lines - no 120v electrical, no ac, no heat, no water - literally a pop up tent bed and table with 12v lights!

    I purchased a Coleman Sun Valley in 1996. Pulled it all over the country with an Astro Van and later a Suburban. Great trailer, great memories, and good experiences. My kids have the trailer now. New canvas and mattresses and some TLC and it is making more memories 27 years on. I just purchased my "last RV", a Rockwood Mini-Lite. More memories to come.

      Thanks. Hope to do a combined adventure this summer. My grandkids are old enough to remember and our son (their uncle) is still young enough at age 11 to have fun with the nieces. All three older kids are Luther College in Deborah IA graduates. Deborah has a very nice municipal campground on the edge of town.@@rvgearandfar

    Thanks for this great video. We had 3 popups over the span of 21 years before moving on to a baby toy hauler. Our first night in a popup it rained so hard the storm chased everyone else in the campground without a solid roof over their heads out of the park. What you said about maintenance is true, I scrubbed the canvas at the beginning of the season and at the end. I missed the popup any time I was setting up or taking down the tag along trailer. Wrestling motorcycles up and down ramps has gotten to be a bit much for my 70 year old self. We now have a new-to-us 1995 Chevy G30 van based Coachmen rear bath Class B. I'll be bringing along my electric bicycle as a substitute. With a 10,000 Lb. tow capacity on the van I could bring along a popup just for old-times sake.

    We have a 2019 coleman clipper popup camper. We need a new upper door that's not connecting to the base doors. Tips for where we can order one? Thanks so much.

    • @rvgearandfar
      @rvgearandfar  10 месяцев назад +1

      Bummer to hear about your door. My best advice is to jump onto facebook and type in "pop up camper" and join a few of those groups - there is bound to be someone who's had a similar issue that can offer repair suggestions or a place to purchase said parts - I personally haven't had this issue to offer any direct advice though.

    is it always necessary to un hitch from vehicle, to set up? even if you can only set up one side fully. (say, to park at a Walmart for a night, to sleep)

    • @rvgearandfar
      @rvgearandfar  9 месяцев назад +1

      I think that would depend on your specific pop up- if you can access everything you need without fully setting up and without hitching up. Remember to definitely put down all your stabilizers even if you're still hitched to the vehicle if you'll be in it overnight.

    I upgraded from a popup to a travel trailer last year. I love the new trailer but I miss the windows in the slide out beds. It really felt like you were sleeping outside in the popup, now not so much.

    My folks had a Coleman pop up camper when I was a kid.
    While it had all kinds of windows for "air flow," when there's no breeze, the temperature is in the upper 70s/low 80s, and about a million percent humidity at night, there's no way you're getting any meaningful sleep. 😂

    • @rvgearandfar

  • @atgirl

    My husband and I are avid tent campers I want to move in to getting a pop-app but I can't convince him of the advantages he said it's just an expensive glorified tent we don't need the water or the bathrooms we would just camp at a campground that already has that so what other advantages would this have over just buying a tent

    • @rvgearandfar
      @rvgearandfar  7 месяцев назад +3

      On some levels he is absolutely correct - it is just a glorified tent. But with those upgrades you get legit mattresses, the possibility of air conditioning which may or may not be important depending on where and when you camp. One of the big advantages over car camping is being able to have everything stocked and ready to go - you just hitch up and head out on an adventure without having to load much into the tow vehicle for the event. If you find yourself in inclement weather or swarmed by bugs at night having a table inside allows you to eat or play games in a screened in and sheltered space. Happy Camping!
