Thanks for highlighting these two mics. RUclips likely sent me your video because of my previous views of the R0DE NT-USB Mini content. Sub'd. Recently replaced a Blue Yeti with a Rode NT-USB Mini (my second now). First time I really started to play with the R0DE Connect software. Underrated as hell. I'm finally beginning to appreciate how well it works with their mics and offloads work from OBS and post (DaVinci). I had NO idea the R0DE VideoMic GO even existed. Great solution that I can use on my camera and my overhead boom. edit: Just read your bio so I will add" Vielen dank!"
This was a well thought out video that was executed properly with a wealth of information to help anyone choose which microphone they might want to purchase. I personally went with the Rode NT-USB Mini and I absolutely love it! Great video! #BEYOND2021VISION 👀
"Broad Reach" is the name for around 4 or 5 o'clock direction (you face 12 o'clock), or around 7 or 8 on the other side too. It refers to the direction the sails would be facing when sailing with the wind coming from 12 o'clock. Subtitles say "Broadway", which would actually be cooler. Cool little thing I learned from the video, along with the helpful mic and Connect information, thanks!
Thank you very much for the review. I was just looking for exactly that comparison since I want to buy one as an zoom call microphone. I feel like the Go II is able to display much more emotion in the voice and is therefore the choice for me. With a 192000hz headphone, your voice is much easier to comprehend on the Go II and has an overall more authentic and natural sound in my opinion - which is exactly what I need in sales calls and meetings with clients.
Thanks and I’m happy that the video has helped you decide. You also might be interested to know that I haven’t done any post-processing on the audio (apart from what you saw me switching on in Røde Connect and loudness normalizing for RUclips) so what you’ve heard in your headphones is what you’re going to get, ie with room reflections bleeding in. I tend to agree with your choice especially because the Noise Gate in Røde Connect would actually help your audio even further and the Exciter does a really good job in adding clarity to one’s voice. Have fun with the Go II!
One thing to note: the NT-USB mini picks up a lot of echo because it's designed for a controlled environment, while the VideoMic Go II picks up fewer frequencies from the environment, focusing on the point where it's aimed. The frequencies projected by lip movement and salivation will be much more important. On the other hand, without such a controlled environment, the first microphone can be inconvenient because of its exaggerated bass. In that sense, I opted for the VideoMic Go II, since it allows you to save a lot of money on acoustic conditioning if you're just starting out, as well as allowing portability, placing it out of the shotgun, among other things. I don't really know how their internal workings work, I assume they have a built-in audio card that equalizes their sound sources and in the meantime serves to transform the audio to decent digital quality. The truth is that I got used to, video after video, having better feelings with shotgun microphones than with studio or podcast microphones. What do you think?
Just new to the things and wanted to know, if the VideoMic Go 2 might be a good voice microphone on your desk to the side or on top of your monitor (on a boom). I dont like to have a microphone directly in my face but a 45° angle and 20-30cm away from my mouth would not interfere that much with my view and mouse arm. What would be a setup and would this be an option or should I go with a dynamic mic of to the side. I am wondering, if the rode or a dynamic mic would pick up more? The rode seems sensitive and probably cannot get it out of the keyboard direction. Sorry, but its not for the best streamer setup specifically, but for having a good solution for discord/teamspeak and perhaps some recordings. I am torn: I use a headphone....and went with lav mic before and I dont know if stepping up the game with such a thing would be practical. I dont want it in my view, I dont want it to pick up crazy amounts of keyboard sound. I heard of this here, I heard of dynamics (some cheap fifine options dont sound that bad) and I heard about unidirectional laveliers? Anyone has a tipp? Shouldnt be much more than a 100-150€ solution tbh.
I haven‘t tried the NT-USB+ and the Sennheiser Profile. Based on what I‘ve seen/heard and the fact that the NT-USB+ works with Røde Connect where you can adjust its voice processing and record it, I would probably go for that. The Sennheiser Profile is said to be really good as well. It’s also cheaper, but does not work with Røde Connect.
THANKS ! But rode connect is so good? Some say it's quite limited. (I'm French so I don't understand everything in the video) I was rather hesitating between the senheiser and the mini, the plus is little bit expensive
@@francoisguillon4766 No, you don’t have the Aphex Big Bottom and the Aphex Aural Exiter in Garageband, on tge other hand you can dial in compression and noise gate better there.
@@francoisguillon4766 Rode Connect is fantastic as podcast recording software as it can record in multitrack and has built-in mix-minus for 2 remote guests. But if you just want to do voiceovers then Garageband is just fine and you can add processing on post-production, rather than “baking it in” while recording. So it depends on what you need. By the way, Tom Buck has a great comparison of the NT-USB+ vs the Sennheiser Profile in case you haven’t found it yet.
Question - if I enable some effects & settings on windows using the RØDE Connect software. Will it be carried over to other devices, like my PS5 or iPad. @@PodcastMeister thanks for reply. Just an idea,in case u have a rode mic. u can test by changing setting in windows n using the mic on ur iphone or ipad. that might help.
Sure, but the trouble is that I still will not be able to confirm it, I can only judge by my ears - which is not really a scientific proof. But what I will eventually do is to change settings in windows then have a look at how they look like on a Mac.

How about videomic NTG using Rode Connect? Better than Go 2?
why does video go II have so much noise in the back and the other one doesn't?
Подскажите, что лучше для записи звука портативных колонок на улице и дома: RODE VideoMic GO II или
Shure MV88+? Эти девайсы сравнимы?
What’s the slight hissing noise from the go2 and how do you reduce that ?
Wrong the mini nob is you can press in to mute the mic
I hear a slight noise when Go II is on during the video. I am not sure if its related to settings.
A noise gate might help: it easily picks up environmental noise.
For Zoom calls/discord/mumble live chats, which of the 2 mics would you recommend?
Depends on the room you'll use with it, it is quite noisy I will use the USB Mini, if noise is not an issue I'll go with the Go 2
