      Fun fact,every Nasi Lemak,from different state of Malaysia,has different taste,to their sambal
      The spicyness goes up in the southern part of malaysia,while the sweetness goes up in the northen part of malaysia,
      and while I rarely taste,the borneo part of malaysia,most of my friends said it has a bitter taste to their sambal

    Great video! My dad's older brother raised his family in Malaysia so I spent a month there when I was in high school. When I came back, I had my whole family eating roti canai lol. You won't find that exact dish in India, but rather it was adapted by the Indian community of Malaysia!

    • @FoodandFootprints
      @FoodandFootprints  4 года назад +1

      Thank you, Sue! Cool to learn about you spending a month in Malaysia - must have been amazing!
      We love the diversity of Malaysia and how it is reflected in the cuisine. Remember reading about the Indian connection with the Roti Canai, since Canai is pronounced like Chennai - very interesting!

    • @Rapture77
      @Rapture77 4 года назад

      Not accurate. Its from India. In Singapore its called roti prata derived from Bharata which means India in Sanskrit. Roti is also an Indian word for bread.

    • @suem.1392
      @suem.1392 4 года назад +6

      @@Rapture77 I believe it is accurate. That dish is an adapted version of Indian cuisine. See roti canai on wikipedia where it is considered a variation of porotta but does not exist in India. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roti_canaien.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roti_canai

    • @muhammadjamil3720
      @muhammadjamil3720 4 года назад

      Sue M. It is not accurate. I don’t know if the food even connected to Chennai but it is originated from India. The word Roti means bread while the word Canai is a verb of how the dough is made. Canai is a Malay verb.

    • @Rapture77
      @Rapture77 4 года назад

      Roti prata (prata meaning India) in the West Indies which have Indian origin communities and cuisine. The same roti canai in Singapore is also called roti prata. Chickpea flour is used.

    Yooo guys! Malaysian food what a treat. Man it looks cold in NYC while you guys filmed this hahaha. Kopi Tiam looks like they are keeping everything traditional from the porcelain cups of kopi to the kaya. Eh I never had the dish from the 2nd spot before needa try that looks like an awesome lil dessert crepe. Didn't catch the name? but the pandan and the peanuts look delicious. Yan tau fu is pretty good but that nasi lemak is where its at! One of my favourites especially if you can get the coconut rice right. Man ya'll eating good this episode. The assam laksa is a nice tangy alternative to regular laksa. Smokey Mackerel goes so well with it.

    • @FoodandFootprints
      @FoodandFootprints  4 года назад

      Yesss we were so excited to make this one! It was cold and windy that day, but that’s winter in NYC.
      Yeah! Cool to know they are keeping it traditional with the cups. Can’t wait to hit up some traditional kopitiam in Malaysia.
      That was apam balik at the second spot. Enjoyed that peanut flavor!
      That curry mee broth was next level, but definitely loved the nasi lemak too.
      That smoky mackerel does work so perfectly in the Assam laksa. We love all of those great flavors together in that bowl. We definitely ate good in this one!

      Another suggestion - have her follow @themalaysianproject on Instagram. In normal times, they make their own version of Ramly burger at the Queens Night Market and other pop-ups. But recently, they’ve been making different weekly specials to order for delivery, like nasi lemak and ayam masak merah.
