🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
00:00 🏃 The Asics Superblast has been impressive from a performance standpoint, suggesting potential changes for future running shoes.
00:28 🛠️ The Superblast's unique design, particularly its combination of two types of foam (FF Turbo and FF Blast Plus), sets it apart.
01:10 ⚖️ The two foams in the Superblast are lightweight, complementary, and work better together than other brands' foam combinations.
02:22 🌟 The unique mix of the two foams in the Superblast provides a distinct feel and performance.
02:49 🎨 Another standout design feature of the Superblast is the molded midsole and sculpted sidewalls, providing stability.
03:41 🔍 The shoe's foam stack isn't its defining feature; its combination of foams and design is.
04:38 🎯 Asics aimed for the Superblast to be a performance trainer without a plate, complementing their other offerings.
05:33 🌐 The Superblast is versatile, suitable for various types of running without compromising performance.
06:02 🤔 The future of the Superblast is uncertain, but its success might lead to a sequel.
07:36 💡 The idea of a "Metablast" or "Metaspeed Blast" is proposed as a future evolution.
08:34 📉 The "Meta Speed Edge" might be phased out, leaving room for new iterations.
12:29 🌍 On a macro level, the industry might be moving towards the end of the "Super Shoe" era, indicating a shift in running shoe tech.
15:26 🔄 Asics' Superblast may represent the next step in the evolution of running shoes.
16:21 🔄 All brands, influenced by Nike, might lean towards non-plated super shoes in the future.
17:56 📈 Nike's potential return to the "Turbo" line could further push the industry towards this direction.
18:37 🔮 In a few years, we might see a significant change in running shoe technology, with non-plated super shoes being a transition point.

Coherent and informative opinion, thank you. I’ve got 250 km’s in my Superblast, and I gradually became unhappy with similar shoes in my rotation like the Triumph 20 and the Novablast 3. Slowly but surely I became aware that the other shoes didn’t became bad, but in comparison with the Superblast they fall short. By a lot. Running in the Superblast makes me smile on long runs, slow runs, tempo runs, it does it all. And very well too. At this time I use Puma’s Deviate Nitro Elite for sprint work and the rest is covered by the Superblast.

There already is a shoe being marketed in Japan by ASICS called the S4 (abbreviation for sub 4) which is a marathon shoe for the masses. Think taking the Superblast and extending the concept to this shoe.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  Год назад +1

The S4 is essentially a slightly updated Magic Speed 2, with a full length carbon plate (similar geometry to the Edge/Magic Speed) and FFTurbo above the plate and FlyteFoam under it with a wider last for a wider fit (something JDM running shoes typically have) and a wider heel.
Basically, it is a shoe that would be popular in the west (as a "stability" CP racer), but would be very confused with the Magic Speed 3 and create another problem like they have with the Edge and Sky already.
They do sometimes appear here in Taiwan, where I live, but next time I'm in Japan I'll pick up a pair and do a video on them. They have become the modern day mythical "Takumi Sen/Ren" for runningshoenerds.
I have heard that it could possibly see a global release this fall. We shall see.
Much different shoe over the "Metaspeed Blast" concept. But it does show Asics has no issue creating niche shoes even if it guts another shoe in the range (the S4 all but killed the Magic Speed 3 in Japan, it's around but not as popular as in the west). It also shows they don't mind fine-tuning and exploring ideas either.

Ya, it’s likely a good shoe for that from a structure POV. Though I must say the one gripe I have about the Superblast is the top and center of the heel counter and how it irritates my Achilles with blisters. However, the majority of Asics shoes do that to me so I figure is a Asics design feature more now than anything. 🤣
Once we know more about the Turbo Next Nature 2 or Turbo 3 I’ll go into that much more. I have covered it a little bit in some of my earliest video, especially the one about the Streakfly being the actual Turbo 3 AND the 48min one I did about the history of the Nike a Pegasus form 2017-2023.

They are much better than my Prime X since they are lighter, more stable and they have perfect foam so you don't miss carbon plate at all. I wouldnt be suprised if they had originally planned to put FF Turbo into the Novablast and were using the Superblast as a test bed before people cried about them killing their favorite shoe. Hency why they didnt plan a superblast 2, because if well recieved, the successor would be Novablast 4.
Now they've got the Cumulus, Novablast and Nimbus all as daily trainers with FFBlast+. Saturating your own market.

We have now seen the Novablast 4. We know all the detail on it from leaks. It’s essentially morphed into the nimbus 25 silhouette with a novablast midsole, rounded heel and a Superblast outsole. Still all FDBlast+ and firmly planted as a daily trainer it seems.
The Superblast is all together something else now. I really feel like they need to name it something else to make it more distinct form the NB, which it has evolved away from.

The disappointing thing about Asics Superblast & Superblast 2 is that they are just about impossible to get hold of. Asics doesn't seem to produce enough of them to meet the demand. I wonder if this is a marketing strategy🤔 Perhaps keeping them in short supply pushes runners into other shoes like the Novablast. C'mon Asics produce more of the Superblast especially in regions/ Countries other than the US. 😥

I have fear to use the pegasus 40 'cause is too "racing" for long run and the invincible is unstable for me; so i'm so indecided: buy the Superblast at 154€ (lowest price here in Italy) or wait for Vomero 17 ( vomero 16 is firm) or maybe...maybe use the Alphafly...any suggest?

    • @SagasuRunning

Depends. If you want a do-it-all performance training to prepare for a half… then it’s the Superblast 100%. The Invincible 3 would be my second choice, though the Superblast is considerably more stable and better suited to race training. The Invincible 3 can do it but it’s also a bit more of a cushioned daily trainer too. The Vomero 17 looks to me a full fledge cushioned daily trainer. Good for general running but not any type of training.
I would do some of your long runs in whatever should you plan to race in.
The Pegasus is totally fine for easy to long runs… I often them those in Pegs… no issues. In fact I’m really enjoying swapping between the Superblast and the Peg 40 for that type of running. Though for any long tempo running I use the Superblast unless I need a plated shoe.

For riding a bike in flat pedals the SL is going to be a good choice as Lightstrike is very durable. When you do run in them there is a sliver of feel from the puck of the Lightstrike Pro in the forefoot. The SL is t a sexy shoe, but it’s very good.

Having a single shoe for all workouts is one thing but doing all of them flawlessly is another. and it's impossible for mechanically. Every runner has their own gait and that changes with the pace we run along with other elements such as the surface we run on, elevation etc. To give a personal example, I changed my fitness training for just 2 weeks and my running technique changed significantly I started putting less force on my 2nd 3rd right foot metatarsal which led me to change my running shoe rotation.
Also for some reason, I can't run in asics shoes especially, in their daily trainers. Novablast was the worst shoe I've ever experienced in a long time. I tried running slow in Superblast, I tried steady run, up tempo everything but shoe always worked against me. There is something with their midsole geometry disrupts my flow for some reason. I agree that we will see big changes in the industry coming from big brands like Nike and Adidas.

Now the idea of “one shoe to rule them all” is not 100% realistic. Training in a single shoe is a recipe for disaster and injury… but the idea of it is intriguing and the Superblast would fit that for most. More importantly I think the idea is the shoe is capable of doing anything, not that you should only use it.
