@2:03 - "Am I to believe that Samsung executives are unaware of all development and R&D?" Bizarrely, yes! Samsung Group is a sprawling conglomerate and this executive that scolded TM Roh for these recent designs oversees a portfolio of relatively unrelated branches of the company. TM Roh is the top head of Mobile within Samsung Electronics (a 'sub company' of Samsung Group) - so absurd as it sounds, it's conceivable that the reporting Samsung Group executives receive from the Samsung Electronics mobile division head doesn't specifically highlight their design directions or roadmap, and they (Lee Jay-Yong) essentially just trust that the high level leaders steering the ship of this sub-company (TM Roh in this case) are pointed in the right direction.
Yes, they don't just compete with Apple. They also compete with TSMC for logic chips, with the likes of Micron and SKHynix for memory chips, with LG for displays, then they have stuff like vacuum cleaners, washing machines and stuff like that.
When Tim Cook talks about his style of leadership, he always talks about the importance of collaboration and teamwork between the different teams - when the executive, design, software, and hardware teams collaborate with one another and spend time together, they create better experiences and products for the consumer. Everyone in the tech world knows about Apple Events. Tim Cook is at the front of the entire presentation like Steve Jobs was. Not only did these executives know about the products they unveiled to the public, they were proud of them because they put their heart and soul into the development of new iPhones, iPads, Macs or Apple Watches like their teams did. Everyone worked on these products from the bottom up. It is evident that Samsung, as a company, does not promote or practice collaboration and teamwork. If they did, this would not have happened and Samsung could create even better products in the process.
True, but even if they worked hard, their sales never surpassed the 10% of Apple sales (20-30million flagship sales while Apple selling 200-240million of $1000 phones per year), so they just want more sales, and their method wasn't enough for that..
