Thanks for making this video! It’s definitely a throwback that got me feeling nostalgic. My favorite flash game was stick rpg. Pretty simple but was oddly fun
this is a nice overview of the history of flash, but I feel like it misses a lot of big flash games like celeste and johnny upgrade (but to be fair, I don't think you could cover all of those without this becoming like 300 hours long)
Trying to remember some of my favourite flash games outside of Age of War, those being: Warfare 1917, Endless War: Defense, Shift Heads, Stick Defense, Feudalism, Pandemic (which would become Plague Inc on Steam). There's probably stuff I've forgotten about by now.
Pretty much the classics I do remember this game that was a stick figure rpg probably the actual name of it where you can just get a loan from a bank and it wouldnt do anything.
Excellent video reviewing the history of Flash games. I feel like it was only missing proper blame on Apple for the death of Flash. Back in 2007, when the first iPhone was released, Apple was vocal about not supporting Flash. When Android came out a year later (the same year Chrome came out with support for Flash built-in), Apple was even more vocal about not supporting Flash for security reasons and because it would draw too much power on a mobile device. As iPhones took off and had the most marketshare for years, the use of Flash was on a steep decline. Especially after Apple started supporting HTML 5 saying that it could essentially do all the same things that Flash could do (us Flash gamers know that's not true). I was deep into tech news back then, actually reporting on it, and the war between Apple iPhone and Adobe Flash was one of the most talked about things among software developers. And when Android released with Flash support, it actually proved many of Apple's claims but that was also in part due to the first few versions of Android was inferior iPhone OS (not yet called iOS). Google developed Android for other manufacturers to make phones with (like how Microsoft makes Windows but doesn't really make PCs). It was after Google was fed up with low quality products, not made by Samsung, that Google decided to show the market what a good Android phone could be. Google would argue that Flash could run on a mobile device easily if hardware manufacturers just used better hardware, but it wouldn't matter because the market was already adopting more energy efficient programs. My favorite thing on Newgrounds was watching the animations. The music video for Ass and Titties, the Flash series The Matrix Has You, and many more. Unless it was Age of Wonder people would play the dating sim Flash games in class while I'd watched the animated stuff.
Thank you for the kind comment and wow from sounds of it I overlooked a detail that I should've added into the video thank you. I do think flash would've been very useful but its earlier implications didn't really go to well as it was in such an early stage of it not looking up to a good enough standard as well as Android just not being on the same level as Apple in the early stages of its development. I never watched much Flash animation on Newgrounds but a ton on RUclips. Mainly played Newgrounds for the games with skullkid being a memorable one.
Flash has been one of the key things in my childhood with how simple the games look and how fun they can be with such a simple premise. I still go back to play some games on Newgrounds.

Yeah there's way too many big flash games to cover so I picked a few from different periods
