  • India's new 255 km all-weather motorable DSDBO road connects Ladakh to the strategically situated DBO, Daulat Beg Oldie, the world's highest advanced landing ground, ALG, at 16,614 ft located at Sub-Sector North or SSN, just kilometres away from the base of Karakoram Pass. The Darbuk-Shyok-DBO road effectively blunts China's military ambitions. #DBO #DSDBO #daulatbegoldi #galwan

Panikkar and krishnamenon were suppressing the truth to Nehru about the impending 62 chinese intrusion.Nehru already had a blind eye to Chinese evils designs of intrusion. And when the intrusion took place, for whatever reason, Nehru did not order for a serious fightback so as to properly tackle the intrusion and therefore, the situation was let loose. This resulted in the loss of a great extent of our land apart from Tibet (.incl.of Lhasa)etc., to China.,(even though Tibet wanted to come under the umbrella of Indian govt.) Despite this ,India could be saved to a great extent because of the Mighty God and our valiant soldiers of our Army,
Who were all along ill equipped amidst severe adversities. However, our present govt.has the strength, guts ,potential and willingness to fight the enemies and to thrash them away.

I'm glad I googled this after visiting the airport almost by accident (I just look at trade routes) in microsoft Flight simulator. It's strange that smaller military transporters can't normally go but I can with my turboprop (rated 30,000ft, but easily cruising at FL220). I went through half of Nepal airports, very bush-like conditions and in Kashmere I find large airstrips.
If anyone knows more detail I only go by airspaces defined in SkyVector. These regional airports (Daulat, Thoise, Leh) are not labelled military at all they are in non controlled airspace, not restricted. although military zones can be found in the region especially in the contested border "Tartar".
The scenery is stunning and the terrain climb is uncanny. Bring oxygen!

silk route is a myth to peddle supposed chinese prominence in ancient economic trade routes but china was never as much a silk producer as ancient india which always had a much larger population and production of silk based textiles.......most of the ancient trade was maritime not overland which is why most of the prosperous cities were in the indian ocean region not the remote central asian steppes where population density was much less and the terrain was far too difficult and caravans were no match to ancient trade ships which were more dominated by indian indonesian arab persian ships to europe...........the indian ocean climate of year round warmth as opposed to frigid cold central asia meant the volume of trade in the steppes was a fraction of the real silk or rather spice maritime route

The construction of DSDBO road and activation of DBO air field is very crucial in defending eastern ladakh from further chinese intrusion...but the occupied aksai chin is a lost cause to india...it is very difficult for india to reclaim back lost territories from china.

    Thanks for the brilliant presentation.
It was all because we kept quiet (& mum) when neighbours intruded, captured and established their governance over these areas. Saying, "not a blade of grass grows there" shows lack of strategic sense in Indian political leadership of that day. If one wants to be charitable to them, one can say that India was a poor country after independence with Defence preparedness, getting last priority in budget (defence) funds allocation. Yet, Pakistan that was equally poor attacked India, occupying a good half of three-fourths (India retained equal area), while equally poor PRC occupied a quarter in the state's NE. I'd say it is sheer lack of Will & timidity to face an adversary in the battle field. It isn't to belittle the fighting prowess of Indian fighting forces who didn't get the needed nod from the civilian leadership. Looks like the Civilian leadership forgot the role of Armed forces. Army even made its own decisions in the matter of holding lands, that shouldn't have happened if the civilian leadership maintained a non-discordant note. Civilian leadership hardly ever looked at maps, that is where China scored over India. It is the quality of the political leadership that failed India. Civilian leadership was worried only about giving the least share of budget to Defence, as it isn't a viable (return on invested money), unlike in other sectors of Economy.
Happy & hope that the country learnt the needed strategic lessons, at last.
