Nice wrap up Ian! Our Aussie plugs don't have fuses, or as much brass as your big chunky ones... so probably less likely to be viable. I did a video ages ago with leaving the plugs in the hot sun and it did certainly help but it was still hard on the hands! I am still saving plugs with the hope of discovering a better way! Happy new year!

    Another brilliant video there Ian.
Nice to see in your kitchen other than the copper salt and pepper shakers the copper fruit bowl and copper topped bread bin lol hope your rum worked on the shoulder, I can sympathise I currently have a bad back.
Looking forward now to getting on with my plug soup and getting all that lovely brass. Defo worth doing at 95p more per KG. I know you said it took you a long time but let’s not forget you did probably 100’s if plugs in that time, to do the 13 I doubt it took that long.
    Thanks for the video.

Interesting tekkers Mr M, I like the plug soup idea, another thing I've tried is letting them have a good sunbathe in the summer, the plastic softens nicely too that way, but generally I use two pair of five holds ( one set to hold the plug, the other to twist the pin) and pull the buggers apart. a bit like you were doing after their hot bath ! As for the awkward brass bit left in the lids, I attack that with a sharp pair of side cutters, like you I've not found a better way yet but it works pretty well, keep up the good work mate, and a Happy New year to you and yours !

You're pulling prongs on an industrial scale, so maybe the "soup" technique is good for you. I might work at a dozen at a time, so I just heat the prongs with a lighter, (or a quick pass with a propane torch), and the prongs and the wire, pull right out. It is simplicity itself. Maybe this winter a candle will be lit in the house for heat and light and would work the same way! The whole 'soup' thing is just too much effort for the scale I work at. (I know this video goes back a while, but I'm still catching up...)
We don't typically have fuses in our plugs in the States, nowhere near as complicated. But your plugs are chunkier. And brass is brass!
