Their is so much to bee considered before sitting down at the piano. From bench possition to posture and dynamics and body movements. If you lean into the music with your expression then you are going to feel like you are flying. Their have been times beeings that I have been playing the piano all my life I feel sometimes like I am going to fly off of the bench. I feel so free, and it shows when I am playing. Breathing really does have a huge part in playing the piano. You would not think that breathing at all has anything to do what so ever with playing the piano but yes it does. If you are seated correctly and breathing properly you can feel like you are 1 dancing because of the connection that you have with your instrument, or 2. You feel like you are flying because you are free and don’t have anything to hold you back. Including the bench. Haha!! I have had people ask me after performances why I move to the music and it is because I am not moving because of a weird habbit I tell people but it is the correct way to move when you are playing piano. You, and I both know that pianists have to move correctly on the bench and their are certain movements that you have to make to get to both of the registers of the keyboard. A lot of people don’t realize that and they think that you should when you are playing just move your fingers a bit but piano playing like i have expressed to a lot of people is with really your whole body. They are amazed when I tell them this. I say “yes.” It is not because of some weird habbit or anything like that. When you are able to move, and bee free, then you are able to express what you want to. Like you said. It is like talking and body language but you are not moving your lips. You are talking in another way. When we are talking and beeing social we have body language to express, well, when we are making music and playing the piano, we are using body language and talking but in another form. Pretty amazing, and yes. I am with you all the way!! People just need to bee educated I think a little more on how a pianist plays.
That is so true coming from a fellow musician. I think that sometimes, when people go, and sit at the piano they just play to play. Well, for sure piano playing is so much more than just pulling out the bench, and playing. I think that if people really start thinking about their posture and the way they move at the piano, they really can then get into their dynamics. Piano playing is an equivalent to a full body work out. The things that go on behind it all is really impressive, and I can feel that beeings that I play piano for a living. Outstanding video Lisa, and keep it coming.
