They aren't going to suit up and waste their time to appease a bunch of people who just want to see them on their favorite RUclips show. I for one would rather have him spending his extra time enjoying himself because he's a person who works hard and yes probably makes enough to make myself enjoying my life look like stepping in a literal pile of shit. As someone who lives very much further south than Andrew, I was extremely confused when he said he couldn't find tortillas at the store. I actually thought he was gonna bust into a joke like, "Just kidding I wanted an excuse to make them from scratch." Even if the world was ending I think I could find a tortilla at the closest store haha
i live in michigan, which is like as north as the US gets, and tortillas are super easy and common to find in stores, no idea whats up where andrew is
@@jay-mp1rb I’m guessing looking at the date of this video it’s because due to the pandemic, people were mass buying a lot of stuff. Some areas hit harder than others. I remember going to stores and seeing empty shelves.

I know this is a year late, but it truly depends on what stores he was going to. I know the stores I was shopping at here in MI, it was either tortillas or pasta or toilet paper and paper towels that were gone from the shelves and panicked employees/managers not knowing when things will be restocked.

@@stevenshea990 Ughh, their organic is one of the few things from the grocery store I can have due to allergies and I have the big time jealous. It has been a nightmare trying to track it down. It has been interesting to see what people horde though. Hives or no. It has popped up on their website and vitacost, but you gotta keep an eye on it and be quick. Makes you wonder how many of them are going to end up with sacks of expired flour they're never going to use.

I used this recipe just for the shredded chicken and guacamole (to accompany quesadillas). It turned out awesome. I'm part Mexican and I grew up eating spicy stuff, believe me the sauce for the chicken definitely needs those extra tomatoes! Thanks for posting a link to the recipe, in the caption!

Ive worked at various restaurants, everyone uses Kosher Salt, very rarely will you see restaurants use Iodized salt.
We order packs in the dozens of kosher salt, it goes in everything. I dont know the reasoning behind it but what I do know is since the grains are coarse its harder to over salt something in comparison with iodized salt. Maybe it cheaper, who knows
Who knows why babbish uses nothing but kosher salt but I dont understand why its a meme to people.
You wanna know what is a meme, when you go out to eat sushi and the wasabi you get a 99.99% of restaurants isnt real wasabi. It comes in a big bag as a powder and we just add warm water to get it to its playdough like substance.
Something else you might find interesting is iodine is necessary and kosher has zero of it. Its like pink salt is useless.
Oh yeah, and no one uses "glue" to hold chimichangas together, I cringed and i know babbish is going for visual presentation but chimichangas are held together with toothpicks.

I started making babish's dishes and yeesh he does all this extra stuff I always use the slightly less work option like for the chimichangas I added the regular powder and yeesh it worked so good loved it

Few improvements I would recommend as someone well acquainted with real deal, New Mexican chimichangas:
For the chicken, one whole chicken roasted and pulled would be better. The combo of light and dark meats makes a much moister and more flavorful chimi.
For the sauce, if you're making it with chicken you should use green chile. Starting with a rue, add chopped green chile, onion, and garlic with some dried oregano and fresh cracked black pepper. Add some chicken stock. Reduce until it begins to thicken and then toss in the pulled chicken and let it continue to thicken and coat the chicken. Then just wrap up with some cheddar and oaxaca.
Chicken pairs much better with the brightness of green chile than it does with the sweet/bitter/chocolatey flavor profile of red chiles.

Ancho chilis tend to run a bit on the "my mouth loves this, my stomach is going to stage a revolt" hot for me. I tend to mix Ancho and Guajillo peppers as the later give a smoky/earthy flavor and not a lot of heat.
Also, there's a difference between Sweet Mexican oregano and boring Greek oregano. The later being what is usually sold as "oregano" in the spice aisle. Mexican oregano is always labeled as such.
The plug at the end was so smooth.
I'm confused as to why this is a Basics and not a Binging
Because it's not the recipe/improvement of a recipe from a specific show or movie

Andrew Brannen. Maybe Because this is actually super easy. I just made it for supper. The only complaint i had is that it was very, very bland. I am from Texas, so i am naturally a season freak, but it was obviously still very good. I did have to improvise. I really dare you to try it. It truly is very easy if you know what to do. I am a cook myself, but for a beginner, this is very easy anyways

This stuff drives me nuts. Like, BREAD is a "basics of cooking". Chimchanga is an "extremely specific dish that doesnt particularly teach you anything about cooking other than how to make JUST THIS"
