This is simply a superb daily wearer, I have over the years enjoyed many good watches including two seamasters, a planet ocean, Tudor chronograph, 39mm Explorer and XL Santos de Cartier which is my current dressy sports watch.
Since I bought the 453 nearly two months ago, the Cartier has been permanently relegated to the winder. The Seiko is perfectly proportioned for my wrist size and is all day comfortable to wear. I like the sleekness of the skin diver style case, and with the date at 4.30 it looks to all intents like a no date as the date window is tiny and the disc is black underneath.
Other positives are the legibility, excellent lume and the fact it's a discreet wear and won't attract much attention. I have tried it on the Zuludiver waffle strap which is excellent but the watch is now back on the bracelet. Even the much criticised bracelet is actually very good with a nice drape and doesn't pinch any skin or hair. The clasp could be better, but it still feels absolutely secure, which is important.
Mine is running just a few seconds a day out, I don't even bother checking anymore as the accuracy is more than acceptable for a watch of this price. I am now looking at buying another Seiko, probably a Willard style case with an 8L35 movement which appears to be near GS quality. The Cartier will in all liklihood get sold in the very near future as its getting absolutely zero wear time.

Been wearing this watch for about 2 months now and it’s consistently been about +0.2 seconds a day. Very happy with the performance, looks… pretty much everything! Highly recommend!

I own the SPB143 and thinking about getting this one to replace it. It's what I wanted the SPB143 to be: a classic Seiko diver with black dial that goes with everything, with a more ergonomic clasp and bracelet and smaller dimensions. Granted, it's a rather incremental improvement, but probably still noticeable. I would have LOVED it in a 39mm and slightly slimmer case. And no diving extension, by far my main gripe with the otherwise decent bracelet.
I think the DIA shield coating is underrated, my SPB143 looks mint after 3 years of daily wear and I haven't been babying this watch at all.
    Enjoy yours!

I used to have 143 but sold it long time ago due to several reasons. I recently got this 453 and personally consider it an upgrade over the previous generation in all respects. Might be personal, but I def. recommend it. I got it at huge discount though (smbd flipped it right after purchase; it’s basically a new watch), and full retail is def. crazy for what it is (same was the case for the 143).

@@nikitaandriyashin7343 thanks so much for the info. Could you expand a bit on the reasons why you sold your 143 and why the new one is a definite upgrade? I'm currently on the fence on whether it's really worth the switch

@@ovemanSure. 143 was slightly large for my liking (this one is perfect), slightly heavy (this one is lighter and feels lighter), slightly too thick both in case and bracelet (this one much more comfy). I also prefer the shorter L2L, black dial (previous one looked as if grey is a washed out black due to lack of AR in many situations), matte bezel insert (previous one, while being steel, played in light too much for my liking). I also love the new date position (disappears most of the time, but is there when you need it; I much prefer the full 3hr marker on 453). I couldn't care less about '3 days' text that most ppl hating on, and in my experience, the new movement is more stable (I had early sample of v1 dial 143, and it was disaster in terms of movement stability even after 3 full movement rebuilds by the Seiko service). And at like 35% off (shipped), it was a steal.

@@nikitaandriyashin7343 Wow, amazing insights, thanks again for taking the time to reply. Those are like 90% my own gripes I have with the 143, but I just didn't think the very small reductions in size/weight (on paper) of the 453 would make this much of a difference. When I bought the 143 it was the perfect size for me, but I've come to like smaller, more wearable watches in the meantime. I thought about getting a Sinn 556i since it's thinner than the 143, but decided to stick to Seiko for one reason. I hate babying a watch but I also hate scratches and scuffs and that DIA shield coating just seems like magic. So I will probably get the 453 after all, it's the best compromise and ticks most of the boxes.

I am not 100% sure it was the exact one, but my father gave me one that looked like that when I was in highschool and it was the best wristwatch I've ever had, haven't been able to find one that could take its place after mine got destroyed in an accident
