Finally someone did a review 😄 The P39 is a long term goal for me. The SPB453 is much more attainable at this point in my life. I’ve always thought if I got the Seiko now and the P39 later, would either watch would be redundant in the collection?
The 39 is my daily, note: titanium scratches and I’m not careful with my watches; besides metal however the ceramic really works well, I knock on stuff many times that’ll destroy metal rings, barely left a mark on ceramic; 39 also is very light on wrist for all day actions; the micro adjustments is very nice, very few times I had to take it off during the day.
As an SPB455 owner I would say my biggest gripe is how poor the AR coating is on the watch, and how cloudy/occluded it can look from certain angles. Lots of shots in this vid highlight the problem. Also, they've recessed the crown into the case slightly vs my previous gen SPB253. Whilst this is ostensibly an improvement, it does make it slightly harder to screw/unscrew the crown (it's not a daily wearer). Accuracy is very erratic depending on mainspring torque, which is annoying and a bugbear they still haven't fixed on the 6R mvmts all these years later. The date window is so small as to be largely pointless now. Why even bother? The bracelet is better and I've managed to get a very comfy fit on mine, but the divers ext is still god awful and needs to go. You also have to push very hard to get the clasp to engage the pinion. On the upside, it's a very comfy daily wearer, everything is well aligned, bezel and dial are nicely finished, diashield gives it a smokier / titanium look, and we now get a 3y warranty in the UK. It's a decent toolish diver for £1.4k considering all the retail and marketing overhead they have. I wouldn't consider a Tudor at 3x the price something I'd want to wear doing DIY or high diving, good though it no doubt is.
You didn't explicitly mention it but it's clear as day from this video: The Pelagos, being made of soft titanium, gets scratched to all hell, whereas the Seiko, with its ceramic coating on top of steel, is much harder to scratch and thus will actually look much better if you actually wear your watches a lot. That's a major point to the Seiko for me. I don't like scratching my watches up (even ignoring that it looks bad, it's taking value off them should you ever sell them), and with these soft titanium watches I feel like I have to be super careful all the time I'm wearing them, which defeats the tool purpose of them.
I have the P39 and it has nowhere near the number of scratches the one in video has, it's actually pristine after 2 years of ownership. The owner of watch in the video must work as a bricklayer, how on earth do you get so many scratches.
This is like a comparison between one watch and its budget friendly alternative. Curious to see how the new Marinemaster, specifically the SJE101, would compare against this Tudor.
Both look nice but no on-the-fly adjustment for a £1200 watch is a joke and a deal breaker for me since I use the T-fit quite often during the day. Even microbrands that cost £200 nowadays have sliding adjustments in the clasps.
Good video. When you zoom in closer and you see the difference in finishing quality and just overall appearance between these two, this is where the Seiko just doesn't work for me. Tudor's finishing is league's ahead of Seiko and for me personally, it is a hard pill to swallow for $1k for a clearly subpar watch, when I could save an extra 2-3 months and spent $5k to get the objectively better product.
I would even dear to say that my SPB143 - the predecessor of the SPB453 - has better finishing. But I find the "bare" lume indices on the Tudor a bit "plasticky".
@@meindertsprang7491 wtf have you even looked at the case finishing of the 453. its way better than the pelagos. the cuts and angles with sharp mirror polishing are leagues better,
I had a Tudor North Flag and a Seiko watch. After five years, the movement on the Tudor watch stem became stiff. However, my Seiko watch has had no problems after five years.
Look the Tudor probably has better everything than the Seiko right. However its totally Fugly imho whereas the Seiko looks amazing. Id take the Seiko any day of the week cause it looks the business.
I always said a smaller Pelagos would be my perfect watch, but the 21mm lug width, no date, and other slight downgrades to the original 'irked' me, I'd say the 39 Pelagos is effectivley more a titanium version of the BB58, and for that reason, I'd probably just go for the Tudor BB58 Blue instead. The Seiko in blue is nice, though the shade is hard to judge through a screen, but ultimately it's a slight downgrade to the Tudor, so if you can, or need to wait a little longer, definitely opt for the Tudor!!
I have the Pelagos and a SPB143 and really like both. My gripe with the Seiko is the clasp. It's freakin awful. They need to lose the diver's extension.
What year did you buy the pelagos 39? Im curious if you have experienced the dim lume on the hands compared to the dial furniture? I was hoping tudor would find a solution for this after ut aas Discovered when it was first released
I've got 320$ watches & I've got 12,000$ watches, when u get right down to it there's not 11680$ difference between my Citizens eco dive & my Omega silver snoopy. Do I cherish it more yes but they do the same basic thing. One has a chronograph the other has crazy good loom.
i own the spb453, after wearing it for a week, im listing it for sale, it's just uncomfortable to wear... the new bb monochrome will be a more interesting comparison to 453
Great video. Really insightful. For you, the Pelagos sits nicer on wrist and looks better. I prefer the Seiko, a little more character, for my 7.5” wrist. I wear a Seiko mod similar to this on a tropical strap: ruclips.net/user/shortsFxE3_1ptTNo?si=xufakOJZW9K05Foi
You dont have to watch. The titel say what he compare, so why click on it? When you are more into comparisons between stones and wood than click on such videos and be happy...
The little bit of red from the pelagos is nice

Probably, but with watches...They're like Pokémon. I want them all. But thats unrealistic for me😢

Good comparison but the P39 is the clear winner.

I'd never wear a 5k$ watch to work, its like you're car,if you really take care of it you won't get scratches for the most part.
SPB453 bezel is aluminum, not ceramic.

I just bought a watch with one and do find useful but over last 30 years lived without it with watches fitting fine.
@@msk3905same here. Virtually never change the fitting of my bracelet.
I like to have the adjustment, but it usually results in a longer clasp, which is a big no-no for my 6 inch wrist.
SEIKO IS JUST MORE HANDSOME❤😊😅
a comment from someone who can't afford a real watch like Tudor LOL
I HAVE BOTH❤

Tudor is overall a better watch, but the difference is not much considering tudor is 4x more expensive.

Have you tried reversing it mine was unbearable before digging in wrist reversed it and perfect now 👌
Bought an Uncle Seiko for it and it's great.
SEIKO ALL DAY.
The expensive Tudor titanium is already all scratched up!

@@robertwilliams1286 2023. I think it may be due to the amount of lume on the hands versus the hour markers, but I'm not 100% sure.

Well said 👌I realised that recently will more expensive watches get anxiety about losing getting stolen or damaged etc.
The 6R movement in the Seiko is an immediate deal breaker. So is the clasp.
titanium pelagos WIN
If they don’t have on the fly tfit adjustment I wouldn’t buy them. I need it due to working outside. I have the Pelagos date that has it all.
The Tudor is a chronometer 🤷♂️
And the Seiko tells the time. Now what?
state of the collection 2024?

Seiko has better looks and legibility.
Lovely watches
My Seiko 5 ($80) keeps better time than my SPB145 ($1200)
I love my prospex, but the movement needs to be better. Its flawed.
Seiko.
Good god get those watches off the ground !!! 🤣

Why uncomfortable. Too heavy?
You can buy a 3rd party bracelet if thats the one bothering you
"6R55" cannot keep time accurately.
LOL They have different lugs shape..
Compare the accuracy on the wrist. Seiko movements are garbage. I have the SPB 143 and it’s all over the place
Agree - I had to release my seiko slim turtle 🗑️
LMAO, the two shouldn't even be in the same room together. You kidding me, Seiko compared to Tudor?
Yep, Seiko is a true giant, compared to that hommage brand.
@@tomislavm2873 Maybe Grand Seiko. But a Swiss to a Japanese. Not in this lifetime lol
I wear my seiko Alpinist as much if not more than my explorer. Seikos are awesome
I wear a Seiko diver. I have many. I use them as beater watches.
Seiko do watches at all price points. The SLA079 can go blow to blow with the Tudor and is still $2000 cheaper
6R55 movement? no thank you
