Just to be clear, the true unification of Korea only happened during the Goryeo dynasty in 918. But it wasn't nearly as exciting as the Silla's war.

Hey so happy you made a video on the Korean wars of unification (7th century)! The later three kingdom wars (890s~936 AD) with Later Goguryeo & Goryeo, Later Baekje, and Silla was pretty epic though, it would be the only Korean equivalent of three kingdoms China or warring states (sengoku jidai) Japan. The rivalry between Wang Geon of Goryeo and Gyeon Hwon of Later Baekje is pretty epic. I guess it's the Korean equivalent of Sima Yi (Wang Geon) of Wei (his sons later establishing Jin) and Sun Quan (Gyeon Hwon) of Wu.

Korean TV series is specially used to create fake history (and culture) and brainwashing humans.
South Korean historical dramas copy Chinese historical dramas by wearing clothes and headdresses that never appeared in Korea history. Many years ago, your Korean drama crew started to go to China to buy props that the Chinese crew did not want and shoot TV series in Chinese city Hengdian. Now there are even cultural relics of China's Han Dynasty in the Korean TV series. Koreans even copied the whole Hengdian, but Hengdian is all Chinese style architecture, totally different from ancient Chinese architecture (ex: Gyeongbok palace景福宮) in today korea. Nnot only copy Chinese architecture, but also copy Chinese interior decoration.
Chinese elements always appear in Korean TV dramas, such as ancient paintings, food, clothing, especially traditional clothes. Korean people often pretend to be the clothes and hairstyles of ancient Chinese people. Koreans have gone crazy, incorporate a lot of Chinese elements into TV dramas and claim that they are Korean. Koreans always give them barren history breast enhancement, just as Koreans are good at plastic surgery.
Ancient Koreans are "White clothes Ethnic白衣民族" . There are clear records in history. Do you not love korean ancestors? Why do the Koreans do not wear white clothes and expose their nipples now (real hanbok) ??? This is the characteristics and traditional culture of Korean traditional clothing.

I like this video. This was a topic in one of my East Asian Studies course, namely "Why Silla succeeded?" I had, among my many points that included geography and naval superiority, had also emphasized the diplomatic skill of the Sila princes as being vital. Everybody else focused on one point, either the hwarangs or geography. Its good to see that tactful diplomacy is given its due here. We tend to forget that not only wars aren't the only means of sorting out conflicts in politics (even in antiquity) but wars are also determined not only by military manoeuvres but also by political and diplomatic craft.

    Adding few informations here:
    1) Goguryeo was renamed to Goryeo during Jansu's reign, which the name was succeeded by later Goryeo & Balhae (Balhae self-claimed as Goryeo, but was not able to use the name on diplomacy as everyone saw Silla as the successor state of Goryeo).
    2) The correct name for Jumong is Chumo (鄒牟). Jumong is name given by Chinese dynasties and Samguk Sagi referenced Chinese information.
    3) Baekje was also renamed to Southern Buyeo in 538.
    4) 668 is the year when Goryeo central government collapsed. The war continues with remaining forces later joined with Silla.
And this video is probably the most accurate map of the war ruclips.net/video/BDytfNElbnY/видео.html

      2) Baekje was called Southern Buyeo only in in the reign of King Seong. It reverted back to Baekje after his death.
      3) Once the was with T'ang was over, Goguryeo remnants were given territory in the north of Silla to rule, but they revolted and Silla put down their rebellion. Afterwards, the Goguryeo remnants were moved to the south and given Silla names and titles.

The name of Korea comes from Goguryeo (BC 37 or 3rd century - AD 668), the name of which had been later changed by its king into Goryeo, or/and Goguryeo was sometimes called Goryeo, even before Silla unified three kingdoms(Goguryeo, Baekje[BC 18 - AD 660], smaller Silla[BC 57-AD 676]). Some rulers of Goguryeo founded Balhae after the fall of Goguryeo, claiming it to be a successor of Goguryeo.
Goguryeo or the "first" Goryeo originated from Buyeo, and Buyeo was founded at the place of Go-Joseon. "Old" Joseon or Go-Joseon was the first Korean kingdom and its name was just "Joseon" at its time, but for distinguishing from "later"/"Yi" Joseon, it is now called "Go(=old)-Joseon". Baekje came from the royal family of Goguryeo.
When greater/unified Silla (AD 676 - 935) weakened later, "new" Goryeo replaced the unified Silla, claiming that the new royal court succeeded "old" Goryeo (i.e., Goguryeo). "New" Goryeo (AD 918-1392) was a trade country where even muslim merchants came for businesses from the Middle East and its name was known to foreign countries as "Core", "Corea", and current "Korea" etc.
"Yi" Joseon (1392-1897)replaced "new" Goryeo, with the same name of the "old" Joseon kingdom.
Sum: Go("old")-Joseon->Buyeo->three kingdoms->greater Silla (+ Balhae in the North, which also claimed to succeed the fallen Goguryeo, but when Balhae fell later, its rulers were accepted by "new" Goryeo)-> "new" Goryeo -> "Yi" Joseon or just Joseon -> 20th century history of colonialism(1910-1945), provisional government (1919-45), division into north/south Koreas(1945-), Korean republic-building, north/south (1948-), and war in 1950-3, and now.

In the ancient Korea (Chaoxian朝鮮 , Real historical name). It was two different ethnic groups.
1.Chinese (Han Ethnic)(Wear color and pattern clothes) - Ruler and nobleman
      2. Korean (White Clothes Ethnic)( Wear white clothes without pattern) - Civilians and slaves
      1. Ruler and nobleman (Goguryeo , Baekje, Silla , Goryeo, Joseon=Chaoxian朝鮮 ..):
Chinese local officials and nobles (royal members, monks, scholars, soldiers, architects, technicians, and their families ...). They are Chinese (Han) and their descendants born in the local area. They have always wore China in China costumes. They speak Chinese language (official and Han dialect) and Chinese characters. They are Chinese officials and represent the Chinese emperor's governance of the ancient Korean Peninsula (朝鮮).
Local Chinese officials (Chaoxian king朝鮮王) and Chinese nobles in ancient Korea (Chaoxian 朝鮮-Chinese territory). They all Chinese clothes (hanfu), headdress (hat and crown), silk cloth (including embroidery), soldiers (such as: defensive clothing, horses). Weapons (including cannons), Chinese literature books (including Chinese history, Taoism Buddhism), Chinese special architectural materials (including palaces and design paintings). Food materials (Chinese food and Chinese royal food), wooden wheels used, large military ships, etc. are made from other cities in China).
Among them, the Chinese royal's (Chaoxian king /officials and nobles) Hanfu comes from Chinese han clothes, opera clothing, and hat crown headwear. Therefore, the fabric on the clothes is high -level. There are a large number of Chinese official dragon patterns and various traditional Chinese patterns (including Chinese characters) on the clothes.
      2. Civilians and slaves (Goryeo, Joseon=Chaoxian朝鮮 ..only appeared in history after the 13th century):
Civilians and slaves are indigenous Koreans (White Clothes Ethnic白衣民族). They speak Korean language. Long -term banned learning and use of Chinese characters 漢字(except a few descendants of mixed with Chinese people).
Korean people cannot use any pattern of Chinese imperial power. 龍dragon and 鳯phoenix. In ancient times, this was a beheading and destroyer.
      * Chinese patterns and Dragon's totem represents the symbol of the ancient Chinese and Chinese power. Korean people cannot use any pattern of Chinese imperial power. 龍dragon and 鳯phoenix. Only the Chinese royal family and senior officers can use it. If the "White clothes Ethnic 白衣民族" (today's ancestors of Koreans) use the pattern of dragon and use Chinese characters. They will destroy the tribe and beheaded.
Korean characters韓字 are text used by slaves. Ancient Korean can only use Korean characters (after the 15th century. Chinese officials - Chaoxian king and Chinese scholars who settled on the Chaoxian朝鮮 . Chinese officials use Chinese characters and Korean language to create "Korean characters韓字 ".) for slaves.
These low Korean soldiers are used to protect the Chaoxian Peninsula 朝鮮半島(Chinese territory) to prevent Japanese pirates from invasion.
In ancient Korea (Chaoxian朝鮮 ) does not have any technologies and processes such as metal , Bend the wood and dye embroidery patterns.
Most Korean men became low -level soldiers in the Chinese army (under the command of Chinese officers). There is no armor. Korean only wear pure white clothes and korean women's clothing is exposed nipples (Hanbok - Features of traditional Korean clothes).
All Korean women use their heads to move anything (similar to other primitive tribal culture). Korean houses are cottage built with grass (only Chinese can live in Chinese palaces and temples).
Korean people earn food in the market concentrated on exchanging items. They do not have any coins and any metal things. South Korea's national culture and tools for use are very primitive.
Writing history is the tradition and habit of the ancient Chinese.
The history of the ancient Korean Peninsula was written by classical Chinese. This was read for the Chinese and must be approved for the Chinese emperor. This is a record and governance story of Chinese officials and nobles on the ancient Korean Peninsula.

The funny thing is that all three Korean kingdoms had similar population sizes. According to Chinese sources the population of Koguryo was 697,000 households and Baekje was 761,500 households at the time of their falls in 668 and 663 A.D, respectively. If you multiple that by the average household size of 5, then you have 3.5 million and 3.8 million individuals respectively for Koguryo and Baekje. Silla was probably somewhere in the middle. The north is vast land wise, but doesn't have a lot of productive agricultural possessions. Baekje controlled modern-day Cholla province, which has the peninsula's most fertile land. So, in all irony the Korean kingdom with the smallest amount of land probably had the largest population. The funny thing is... you see the similar population ratio today... with South Korea having about 2x more population than North Korea... hahahaha...

Yeah but actually, Go-Joseon was formed by the Original Samhan, Samhan mean Three Han or Three Korean (삼한 / 三韓). 韓 or Han mean Great, Vast, not mean Cold (寒) which has the same pronunciation and can not be confused with Han Chinese (漢). Samhan or Three Han are included 3 breeds of Korean people are Mahan (마한 / 馬韓), Jinhan (진한 / 辰韓) and Byeonhan (변한 / 弁韓). King Dan Gun assembled all 3 of these Han tribes and formed the very first kingdom and dynasty of Korea as Go-Joseon. And because all Korean people belonged to these 3 breeds of Korean / Han people so that’s why all Korean people have been calling their common country, history, culture and people as Han (韓 / 한), Dae Han (大韓 / 대한) and sometimes in ancient history as Samhan (三韓 / 삼한). The Samhan you're saying is called Nam Samhan (남삼한) or Southern Samhan who are the confedencies of Samhan tribes that moved to the South of Korean peninsula after Han Dynasty invaded it in 108 BC. While the Original Samhan was called Northern Samhan (북삼한), in Go-Joseon era, most of Mahan inhabited in Korean peninsula while most of Jinhan inhabited in Siberia and East Manchu and most of Byeonhan inhabited in West Manchu and nearer to North East China and East Mongolia. Goguryeo and Baekje belonged to Mahan, Shin La belonged to Jinhan and since they took over Gaya, a small kingdom of Byeonhan, Shin La is both Jinhan and Byeonhan. Until Goryeo Dynasty, all of these three breeds of Samhan were truly unified and called with the common name Dae Han 大韓 / 대한) or simply Han (韓 / 한) and no longer distinction of Samhan. And that's why South Korea still keep the official name as Han, Han Guk or Dae Han, except North Korea want to be different with South Korea so they re-used the name of Joseon, which is the last monarchy dynasty of Korea instead.

Being a mere 200 one hour episodes long, it briefly covers the unification of Korea in early 10th century by Wang Guhn, who becomes Emperor Taejo.
The most fun part is up to episode 120. The establishment of rule by a Buddhist fundamentalist, Goonye, is great.

Seondeok was the first woman to rule a kingdom in Korean history. The series had some fictional dramatization thrown in by adding a Mulan-like plot into the early parts of the story but it's a great series overall.
Jumong covers the Goguryeo creation myth. It's hardly a historical drama because... myth. Complete with magic, prophesies and all. Still a great intro into the 3 kingdoms of Korea though.
They're a bit different to the extra beautiful, extra colorful saeguk dramas of today.

Something not mentioned here (nor in the Old and New Histories of T'ang) is that there was an understanding by Silla that they would get to annex former Baekje and Koguryo land. According the the Samguk Sagi (official Korean history text compiled in the 12th century by the Goryeo dynasty but based on much earlier history books) there were negotiations between Silla king Muyeol and with Emperor Taizong of what a post Koguryo and post Baekje world order would look like. According to the Samguk Sagi it was agreed that if Silla helped T'ang defeat Koguryo, then T'ang would give Silla Baekje land and Koguryo land up to the T'aedong river. This was a verbal agreement between Taizong and Muyeol. Even after the death of Taizong in 649 A.D., King Muyeol was under the impression that Taizong's son (Emperor Gaozong) would keep this agreement. However, after the defeat of Baekje T'ang reinstated a son of the Baekje king to be governor of Ungjin Commandery (former Baekje territory). Then, T'ang gave King Muyeol another title, which is generalissimo of Gyerim Commandery, which meant equality with the conquered Baekje kingdom, not domination over as per the verbal agreement with Gaozong's predecessor. This incensed King Muyeol and most Sillians. They were doing a lot of work and providing a lot of resources to T'ang to help conquer the other two Korean kingdoms so they wanted to annex Baekje and Koguryo land up to the Taedong river. Thus, Silla supported Baekje and Koguryo rebels fighting against the T'ang administrative structure in the two former kingdoms, which ultimately led to war between T'ang and Silla just after the fall of Koguryo. It is interesting to note that even after the Silla-Tang war between 668-676 A.D., for the entire history of Silla they kept their end of the bargin they never advanced farther north of the Taedong river. Although the old capital of Koguryo lay just north of the Taedong river, Silla never antagonized T'ang by resettling it. It was early Goryeo that resettled Pyongyang, ousting a (what is likely a Mohe) chieftain named "Mo." But this happened after the fall of T'ang in the 920s A.D.

Ming never aided Goryo. You have the dates wrong. Goryo existed when Ming just got started, but Goryo ended soon afterwards. It was Ming that helped Chosun, a kingdom that was after Goryo.
Ming only helped Chosun because 1) Japanese forces were very close to the Willow Palisade and entry into Liaodong and 2) if Japan conquered all of Chosun then they could use it as a pirate base to widen and increase Wako pirate raids into the southern coasts of China. Back then Korea's security and China's security was more linked.

If you look at the map, you know how primitive the ancient Korea was backward and poverty (like North Korea today). This place is cold and lack of resources. The location of the Peninsula is 3 sea, only one side is bordering China.
The ancient Chinese did not want to possess the real reason for southern Korea. China has long blocked Koreans for a long time to prevent them from coming out. Prevent Koreans from entering Chinese territory (Chinese think Korea is a barbaric).
(The north side of the peninsula is the territory of the northern part of China, and the south is where the Korean people live in).

"Gauli 高麗 (Western name =Korea ) & Chaoxian 朝鮮 " is the name of Chinese territory and the Chinese region in ancient Western records. Before 1910, it was also a flag of Chinese territory and the Chinese region (Chinese Taoism logo). This is a recognized fact in the world.
White clothing Ethnic白衣民族 (today Korean ancestors) are just indigenous peoples in the southern part of the Chaoxian peninsula 朝鮮半島 . The language is Korean language 韓語. 98%is illiterate. Ethnic costumes are pure white (local Chinese wearing colorful Chinese clothes - hanfu漢服) and no patterns. Women's clothes are exposing nipples (this is a symbol of glorious). Every woman uses heads to carry anything. This is a traditional cultural characteristics (Korean culture).
Gauli king高麗國王(Goryeo king )and the Chaoxian King朝鮮國王 (they are both Chinese officials) both hate White clothing Ethnic白衣民族 (today Korean ancestors). This is mentioned in historical records and letters to the Chinese emperor.
After 1910, the Chaoxian peninsula 朝鮮半島 (Korean Peninsula) was occupied by the Japanese. The territory of the China Chaoxian Peninsula 中國朝鮮半島 was snatched. The Japanese and theWhite clothing Ethnic白衣民族 (today Korean ancestors) cooperated to invade other parts of China in the future. The Japanese killed and driven the China Chaoxian administrators Officials, nobles and officers, etc. to abolish Chinese characters漢字. It is forbidden to Korean women from exposing the nipples. Promoting the status of White clothing Ethnic白衣民族 . Push Korean language 韓語 and Korean characters韓字.
1945. Japan defeated and surrendered. He left the Chaoxian peninsula 朝鮮半島 (Korean Peninsula). The U.S. military occupied Japan (returned to Japan in 1960. The US military entered Ryukyu琉球).
In 1948, it was supported by the United States. The purpose was to set up a U.S. military base on the Chaoxian peninsula 朝鮮半島 (Korean Peninsula). The "TODAY KOREA 韓國" was established through the United Nations聯合國.
1953. The United States officially set up a military base in South Korea 南韓.
Therefore, the United States actually occupies Japan and South Korea, and now Japan and South Korea are just "fake independent countries". The purpose is to use regions to threaten China.

Goguryeo is the history of Korea.
    1. The word Korea comes from Goguryeo.
    2. Yemaek, a people of Goguryeo, is the largest ancestor of the Korean people.
    3. At that time, China and Japan called Goguryeo, Baekje and Silla three han.
    4. Even in pre-modern Chinese history, Goguryeo was regarded as Joseon and Samhan, and China's attempt to incorporate Goguryeo and Balhae into Chinese history began in the 2000s.
    5. In Korean history, Goryeo continued to succeed Goguryeo, and later Goryeo was established, which was the same name as Goguryeo.
    6. Mao Zedong and Zhou Enlai, politicians of the modern Communist Party of China, once called Goguryeo and Balhae Korean history.
    7. the center of Buyeo, the current Chinese grant from the 喇麻洞 the presumed remains came most genes are closest to Korea is that the Chinese their own grain.

Korean again try to steal Goguryeo. No chinese think Goguryeo is Han Chinese, but Goguryeo is related to manchurian people. Your examples are useless to prove your argument. In fact both historian from Japan and China identify Goguryeo as non-Korean Regime.
1.Country name doesn't matter. Is Holy roman empire italian? Korea did the same by claiming another culture just to make their history looks better.
2.DNA result from the local area in Ancient Goguryeo shows no relationship with modern Korean.
3.And China call everyone south of them baiyue, everyone north of them turk. Your logic is wierd.
      4.Primary Source required
      5.same as 1
6.Are these two guys historian? Japan emperor also said he feels related to Korean, but nowadays its been proved wrong, the Y-DNA of Japan emperor is group D. no relationship with Korean
7.Again no Chinese think they are Han Chinese group, but it for sure has nothing related to modern Korean.
Sum: Only Korea study History based on self imagination rather than historical documents and archaeological finds. The most perfect example: Korean WIKIPEDIA. Never seen any other country writing novels on WIKIPEDIA.

In its 5,000-year history, China has never established a nation of Han Chinese people.
I understand the historical trauma of living only as slaves of nomads such as Mongolia and Manchria.

Some question whether Hwarangs were really supposed to be an elite warrior group. Hwarang literally translates to flower-boys(hence the Kpop reference KEKW). I know modern culture's view on the word "flower" and old Silla culture's view on "flower" might have been different, but many cultures throughout human history tend to view the word "flower" as something that really doesn't have anything to do with "elite warrior group". It's most likely that Hwarang started out as a group of some young college boys from powerful families. But since they are young and all males, they just happened to partake in wars and battles when they were needed.

    • @dongf2618
      @dongf2618 3 года назад +1

All records of Hwarang mentioned the words "upper class" and "beauty," and described them to wear make-up and powdered themselves, and the original word according to the Korean record was actually Hwanang, which meant "flower girls." There is very scant evidence that proved they were actually warriors. There were a few Hwarang who became great warriors, but whether or not the whole Hwarang group was a warrior class is still being debated. There were people who went into the military role but they went into the administrative roles as well. So they could just be pretty boys from the upper class who received formal education from the state. Hwarang was not even well-known before WWII, it was after WWII Korea started to extoll Hwarang to be a prominent spiritual symbol to raise nationalism. Even their military school nowadays is named Hwarang...

    • @apiapo-ul8kg
      @apiapo-ul8kg Год назад

The name Hwarang came from the fact that it was originally a group of female teenagers, not male ones. However, the group comprised only of women had many problems and was eventually replaced by men. Also, they were not a fighting group. They only voluntarily went out and fought when the country was in crisis and were not soldiers.

12:54, "Many [Unified Sillan] students came to study in T'ang."
That's a misrepresentation of the painting. The painting is actually from Taizong's time and represents emissaries from (left to right) 1. Silla 2. Koguryo and 3. Baekje. Notice the similar style of clothing for all three. If you see all 40 of so emissary paintings that visited Taizong at the time Silla, Koguryo and Baekje all have the most similar style of clothing. All the other emissaries on the painted scroll have very different clothing (and posing) styles. Also notice the Koguryo and Baekje emissaries' facial features. Both Chinese and Korean sources says that Baekje was established by refugees from early Koguryo and an older kingdom in Manchuria called Puyo (or Fuyu in Mandarin pronunciation). Several Chinese histories of the time state pretty plainly that Koguryo and Baekje had "much of the same language, clothing and traditions" with each other. The emissaries from Koguryo and Baekje look like they can be brothers or cousins in that early T'ang painting.

The Korean people strongly resisted. Koreans believe that this is a traditional culture of Korea. They insist on retention.
In the Korean capital city. As long as the Japanese see those Korean women who show their nipples, they will give them penalties and slaps. After that, the Korean capital city gradually reduces Korean women's nipples. They cover the nipples with a piece of cloth.
(But in the place where there are fewer Japanese soldiers. Korean women still maintain the traditional culture that exposes nipples).
Until 1950, Westerners were still taking photos in Korea. A photo of Korean women showing nipples on the street (traditional Korean clothing). In 1970, this kind of Korean traditional culture disappeared completely.

Goguryeo was a northern Han area (and different government opinions) in the Tang Dynasty's governance regime. Baekje, SILLA is also the place of power governance in China. These are regional regimes created by the Han people in the north. (Obviously prove this from a lot of historical data and unearthed cultural relics).

King Jinheung even behea* King Seong's head and buried it underground to let Shin La's people step on his head so that's why Baekje hate Shin La so much. Baekje got stronger and rise again since the reign of King Mukang (King Mu, the 4th son of King Wideok) and he regained many lands from Shin La and even took more new lands and forts from Shin La. King Uija, the son of King Mukang continue his will and defeat Shin La in many battles and took a lot of forts from Shin La, expanded Baekje's territory bigger and Shin La was lower hand to Baekje and Goguryeo. So that's why Queen Seondeok and King Muyeol of Shin La had to allied with Tang Dynasty to unify Three Kingdoms of Korea because only one Shin La alone is too weak to against both powerful Goguryeo and the upper hand Baekje at same time. 5:32 this is the Shin La's territory in the reign of King Jinheung, not in the reign of King Muyeol Kim Chun Chu, Shin La's territory was much smaller in the reign of Queen Seondeok and King Muyeol due to Baekje and Goguryeo defeated them and took a lot of lands and forts from Shin La at the time.

Actually it is a traditional norm for Chinese Empire gave official titles to every ruler of its vassals and tribute states. For instance, Tang emperors also gave official titles to the emperor of Japan, Turkic tribes, Tokhara states, or even Sassanid Empire. It was more likely to show China's sovereignty over these states instead of an intention to annex them all, since Chinese emperors were regarded as Son of Heaven that was supposed to "rule" every civilized lands under heaven. Of course it was not equal diplomacy, but the concept of equal diplomacy has still 1000 years to be invented.

Much of its history with other countries is actually reinforced with primary sources as evidence. With regards to Korea, the historical relationship between China and Korea is not something that modern Korean nationalists are proud of, and understandably so. It was more or less analogous to a relationship between a father and a son, which many modern Korean nationalists interpret as a stain on Korea's sovereignty. However there is straight up primary source evidence written by the Korean King and Court from the Joseon dynasty that to paraphrase describe China as a parent, the similarities between Chinese and Korean culture, traditions and values and how Korea should stand by China just as a son should stand by his father. I would be willing to wager many Koreans would be oblivious to this and would insist it's some sort of propaganda! But alas it is simply the worldview of their forefathers.
