This was Madonna answering the backlash after the controversial period with Erotica and her Sex book. She’s saying other people can talk about her in a sexual way but when she owns the conversation it’s too shocking. I love at the end when she says “ would you like me better if I was?” If you apologize for your beliefs people will just move on to the next thing. Like you always say, just be yourself!
Before saying the line about 'would you like me better if I was' she said 'would it sound better if I was a man?'...'would you like me better if I was?. Which is so true, its fine for a man to be sexual and talk about sex and express themselves in an ivertly sexua and sexualised way, but a woman to do so is/was taboo and wasn't considered 'ladylike' and she'd be labelled a slut or nymph. There's that double standard. Which is beyond true, even today, in some ways, too. But back in the early 1990s it was u heard of for a female artist to be overtly sexual and talk about it so openly as Madonna did. By her doing so she shaped what was ro come for female artists and acts and their ability to say, do, be and express themselves totally without having to apologise for it and feel trapped by it being taboo. She did so much for female artists, and she basically did it all on her own at the very leak of her career too when she could have lost everything because kf Erotica and her Sex Book.
Although the song could well refer to a relationship, the main thrust of the message is to the media and critics of her Erotica album and SEX book that so threatened the moral majority that their heads practically exploded. It is the ultimate kiss off to her detractors and is one of the reasons that she is a legend in the gay community. So enjoyed your reaction! BTW, Madonna is very well known for her choreography and dance moves; particularly in her live shows. You should check some of them out!
She's not talking about a boyfriend. She's talking about society. Back then, the religious right had a lot of say in our lives. In today's world, they cry about cancel culture, but they were the ones doing it back in the day. Madonna is one of the reasons why they are not considered the moral majority anymore. This video is about not putting people in a box, tying them down, and making them act or be a certain way. What she is saying is who tf made up these rules that we are all supposed to live by and why, me as a female (or, more importantly, females as a whole) is the only one that can't talk about sex or human nature, when the men in their videos/ music had all kinds of sexual sht going on and nobody was saying sht to them about it.
Absolutely. This is not directed at an ex. It's to the media and critics at large who had so much vitriol to slung her way after the Sex Book and Erotica.
Well, my parents were a pastor and Pastor‘s wife, and did not dislike Madonna at all. After the erotica album and thesex book, most of the country have become tired of Madonna. All forms of media had become tired of Madonna. There was an oversaturation of Madonna and people Had begun to find her distasteful. I don’t think the religious right had much to do with it. And by the way, cancel culture is sick and is a disease… I wouldn’t applaud it.
Due credit to you for understanding and appreciating how Madonna does not repeat herself musically or visually. With each and every one of her albums and songs, she switches it up and evolves. I am hoping against hope you react to some of her live concert performances. Specifically her 2006 Confessions Tour Live. As a 4+ decades long fan, and concert tour attendee, her Confessions tour is just about perfect.
You should check out her earlier videos that helped establish her as a music video icon Material Girl, Borderline, and Open Your Heart. Great storylines in only a few minutes
Love this. It wasn’t about a partner though, she wrote this about the public, press, people who were always hating on her. At this stage she had so much crap from critics, press, general public etc so this was her F You to them. It was genius at the time and was telling them all to go F themselves.
I'm glad you appreciate how different every Madonna single you've listened to. She's done almost every genre imaginable except opera although the Evita soundtrack is considered a rock opera but it doesn't matter as it's evident you can't box a Madonna sound whenever you first hear a new song from her. That's what still differentiates her from today's Gaga's, Riris, Beyonce's, Ari's and Swifties. Truly a chameleon among all artists. That's one of her many legacies.
I love your reviews brother. Enjoying your journey. Keep talking I love how we are getting to know you while you’re getting to know Madonna. Keep on the good work.
MADONNA let the world have it !! Most iconic clap back mainstream back then…. Everything she says is true.. she opens your eyes to reality and if you don’t like it .. oh well deal with it
ACTUALLY… you should watch privately or on your channel the Night Line interview with Madonna when she discusses the song “Justify My Love”…. She got a lot of shyt in those days and she explains the problem with society… it’s EPIC.. This is a perfect way to learn about her mindset and why she pushes buttons… and Yes I am a Madonna fanatic since 1983 at the age of 13.. obsessed since her first song… and I’m 53 now so if you need some info or suggestions let me know … most people stick to her top 40 radio hits… but there is so much more
I think "the boyfriend" in the lyrics is the bigotery, the press, all people who treated her as a whore in the Eroitca Era for having an opinion, for express herself, for having sexuality!! Till then a sexy woman in the music industry, dominated by men, was used as a sex object, and Madonna showed she was an sex subject, as a woman has also sexuality but she owns and decided about her sexuality! I like also how in the video she use the bondage, the boxes, the tight latex clothes, etc that they critizised in the Eroitica Era, to critizise this time those who tie you up, who put you in a box, who don't let you express yourself and live your life free...at least I interpreted that in this video... Absolutely no regrets...therefore I like also Madonna...
When you try to do that to some one that’s the true meaning of a controlling narcissist they live and breath control with there lies and deceit from the people around them and they really don’t have the knowledge of true love 🥰💯
Madonna been getting burnt by the media and the public since the jump. This was especially true after sex book and the Erotica album. This was her F U response!
She wasn't referring to anyone in particular. This is a message to all the media always doing their best to put her down and shut her up. This is a Fu.k you song to them👍😊
MADONNA is the QUEEN of REINVENTION. She will come out with a totally different look, a different way of singing the same song she sang a year ago. This video is a big FU*K you to all her critics that put her down after EROTICA and her SEX BOOK. She is a gangster 😂❤ I also.want say...we are enjoying your reactions ... stop coughing 😅😊
I commented on the last video about puling up lyrics separately and following along... but now I'm also recommending at least reading the Wiki to understand the meaning behind the video first... this was not about a man, it was about pop culture/society - love you, dude!
I guess the lyrics could be understood in the context of a relationship... but it's really a song that encapsulates her feelings for her detractors after the erotica criticisms.
She's not really talking about a guy, it much more than that. This Bedtime Stories album came out after Erotica when people gave her shit for that and the nude book "Sex" she put out. She's saying how she does not care or regret it.
She's talking about society. Human nature. We judge. Cynicism. She was hitting back at the media after doing her sex book. Conservatism has been on the rise since then. Both, society and conservative people in politics and the news were degrading her for being "too sexual" with her music videos. They were doing it to rappers as well. Rappers went to court cause the establishment was trying to censure them for explicit lyrics. She was criticizing hypocritical politicians and conservative narrow-minded people. This is her way of telling them to f, off. She was great. To this day the media are trying to put her down but after four decades she learned how to hit back and got more power than before. But she's been dealing with the media and even Trump came for her trying to diminish her. This woman is gonna be history-making with her art. She calls herself a "freedom fighter".
It's funny in your Erotica music video reaction you said it was 'human nature' and this song is a clap back at media, critics and religious leaders who criticized her Erotica album and the accompanying coffee table book she released called 'Sex' back in 1992
Erotica and her SEX book was too much for a lot of people. It was her first setback. They could not handle a pretty female with strong opinion and strong sexuality. Her record sales declined for years…
👑 ❤️🔥 🏆 I feel like you’re experiencing her work in good faith, so it’s interesting that your straight male gaze first interprets what she’s saying as directed toward a boyfriend. I think if this were sung by a man it would more than likely be interpreted as a f**k you to society, which is exactly what it is. As I’m sure people have already stated, this is her response to the conservative backlash against her Er0tica album and S*x book, and her championing of LGBTQ and women’s sexual representation and empowerment. This backlash came from all the blindly pious hypocrites of this entire planet, not just one insecure boyfriend. It’s her statement that, regardless, her one woman crusade against Puritanism would continue. No regrets. No surrender ⚔️

She's The Chameleon of Music....she created the ERAS with every album
My friend. She studied dance at University of Michigan. She danced with Martha Graham and Alvin Ailey. She’s literally a classically trained dancer.
Madonna trained as a dancer before she was a singer.
Yes, and a Patrick Hernandez chorist too
The corn rows were woven platen leather strips that they put into her hair 🥰
Although the song could well refer to a relationship, the main thrust of the message is to the media and critics of her Erotica album and SEX book that so threatened the moral majority that their heads practically exploded. I love that "would u like me better if I was?" That goes so hard

Precisely!!
Absolutely. This is not directed at an ex. It's to the media and critics at large who had so much vitriol to slung her way after the Sex Book and Erotica.
My favorite line from the song is, “ Would it sound better if I were a man?”
I think she is also commenting on media commentary.
Well, my parents were a pastor and Pastor‘s wife, and did not dislike Madonna at all. After the erotica album and thesex book, most of the country have become tired of Madonna. Essentially..it was her response to the backlash she got over the Erotica album ...oops I didn't know I couldn't talk about sex ..
Yesss
I seen an interview of hers where she said her hair was actually blonde but had leather braided through her hair, which made it look black. 😆
I love her song 'THIS USED TO BE MY PLAYGROUND'
I love her soo much in my teen's and i love her now.
Thank you for reminding me for that❤
Madonna is a trained dancer since HS. React to GIRL GONE WILD video. Its amazing
Madonna “music” video and music performance from the drowned world tour is amazing together 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
She is not known as a dancer? Then you never saw her concerts....😂😂😂
Definitely he needs to take a break of reacting videoclips and start reacting to her performances and tours 😂😂😂
She was a ballet dancer
Madonna is the greatest we all love her❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️thanks for your human nature reaction you are nice ,your reaction made me smile👍👍👍👍💗💗👍
Awh ❤️
It's about the public and the media
You should check out her earlier videos that helped establish her as a music video icon Material Girl, Borderline, and Open Your Heart. Great storylines in only a few minutes
I love your Madonna reactions! Please, do Madonna´s tour reactions! Best Regards from Brazil :)
The greatest FU to the naysayers
Love this. It wasn’t about a partner though, she wrote this about the public, press, people who were always hating on her.

Madonna: Forbidden Love - Confessions Tour: Backdrop !!!!
Madonna hung up is more of a disco song but i guess you will like it!😊
I think it's time to watch "Bedtime Stories" her most expensive Video Music of all time and today it kept showing permanently at MoMa in NYC.
I'm glad you appreciate how different every Madonna single you've listened to. This is my favorite song of hers, this and Borderline.
I'm so excited to see her next week.. 9th show, I love her!
Dammm you’re gonna have a blast ! I’m jealous
@@MadAng66 I love her! ❤️

Thank you so much!!!
This song is a response to people (mostly the media) who gave her sh*t for "Justify My Love," "Erotica," and her Sex book.
I'm not a fan of Madonna but she has the merit of havig freed women's voices on sexuality so it's cool
Madonna like a virgin-Hollywood feat Britney Spears from the vma ❤❤❤❤❤
When you try to do that to some one that’s the true meaning of a controlling narcissist they live and breath control with there lies and deceit from the people around them and they really don’t have the knowledge of true love 🥰💯
Madonna been getting burnt by the media and the public since the jump. This was especially true after sex book and the Erotica album. This was her F U response!
She is a dancer and entertainer first, singer second.
Her dancing prowess will be more apparent once you start to react to live concert footage. Blond Ambition tour will blow your mind
She wasn't referring to anyone in particular. This is a message to all the media always doing their best to put her down and shut her up. This is a Fu.k you song to them👍😊
“Dont hang your shit on me’ i .e. it’s their hang ups and insecurities , not hers . Great line.
BLONDE AMBITION TOUR!!!!
This is about all the criticism and hatred she received after she released her Erotica album and SEX book 3yrs prior. Icon.
MADONNA is the QUEEN of REINVENTION. She will come out with a totally different look, a different way of singing the same song she sang a year ago. From now on, when I hear M sing “Narrow Room” I’m gonna say “Fuck that room” 😂
Most of the lyrics are about the album Erotica and her book Sex, there was a lot of noise about her previous work!
Thanks!
Thank you so
Much!!!
She IS a known for dancing.
Madonna response to the Erotica and SEX book controversy....the BedTime Stories album came after the Erotica album 😉

React to Madonna's Cherish video
I guess the lyrics could be understood in the context of a relationship... but it's really a song that encapsulates her feelings for her detractors after the erotica criticisms.
You should watch Madonna on guitar so watch Hung Up Live from Sticky & Sweet Tour it’s mashed up with Pantera
She's not really talking about a guy, it much more than that. This Bedtime Stories album came out after Erotica when people gave her shit for that and the nude book "Sex" she put out. She's saying how she does not care or regret it.

Not about a boyfriend. This was basically Madonna venting about all the *^ she got over the Erotica album.

Not as catchy as some of her 80s songs!
You didnt get this song. Sorry...
Dam man you talk to much in my opinion 😅😅😅
Lol thanks
That’s the point to reaction videos. Cmon we all know the song otherwise we wouldn’t be here 😂
