I have never, and I mean NEVER seen someone make and use custom dies and tools for specific tasks as well as you do. The power hammer specialty plates and the reverse drift for these nails is sheer genius. Why not make the tools you need to speed up the work. My my. Terrific.
Great video! I watched a bunch of forging nails videos in preparation for forging my first nail (and first blacksmithing project ever!). I love how everyone does it differently and there's no "right" way to do it. I'm learning from my dad who learned at Old Sturbridge Village, a living history museum in Massachusetts, almost 50 years ago. I'm documenting my journey learning blacksmithing on my channel.
New Sub. Thunder Bear sent me! My uncle was a farrier. He taught me to whack horse shoe nails when I was 6. By the time I was 8 I could whack many nails quickly. Cheap child labor. I loved it! That was almost 60 years ago.
Alway great to see your videos. beautiful and very clean work. Keep up the great Craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Forge on. keep making. god bless.
This is really cool for a simple project... Id like to see a bit of a run through and explanation of your tooling on the racks behind, maybe a demo of some of the items aswell..
Ha, well my service is terrible out here, but a huge upgrade is coming soon with high speed internet down my street, around 6 months. I can upgrade then.
Very nice. Did you put a tapered hole in the header or straight-sided? I've always seen people recommend the hourglass hole, punched from both sides like a hammer head, but always thought that was more an artifact of the forging process than a necessity for making nails. Every time I've tried it, the nails end up sticking in the header.
The square hole in the nail header is tapered, but not hourglass. Straight sides cause the head to angle from the axis of the nail. I haven't had sticking issues, just cool before kicking out.
@@rigoniironworks that is what thought based on your viechle , your videos have a European feel to them anyways i hope that does not offend you and thank you i am a new sub from Canada i really like the seamless sockects maybe you could make a cleaver or utility knife with a seemless socket or a wood chisel thank you again i really enjoy your videos also thank you for taking the time to reply
Aren't you missing the point using all these modern tools to make a traditional nail? You even belt grind the head to make it look more hand forged. Don't get me wrong it's a good video but I feel like you're making a stone chisel in a rocket-factory. My opinion.

Good stuff! Welcome to the life. Develop patience and determination, and you'll forge something beautiful.
Thanks for doing a real use demonstration at the end! Love to see what you make in action!

Very impressive. Glad to subscribe. Torbjörn Åhman sent me. Thanks for sharing your expertise and experience.
Welcome! and thank you
Always precision!!! Great work!
Tooling is everything. The time required to build proper tooling is of no consequence and the only true way.
Very nicely done , your tooling is a good example of a quality craftsman . :)

In my videos, I show the tools on the rack. Usually new projects require me to build some kind of new tooling.
Those would make really cool center punches.
I came here to say the same thing
You really hit the nail on the head with this one!
Good one Bro.
When are we gonna see Full HD videos from you, brother?
Your quality is too great to keep it at 720p.
Cheers!

@@rigoniironworks tapered top to bottom or bottom to top?
Oh right, I forged a tapered square hole for maybe 1/2" down. The rest/underside I drilled out a bit larger to act as clearance beforehand.
@@rigoniironworks I'll have to give that a try. Thanks!

Impressive. I'm sure the ancient Romans would approve too.

Forge how you like. The finished shape/project is what I care about. I don't care what tools I use.

It's not supposed to. I'm using these as a hold down for the butcher block.

Even Jesus would approve. Although I don't think the Romans would have taken quite as much care with sharpening them . . .
