If you’re saying only 60-65000 that equates to costing £100,000 - £66,667 per extra seat. Then if they then see they could’ve/should’ve went bigger it costs more again. Do it properly and start at least at 75k with an easy way to expand if needed. Remember the extra events that the stadium could be used for too
I always remember ininiating different studies and focus groups in order to make big changes in a previous job but with the intention of just collecting the data needed to underpin a decision already made ! I think this is a similar situation! I think they’ve made there minds up about having a new stadium
Seems most fans are overwhelmingly in favour of a new stadium and the fans preference would be on Leazes park and 75,000/80,000. Whilst SJP has nostalgia etc people appreciate that the club needs to evolve to a whole new level now. Look at what Man City intend to build - NuFC should be building that from the start. They would fill it.
If it can be done in Leazes park a 75-80k would be fantastic. Majority could be built whilst we still use SJP then last phase would be to rebuild Leazes end. An overriding issue we must fill it for every game! Good report as usual guys! Only time will tell.
@@Cristobal_2012 don’t disagree but then we only have one option and that is to build elsewhere a bitter pill to swallow but a necessity, others have done it very successfully, Gooners Spurs City etc
Lads I love your blogs and have huge respect for yous But I was 13 yrs old when I saw us win the Fairs cup in 69. I am now 68, and there has been no more special memories since then. Just failures. We need a fresh start and we need to move to leazes park. SJP has been cursed more than half a century of failure. The ground is cursed.
No doubt it’s a massive decision about our ground going forward, but I doubt it’s the size of the decision holding things up. More like to my thinking it’s delicate negotiations taking place with council and various other stakeholders.
Lads it’s a new stadium, PIF aren’t spending a billion on 8000 extra seats, answer me this, even if we expand by that amount, you can’t extend the hospitality, the toilet facilities etc, it’s terrible now! Got to take advantage of rich owners now who want to give us a new home to last for decades.
I'm on level 7 under the cantilever stand the issue is the concourse. Not wide enough big queues for food drink and toilets. Revenue lost. My mate has walking difficulties the lift access is so over used as well. Takes him ages to get in and out. You can't fix those issues easily you'd have to build new. Think of Wembley purpose built practical no queues and everyone can see the screens!
Hi love the channel. Are we not in the same position as Everton? Goodson was the traditional old ground. They are going to get a brand spanking new shiny stadium. Why don’t we ask them how they feel?
Don’t see it happening in Leazes park, Newcastle have made no contact with leazes. To compete in the future we have to move to a new stadium. It pains me to leave St James but we have to look to the future
New 80k stadium preferably using Leazes Park or Leazes Moor. We would lose a hell of a lot if they had to relocate outside of the city centre, the location of the ground near to all the pubs and eating outlets is the reason why Newcastle is one of the favourite grounds in the country. City Council should realise what a boost to the local economy the football club brings and should bend over backwards to accommodate them regarding location
To attract the best players and to be able to generate revenue from all avenues we need to build the best to attract the best...Im sure a new stadium has to be the way to progress the club.Memories of SJ Park will always be that...Lets bring the best....
It’s got to be 80,000 for me to be a generational change to increase SJP by say 10,000 will not give us the cash injection to move the team to the next level cheers
I can’t see them expanding at the cost of nearly a billion for 8000 extra seats. Although it will be a heart wrenching move to a new stadium this makes more financial sense for the long term.
Temp stadium on leazes while we tear down and rebuild st james in the same place, get on to them to incorpotate wet n wild and new metroland into the design, epic psr gains!
To help grow revenues and therefore be able to compete in a PSR world people might not like it but you need a new ground that incorporates pubs and restaurants etc ( not a beer and pie on the concourse) that people use before the game and after the game. I.el all the money ( or a good percentage) that match goers spend in and around the city in bars and restaurants goes to the club. That can’t be done in an expanded St James where the main focus is simply to grow the crowd capacity. Lots of people will not like that particularly pub owners but it’s true. Please believe me as someone who first went to st. James in 1961 and was a season ticket holder for 3 decades until Ashley leaving St James is not something that I will applaud but it’s a necessity
Can't see how you can stay at St James park and expand it. Where would we play games or the loss of attendance would be a huge affect in the home games
The longer it goes on the more likely a new stadium (which needs a lot of work to put in place) becomes. I think the cost of expanding SJP with all the issues around it isn’t worth adding a maximum of 10,000 capacity. We need 75,000 plus to give us a long term advantage over the competition financially
As much as I love st James park, but it is time to move from st James if we could expand it to 70.000 that would be wonderful but if your going to add maybe 8000,to 10.000 for a cost of 1 billion then you have to move from st James park but I don’t want to move away from the city centre
Got to be a new stadium for me . The fact that they can use SJP at full capacity till the new one is built is a plus as well as the revenue a top class brand new stadium will bring. SJP is tired and would cost an absolute fortune to upgrade!
NUFC have done an excellent job around the stadium plans, they've openly communicated/collaborated with the fans and the city yet no one really knows what's going on and public opinion about knocking down SJP has gone from quite a strong 'it's sacred, it has to stay' to people being quite open to a new SJP, all thanks to time and people talking amongst themselves.
80k would be easy filled building a extra 8-10 thousand of SJP is a complete waste of money and investment, that will not help with PSR , we need a complete new stadium the council needs to get on board because moving it out of the city will be devastating for pubs and restaurants, 70k isn’t big enough
@@rogercookcouk once it’s built that’s it by the sound of it once in a lifetime so I’d rather go a little bigger as I think we would fill it if it was more family friendly like the Mercedes Benz stadium in Atlanta was , so much of a family oriented, and it would be better for concerts and large boxing events, I think we could fill another 28k we can give more away fan tickets as well
If you look at the additional capacity needed then 60k would give us the same as Arsenal which would be possible in current site. Along with a revamp and refurb of the rest of the stadium Yuen that is not only my choice but the most realistic choice. Leaves Park available footprint not big enough. However I have thought for a while that the ambitions of PIF have changed, not sure what comes next but slowness of stadium decision, no training ground plan and failure in last few windows, Saudi’s do not fail at what they target, they do not achieve the targets they do not set.
Its a huge decision, but for me build a leviathan that can be the envy of the World, the only thing that's 100% certain we can't use any part of Leazes Park unfortunately as the owners and guardians of the park have stated within the last 2 days "their has been no contact from anyone at St James regarding re-development of any part of the park" they have also stated their would be huge problems as the Park has been institute since the 18 hundreds and has declined any form of re-development to this day. It's a dilemma for us Toon fans.
What needs to be considered is the progress of the club. We require forward thinking , so where are they wanting to be in 20 years indeed where will football be then as well. The multi use of the stadium will be a huge factor for revenue going forward . As you've stated the owners will want the best so it's a huge decision . There's also nothing to stop a link being made between the existing and the new , so St James's could house all the training facilities and be the home of our ladies team which would make them inclusive and not an add on as we have now.
Football is not going to be less popular in 25 years time. Newcastle Council will not want to lose the city centre club for all the benefits that brings to the city centre unless they can realise those benefits elsewhere or in combination with whatever replaces St James Park. ATM people don't spend much when at the club but they would spend more if it were a bigger attraction. Every other major club that moved their stadium had similar considerations.
The fans are the soul of the club, not the stadium, yes tradition and such but tradition doesn’t keep up with the times,,,remember football is a huge business these days, and I would say 100% there will eventually be a new stadium.
Couldn't fill a 100k seater? Seem to forget how large the North East/South Tyneside is 😂 Wasn't there over 15k people wanted a season ticket in the rural Newcastle area alone?
"state of the art stadium" makes me shudder... I dread to think what matchdays will look like in 20 years time but the atmosphere and culture that made stadiums so great will be a thing of the past the way its going.
It has to be a New stadium, economical and to become a real Big club it has to be a new state of the art Stadium, no sentiment, sentiment doesn't win you trophies and being realistic what have we really had to celebrate over the past 100 years? a few memorable moments here and there but nothing of significance. Dump St James' and move on
The statements make if feel like they're leaning towards a new stadium elsewhere. Current PSR restrictions are a scapegoat, IMO. No one knows how strict PSR will be in the future or if even a factor. With little or no PSR, we wouldn't need more ticket/matchday revenue. Upgrading SJP to 65K would be enough... I'll still fly over to the toon and go to matches if there is a mega-stadium outside the city-centre. But, I won't like it as much as SJP. Never. 🖤🤍
Let us know your thoughts on the future of St James' Park - should Newcastle United stay or leave?
How big would an expanded/new stadium need to be?
For me Lads, it's a 75K on Leazes Park but we have to stay in the city centre and it has to be intimidating with excellent acoustics 🖤⚪️🖤

80k with ability to upgrade if necessary. Make it the cathedral of the whole of the north of England. The best place for concerts and much much more.
Nice
