Hitting the start button without your foot on the brake. Is that priming the fuel filter?

Turning the truck into the run position with out starting the pump should kick in and prime the system.
Would suggest cycling to the run position engine off twice before starting and letting run to make sure all the air in the system is compressed as much as possible so you do not get a sputter from the engine. Or start stall scenario.

Do you change fuel filter every oil change or every other??

there is a fuel filter life monitor in the truck i would prolly follow.
I am not 100% sure on the exact interval but google is saying every 24 months or 30,000 miles. which ever comes first. So I would say every second to third oil change depending on the millage your doing.
