    Why have they tried to recreate a real world squid games TWICE? That show is about the tragedy of those without money being desperate enough to endure cruel and inhumane conditions for a shot at something better and how there are the morally repugnant wealthy people who not only get rich off the suffering of the lower class but actively enjoy facilitating and watching their humiliation. Both Netflix execs and Mr. Beast/Amazon thought ABSOLUTELY YES let's do that for real. It's not remotely surprising the horrifying reports that came out of both sets. It really takes a special kind of disconnected billionaire to host a squid games and place yourself as one of the rich naked creeps in animals masks laughing from behind the cameras.

      @allison5487 4 месяца назад

      I want to comment on the "why people are shocked" part because that's personally my main issue with these types of youtubers. I've been telling my kids for years that much of the stuff Mr. Beast is doing is fake. He's not giving away all his money and actually losing money (he has said that many times). But my kids believe it. I had no proof before. They take their birthday money and buy his disgusting chocolate and merchandise. They genuinely think he's an amazing person and everything is true.
      Mr Beast's audience is primarily children. He's making money by lying to children. Sure, some adults can see a lot of his statements and videos are fake, but it's much harder for kids.
      Now that all this has come out, I see he's much worse than just a capitalistic liar. He was (at minimum) aware of TERRIBLE things in his company. So I've explained to my kids what is going on and that they can't watch his videos, buy his merchandise, or support him in any way.
      I'm really hoping other parents do the same. He has manipulated our children long enough, and he'll see the dollar signs leaving when children stop watching him.

    We might not see a direct drop-off in subscription numbers, but I think it helps that some of this stuff will show up on a Google search. Advertising agencies will see it as a risk, places that would let him film there might have someone on staff around to point out that they don’t want to be associated with him. It may not be enough to destroy him, but his career will take a turn after this. Maybe we’ll get lucky and he’ll have a full on Elon tantrum and throw himself in the trash for us.

    2:54 Mr Beast has always been so weird to me cuz his whole RUclips formula is like “I pay the medical bills of random disabled person” or “I spend the day picking up trash” and he makes **soooo** much money off the views/ads alone on each video, he could pay to have those same actions done again multiple times over

    • @brassbuckles
      @brassbuckles 4 месяца назад +9

      Or he could pay to create funds/investments that go toward helping *many* people get medical care, glasses, etc. He could set up funds to equip volunteer workers to clean up litter regularly. He could set up investments, if he wanted to do good, to fund impoverished children's education so that they'd have better chances of escaping poverty. And he could set up investment funds so that the proceeds would go to providing food, supplies, and clean water to deeply impoverished nations to make people's quality of life better.
      But he doesn't, because those would be quiet actions that wouldn't garner the same amount of fame, appreciation, and income. He chooses to do flashy things on purpose, and the purpose of them is not genuinely to help others, but to help Mr. Beast while exploiting the people he's ostensibly helping. His game shows and short-term gifts of large amounts of money do not help most people in the long-term.

    • @brassbuckles
      @brassbuckles 4 месяца назад +8

      I also pointed this out before I saw your comment. And not only might children not know, but they likely won't believe it if they did know. They'd assume Mr. Beast is a great guy and may even see him as a friend. Worse, their parents may not know about it, or may not be monitoring what their children are watching, so the parents also aren't going to unsubscribe.
      Meanwhile, Mr. Beast exploits the kids who watch his videos by convincing them to like and subscribe in hopes of winning a giveaway or a chance to be part of his show. In reality he rarely gives gifts to subscribers (and when he does, he changes the rules multiple times) and mostly does his game shows with employees and friends, meaning the kids in his audience are vanishingly unlikely to ever appear on his shows.

And in that time I would wear a lot of like fandom t-shirts. Your typical Walmart v-neck type. And one of these shirts I had was a gray Hogwarts Crest v-neck. This was before I knew that JK Rowling was terrible. And there was a guy who worked behind me who hit on me. This dude was at least old enough to be my dad. Probably and then some and I told him repeatedly that I did not like that and after the third or fourth time of this happening and me telling him no. I went to HR because at 18 years old I thought hr's job was to make work a safer place. I ended up getting set home with a strike against me over dress code because my shirt was inappropriate... There was also a commentary video I saw that showed part of a Mr. Beast video where a person who was getting older/maybe already elderly or retirement age needed the surgery to return to work to support his (impoverished) family. Now I'm not minimizing the fact that the guy got help and was able to go back to work and keep his family going as a result, but as wealthy as Mr. Beast was, he couldn't, I don't know, set up an emergency fund for them in case anything else went wrong? An education fund for the guy's kids? Something to help the guy feel at ease that his family would be OK no matter what, even if he genuinely wanted to work and not retire? Because yeah, the ability to work meant the guy's family wouldn't starve, for now, but imagine if they had gotten some kind of help, such as an investment or savings account, that would actually have helped them escape poverty over time so the man could someday retire. But no, because Mr. Beast wanted to pretend to be Jesus for RUclips views and likes--and of course the cold hard cash that came along with it.
      I may have the details wrong somewhat because I did not personally watch the video on Mr. Beast's channel, but the commentary was right to call him out on only offering surgery while the man and his family were still impoverished, and hundreds and thousands of people suffer vision impairment that could be helped by funding vision checks and glasses, etc. But donating funds to a charity that provides vision care and glasses isn't as entertaining as picking one guy who looks appropriately miserable to help out so that Mr. Beast can look saintly in comparison.
      I'm not a Mr. Beast fan, haven't ever watched his videos. The only thing I knew about him before all this blew up was that he was some famous RUclipsr well known to exploit impoverished people.

Most of them either don't know anything about what's been going on, don't care, or don't believe it because they think Mr. Beast is their friend and a great guy.

If he was a true philanthropist he wouldn't be sticking cameras in peoples faces and asking them to peform like a dancing monkey and "be grateful" to the camera. And they're always things that don't actually impact people in useful ways. Giving a guy a million but he HAS to spent it all in 24hrs? Giving a homeless guy a lambo? Like wtf lmao. His stuff just always seems extremely exploitative and ableist.
    I think there are ways to film generous actions, but it's a fine line, and it shouldn't include exploiting the person you're aiding. I'm thinking of the folk that clean vulenerable peoples houses for free, or do their yard (people like Midwest Magic). They clean a house with no caveats, but ask to record their cleaning process. There's no filming the people, no forcing them to sob gratefully at the camera, and no stupid caveats like "CLEANING A HOUSE WITH ONLY 10 TRASH BAGS!!!!!"

      Considering the cost of living in some places results in regular houses being over $1,000,000, and the cost of retirement for most people is edging up over the $1,000,000 mark, I think you are lowballing it. Maybe, like myself, you live in an area with relatively low cost of living and you just aren't aware of how little money $1M actually is. Even then, I'm sure that if your area is like mine, home prices and rent prices have pretty much doubled from their pre-2020 values, not to mention the rising costs of groceries and utilities. $1M doesn't go nearly as far as you might want, especially if you're supporting a family.
      My thought on the matter is that people should certainly be able to become wealthy, but no one should be a billionaire, and probably nobody should have $100M+. Once you have enough for a home and to retire on comfortably, the rest is mostly greed. Companies should be putting money back into their base-level workers, limit the percentage of revenue that can be directed toward the top-ranking executives, and anything that doesn't go to salaries should go to improving the company--its offices and equipment, any innovations or work that it focuses on, etc.--and, if the company doesn't need equipment or office upgrades and can't or doesn't wish to innovate in its services/products, the last bit should go either tax or local charities of the sort that distribute wealth to the purposes and people in the community who need it.
      My idea will never be implemented, of course. AI will have all our jobs before my thoughts would even be relevant.

    I remember Philosophy tube did a good breakdown of the problematic nature that Mr Beast uses for his altruism. That at its core he would only ever put bandaids on the problems and only ever attack the symptoms instead of actually dealing with the root cause because that root cause is exactly what is making him money. Now the video doesn’t really put the blame on Mr Beast, and is more about the altruistic entrepreneur as a whole, but it really got to what irked me about Mr Beast’s kindness.
    Sure team trees put down a bunch of trees, but if those were all the exact same type of tree you just created a monoculture that will die when the next blight comes through. Sure team seas took out a bunch of plastic, but that just got sent to a landfill which will ultimately end up back in the ocean, and it doesn’t stop new plastic from entering the water at all. Sure he gave Blind and Deaf people sight and hearing, but that’s not cutting a the systemic problems the Blind and Deaf communities are dealing with at all. None of his altruism actually does anything. Yes a handful of people are better off now than before, but that’s only a fraction of the people that are dealing with this problem, and Mr Beast will never deal with the root cause because it makes him money to not do that.
    Everything he does isn’t to do good, or actually have a positive impact on the world, but to make him money and give him praise. It’s why everything is a gameshow, a challenge, or a social experiment because that makes him money. The moment he did a squid game challenge I instantly knew his character because only a specific type of person looks at that show and goes “oh let’s totally do this!” Glad to see my gut reaction of this guy was right. Shame too since I was starting to come around to him since he was actively supporting Ava in her transition and defending her against transphobes. He was actively showing he was an ally to us trans people. Shame that’s also a blight on our community now too, and one that will probably have longer lasting effects compared to all the shit Mr Beast is going through.

    Your video was the first and probably the only one I'll watch about MrBeast, and it seems like a nightmare to work for/with an asshole like that. Also thank you for showing the clip of Devil wears Prada - I'm tired of seeing people praise the kind of work environment, as if it wasn't toxic af and sth we should get rid of, it's not middle ages anymore. I wish more people saw that for what it is, not something to strive for, bc you want to be THAT person, you want to be the big shot that treats people "beneath" you like trash.
    I myself worked for a big fish in a little pond, and it's AWFUL. You get paranoid, knowing about all the connections and what standing up to them means to you.

      It's optimistic to think that way, but then we have so many people with generational wealth that the more likely result is that he has kids who end up richer than he is and end up super entitled because they can't comprehend why everyone else can't just pay for personal trainers and chefs.

      @@brassbuckles Not optimistic at all. Unfortunately, some Empires might take several human lifetimes before they fall. And, yes, it's horrible for the people under it.
