Does Victoria's Secret Deserve a comeback?
Victoria's secret was founded on a fantasy of a woman and men's desires, and it carried that legacy with it for the entire duration. A company which sold to women, but fulfilled men's desires. They have had many issues over the years with how the business was run, how the models were treated, not to mention legal issues involving Jeffrey Epstein, so their last fashion show was in 2018, but they're back now after "years of work" but....has any of it actually paid off? Or are they just irrelevant now?
There are flashing lights throughout this video, sorry, for some reason the fashion shows love to make things feel like a rave 😖

Sabrina Carpenter & the female popstar's "bad role model" peril
Просмотров 53 тыс.День назад
Sabrina Carpenter is the latest in a long list of pop stars who have been deemed to be "bad role models" or "inappropriate". To add the cherry on top, she's an ex-Disney star, so we all know that "betrayal" hits so much harder given how they're always marketed as "squeaky clean" then when people become adults, they change from that image because, well, the contract expired, so they no longer ne...

Starving for a role - method acting or abusive directors?
Просмотров 27 тыс.21 день назад
Method acting is often considered the most "serious" kind of acting, where you really "become" the person you're playing. But what about when directors have a certain "look" for a role they want, but they want that name attached to it so the actor has no other choice but to change their entire body to suit the role, no matter the impacts on them. And why is this so celebrated, it's often the wa...
Can you be friends with your political foe? Taylor Swift and Brittany Mahomes

Taylor Swift has come under hot water for her friendship with Brittany Mahomes because they appear to be from polar opposite political standing, with Taylor endorsing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, democrats, and Brittany liking an instagram post from Trump. my mom started taking me to vs when i started growing enough boob to wear real bras (around 13-15, don't remember exactly) and i hated it from the start. walking into that store made me feel dirty. like i was supposed to be this sexually empowered sexually active woman who wears fancy uncomfortable lingerie, but i was a kid. and as much as i felt like experimenting with lingerie (i genuinely did feel that way at that age too) i didn't want to do that with my mom around helping me find bras that fit and i certainly didn't want to do it in a store lit like a sex dungeon. on top of that, most of their bras back then were push up bras. like, what kind of 15 year old needs a push up bra? now i'm an adult and honestly vs is the worst bra store i've ever tried. like, i still buy from there if they have a good discount or something. but none of their bras fit right and they have a terrible size range. i wear a 28 band size now and they don't even carry that size. i mean, technically they have it online, but that doesn't really count, right? i like to try on a bra before buying it just to make sure it really fits properly, and it never fits. so i can only try sister sizes in store, but even then they don't even have them in stock half the time? i went to the store a while ago to get some new bras and i was looking for a sister size but they didn't even have any of those. like i checked the entire store and they were either out of 30 ds or they just didn't stock any in the first place. like. okay? and even the ones they do stock never fit right. like whenever i try on other brands i don't have remotely the same amount of fit issues as with vs. i think their bras are basically just made for one boob shape and if your boobs don't happen to have the ideal shape for their bras, then go fuck yourself. like i can try on a bra that in any other store would fit me reasonably well and in vs the cup is getting bent out of shape and i have gaping. and then i just have that will all the other sizes the attendants recommend too. idk. i think vs COULD have a comeback. i don't think they particularly deserve one though. and i honestly more than anything think it's simply not going to happen. i literally went to vs yesterday and nothing is changing. they want to pretend to be an inclusive brand, but they don't actually want to be inclusive. they only had band sizes 32-36 in the store i went to for cup sizes b-ddd. this is literally a worse range than stores like macy's that don't even specialize in women's undergarments. they don't even measure bra sizes correctly. they measure you over the bust and then your bust while upright and wearing a bra. my mom got a fitting and they didn't even ask her if she was wearing a push up bra or extra padding or anything before measuring her. i got fitted there and they recommended a 32 dd and when it didn't fit well they just recommended i size up to a 34 d or a 32 ddd or 32 d. and they have to do this because the shop attendants are trained to fit you into one of their bra sizes, not to recommend you a bra that will actually fit. they didn't even mention that they have more sizes online that might fit better. i've gone to boutique stores before and the attendants there will literally tell me to go to a different store that does have my size if they don't have anything that fits right. vs attendants just tell me that's how bras are supposed to fit if i have gaping and quadriboob.

Yes! I am so glad I wasn't the only one getting Kylie Minogue vibes from Sabrina. Tongue in cheek pop music with very similar aesthetic. Even some of their music videos are similar (compare please, please, please with some kind of bliss). I cant help but think that there was a conscious acknowledgment of this at one point or another from SOMEONE on Sabrinas team. Someone had to say "gee, who else at 4'11'' has had a successful pop career, and how did they style/present themselves to appeal to the masses"
🦇 VS should just pack it up, they slept on the inclusive size/empowering/diversity market for too long and other brands have long ago picked up the slack. Thistle and Spire, Elomi, Curvy Kate, Parfait Affinitas, Torrid, Lane Bryant, and there's several small indie brands that are devoted to diversity. If people arent looking for quality then they'll go to the bargain basement of fast fashion- amazon, shein. Btw if you dont want to support VS and you're looking up plus size lingerie, be aware that Adore Me is their plus brand, I bought some from them thru Target without knowing that once.
Teaching tweens to show their a** and cr****.🤬
💸
VS also cannot style naturally curly hair 😂 It just looks frizzy
No, because inclusivity doesn't work for them and they were pretty much forced into it. Their thing was the angels and they should've stuck to that.
There's gotta be a happy medium between not hyper-sexualising women/girls (because it's women/girls getting sexualized way more than it is men/boys) and not villanising female sexuality and actually having sex positive representatives kids can look up to, because sex isn't inherently evil. Curious kids will remain curious regardless of whether female singers wear short skirts or lingerie, and will look to the world for find answers and probably end up pretty confused if pop stars are the only "role models" they have to go to, so parents should be parenting alongside the media, not simply condemning celebrities and slapping a taboo sticker on the topic entirely. Besides, for a lot of kids, sexual innuendos fly completely over their heads and none of the "vulgar" female representations impact them, or not greatly, anyway. And I can totally see why you'd say Kylie, especially Put Yourself In My Place era Kylie, where she's "naked" under a blanket at the end. But for me, Sabrina's new look and sound feel very Dolly Parton-coded, just modernized. Every time I hear "Please Please Please" I feel like I'm listening to a Dolly Parton cover. Love Dolly, so also loving everything Sabrina is doing rn. It's all pretty tame compared to what I was listening to in the 90s and 2000s as a kid, like my naive self was obsessed with songs like Liberty X's Just a Little and Five's When the Lights go out, so to put it in Britney's words, music in the past was not that innocent (uuhh yeahhh)

Lol, I always thought the exaggerated stress and chaos were cringe...
It's all about Rihanna's Fenty shows. Cuz like she said, she actually makes lingerie for everyone.
Interesting video.I kinda heard of them, but never really tried them. Not sure if you saw an earlier comment of mine, but I'm wondering I'd I could have some advice.I feel like I'm not as feminine as you and I have mixed opinions on some of your videos.I don't want to feel like I'm hating you(I think you're cool),but it makes me feel if I like certain things,im a pick me/nlog/internalised misogny, but if I don't I'm fine.Ive seen people say that in order to be a feminist, you need to like makeup, dresses, etc, and if they do I'm happy. But what if someone doesn't like those things.Sometimes I don't feel like a true feminist.
33F, I grew up with VS I remember being a teen girl wanting to wear their lingerie and to be sexy… this brand is NOT okay. Pink is a marketing ploy to sexualize teens even as an adult I am still pissed at them.
Those critics act like the rap community doesn't exist. They drop dead from the first lyrics
23:00 this is getting at my biggest problem with the thing, which was basically two parts why did things look uncomfortable to wear? Like even in the now abhorred shows of before, the models at least looked like they were having fun (and honestly on the day of they probably were, unless they were about to faint from malnourishment and dehydration), dancing a bit with artists in the middle, stuff like that. It was fun to watch, this just ended up looking and FEELING uncomfortable. I thought a bit of a flirty feeling was the trademark of VSFS, and so this didn't feel like one. I'm confused as to what they're trying to say here. Is it "you wanted all shapes and sizes? Well you can have that, here, but then you can't have fun and fabulous"? It's so annoying like why couldn't they just keep the glamorous vibe the whole thing was based on anyway, add more people? I used to like watching the show, and luckily I also never compared myself to the models, in fact after watching I always felt glamorous and sexy and I'm a very average normal woman, I was kind of vicariously living through them I guess. The best thing was that the models seemed super confident in themselves (like you said, I did feel like they owned the room actually, especially some of them) and that's what I wanted to see. There was like one plus sized model this year that for me, seemed to be glowing and I don't remember what they did, a gesture or something that made me go yeah, go girl, but sadly most of them seemed uncomfortable or a bit unsure and with fits like that, who would blame them 💸
That woman who you said had to pull up her leggings - all I could think is how that bra is not supporting her 😢😢 looked painful
I think the VS CEO was right about one thing - The VS is about fantasy. And at the core, there is no shame in that. It's a fantasy for specific people who want to enagage with it. I personally, never saw the appeal of it. I always understood the lingerie was for showing off your body, for male gaze and for women who wanted to buy into that. So, let VS be what it is - a fantasy cheap lingerie for thin white/pale women who want to be ogled by creepy old men. At least they had fun with their fashion shows. Obviously, judging by their latest offer and fashion show trying to force them into changing their values and cater to more people is a failure. Luckily, there are a lot of small businesses and with the power of Internet you're not stuck with only things you see in shopping malls. You can find brands that align with your values and have a range that suits your body. I don't think we should try and demand from brands to be something they're not. I feel there is space for everyone. even crummy sexist fashion brands. you just don't need to buy from them.
As a little kid, I was obsessed with the Rent soundtrack (I had it on CD) and never knew that it was all about sex and drugs. To be honest, I don't think a 10 year old is going to understand the sexual meaning of her Nonsense outros or innuendos in her songs - I think Bed Chem is best example. I would never have figured out "And I bet we’d both arrive at the same time /And I bet the thermostat’s set at six-nine". In comparison to the music I grew up with in the 2000s and 2010s, her music is much less obvious...
Unpopular opinion, just to boost the algorithm a bit more for you: the simplicity of a well fitting beige/neutral bra that is comfortable and just supports your body as is without “decorating it” can be such a power costume though 🪽🦋
Insert winged emoji
I don’t understand why society has such a big problem with female singers and have a couple innuendos in their songs. so many men have innuendos in their songs and no one complains about it, the second it’s a woman all of a sudden she’s a bad role model she is way too vulgar for children, and it’s just like, maybe their music isn’t for children in the first place honey. that’s your problem, not the singers problem
"Sexy" being a feeling rather than a specific look makes it self-evident that it's an internal state NOT something one can attribute or project onto a woman's body. Basically, if you wanna know if it's sexy - you gotta ASK, and anything else is just saying that you find somebody physically attractive regardless of what they feel
Oh man, those Train Like an Angel youtube-videos brought back some dark memories from my teens... Thank you so much for covering this topic Bryony. I've only realised in recent years how much VS-secret, ANTM and the likes actually impacted my body-image as a teen and I think you did a great job of covering that mindset of (what was probably) an entire generation of girls...
I'm late to this clip but find this fascinating. It's not just starvation but dehydration, too. Henry Cavill had to stop drinking water over multiple days just for a bath scene in the Witcher.
I'm just going to keep it real, the whole man vs bear thing was a ridiculous hypothetical that has no attachment to any kind of relevant discourse on women's safety. No points were proven, no needles were shifted, just bizarre women on tiktok and "pick me" dudes just having a weird venting session. Then as usual most of the people use the "if you aren't the ones behaving badly why are you getting offended/angry" when the reality is no one really seems to be angry we are all just perplexed at how bizarre and silly the whole conversation is. Like it's one things to bring up issues with how men behave and treat women and the safety issues that come with that, and there are relevant things to say about that. Like there are many things men can do to not be shitty and many behaviour to unlearn. However this weird man vs bear situation is just women who may have been hurt by a man before or have become hyper-cynical to project their anxiety and trauma onto random men. CALL OUT ACTUAL PERPATRATORS and stop being vague and beating around the bush. Rage bait 101 thanks for playing.
To people who say “you are selfish for not having kids” just fuck off, would you rather me have a kid in the future and neglect it for my cats because I never wanted it in the first place? Yeah no. If you’re a woman telling me I’m selfish for not having a kid then go have about a 100 kids for every woman who doesn’t want one. Maybe I’ll turn it around and call you selfish for not wanting to have the kids in other childless women’s places. And for you men saying that then how about you go to an adoption center right now and raise 100 kids by yourself, or maybe even find a way to get yourselves to have kids instead! I’d gladly take on the seahorse way of life where you men have kids so you don’t have to worry about your so called “population decline”. I’ll happily live with my cats with no husband or boyfriend while I enjoy myself being alone and not having to deal with a man child or a actual child!
And what makes it even more funnier is that when they finally peer pressure a woman into having a child, when she doesn’t care for it much (BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T EVEN WANT IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!) she is berated with questions from those same exact people who pressured her into having a kid saying: “why did you have a kid in the first place if you’re not caring for it!?” Or “you’re such a bad mother for not paying attention to your kid!” It’s almost laughable how they force you to have a kid but are surprised when you don’t care for it much because you NEVER wanted one in the first place!
VS was such a disappointment realizing they didn't make sizes that fit me by the time i was in highschool 💸
Not sure if you have Aerie where you live @BryonyClaire . They're the underwear spin-off brand of American Eagle. They did almost all the things you hoped for in VS. On the online shopping catalogue they had models in all different sizes, body types, abilities, colours. Their bras are really comfortable and cute at the same time, however they don't sell sexy lingerie. I use the past-tense because this past year I've noticed a shift in their models, more of the typical model body as opposed to the previous every-body. I wonder what happened? 🐧🐧
I didn’t expect the jump scare of my favourite Disney villain song but I’m here for hellfire!!!
You do not need a "label" if you are your true self. Self labels like "nice guy", "male feminist", "trans activists" are the biggest redflag. People will know who you are thru your actions.
Dude. The way people judge female starts more than male ones is astonishing. Like, Sabrina danced a little provocatively, and everyone loses their mind and calls her a bad role model. But that old rockstar cheats on his wife and people just shrug or make excuses for him. “He’s a star. What do people expect. Of course he won’t stay loyal.” ewww. People have such double standards.
Now that I think about it, that body standard not only shaped my perception of myself, but how I draw ladies Edit: 🧚♂️
That's not texture or real skin. It is cake face.
It would've been sick if they'd gotten cupcakKe to do one of the concerts, but that's just my two cents 🤧
Just like with any runway show, i always watch the Victoria Secret fashion show for the clothes and the overall experience of models combined with the music ect. Victoria Secret took the typical runway show and exaturated it.If you do not like what they are promoting, just don't watch it. How can you blame them for making you feel a certain way about yourself? That seems more to do with you and no one else
AMAZING VIDEO WELL DONE
🪶
When men finally call me crazy catlady and don't see me as a fuckable piece of meat, I've done everything right!
They could still not give diversity the glamour treatment 💸
The sad truth is it will never work vs is only for certain people carrying standards. Marketing diversity doesn't mean it is accepted since beauty standards existed since stone age.
🪽❤️
Is Les the same one who bought Abercrombie?
The one fantasy they were selling was the male one, then packaged as women's and and made women pay for it. It really doesn't deserve a comeback, since it's already done enough damage to a generation of women to be written out of the history books imo.
💸 🕊️🐦🦇
Thank you for making this video! I’m a Lingerie Designer working on a natural fiber collection and hearing about what people actually want and need out of these garments is really helpful and affirms that I’m headed in the right direction ✨😊✨

Truthfully I think a big part of it is not wanting to pay digital fx artists enough to produce quality cgi to make actors look realistically malnourished. We have advanced cgi that could be used for this purpose, but it takes a lot of time and is very expensive. Why invest that money when you could force actors to starve themselves is their line of thinking.
17:06 FYI, this is (La)Lisa. The aesthetic for this specific song is rebel, motor-core, edgy. VS didn’t tell her to use the motorbike, that’s part of her set.
What is this "For Female Gaze for Male Gaze"??? the show before majority were designed by women its not "male gaze" its just design better than the people they are hiring now, the difference is the people who design for the show before are couture designers now they are activist designer, the difference is one have talent and one just says what people wants to hear but don't have anything to show for it
