  • Phyllis prepares a rich and briny low country oyster stew using only four simple ingredients plus salt and pepper. This is a combination of what she liked best from her mom's and grandma's oyster stews. She adds a twist to make the stew richer with more oyster flavor. Enjoy!

    This was the way our Beautiful Mom always woke us up in the cold mornings so we could go to school. All 4 of us would jump put of bed to be the first to get a big bowl. Mom would always use at least a quart to 1/2 gallon of oysters. How I miss her so much. Mmmuuuaaahhh to my Mom and Dad for providing the oysters..

    Brilliant! Best recipe I found on youtube........My Mom made delicious oyster stew using your same ingredients I believe. This was wonderful....the cutting of the oysters made for Oysters in every spoonful just like you said! Plus the blending of the Liquor and the tough part of the oyster gave an additional flavor boost. Absolutely delicious! I'm eating a bowlful the next day and it's even better then fresh. Thank you

      One of my friends that grew up in Key West he told me about a recipe that’s super simple, but it uses only evaporated milk, and then he grates one carrot along with some butter and black pepper, and of course the oysters! Super simple and the carrot offsets the saltiness from the Brian and then if you want more salt I guess you could have it, but it is so easy and delicious!

    What does the evaporated milk do for the dish?

    • @sissyjollie
      @sissyjollie 4 года назад +2

      Evaporated milk gives it a rich flavor similar to using half and half or heavy cream. My Mom always had several cans in her pantry and there was a big difference in the price. I want mine to taste just like my Mom’s.

    PERFECT ! This is the ONLY way a Southern gal makes Oyster Stew ! ( 8th generation Atlantan ). Only change I would make is to put the oysters into the melted butter and let the edges curl first.
