@@ceshmate1953its not fair to ignore.mods.when it comes to reviewing bethesda games when they deliberately give modding support and leave out details for modders to fill. Bethesda games are sandboxes first and foremost, and the narrative of their games is not the stories in them but the pace you take to immerse yourself in that world.
Modding is also a part of that. You get to take your own pace with modifying the sandbox, you get to set the narrative. You get to enjoy the game as you see fit.
That's what separates bethesda from the rest. Mods are a part of the Bethesda experience, and that is by choice.

Your description of the internal scale of the ships gives me some hope for the next Fallout game, one of the things I had always wanted since the OG Fallouts was to have just a few vaults but make them as big as they logically should be, as big as the art with the line of people stretching out of sight says they must be.

    • @Chris_Sizemore
      @Chris_Sizemore 10 месяцев назад +4

Let me be the bearer of bad news. The colony ship is just like the vaults in Bethesda's Fallout games. It is big enough to give you a taste and a feeling that it is a colony ship, that it is bigger than other ships, but it isn't a full scale colony ship. Other ships and facilities in Starfield are the same way. Things that should be huge are big, but if it isn't necessary for game play space, parts are hinted at by inaccessible doors and corridors but not fully detailed out. Like in one side mission you go exploring a lost and downed cargo vessel. The ship is huge. The interior is big too, but the only area you explore is the entrance, a living space, and a single cargo hold. You don't get access to the bridge. The ship looks like it has multiple cargo sections. The ship is much larger than the area you explore.
The area you do explore, that is set in front of you has a lot of detail put into it. Lots of junk and garbage to sift through. In places there have been battles you'll find blood smears. Occasional burnt sections. Lots of damaged stuff. Areas that were peaceful before you arrived usually look used and lived in rather than immaculate. Sometimes you find immaculate, especially in highly civilized areas like Atlantis. The longer you play, the more you'll notice recycled assets and procedurally generated content. That said, that procedurally generated content had a lot of effort put into it and it shows.

    • @uome20bukz
      @uome20bukz 10 месяцев назад +11

I haven’t even played this game. But the people that call it “Skyrim in space” as an insult or use it as a way to describe the game’s flaws or something fail to realize how awesome that description makes the game sound.
I mean, who wouldn’t want to play Skyrim set in space, traveling the universe?
I’m a huge Witcher 3 fanboy and if someone described CDPR’s next game as “it’s just Witcher 3 in space” I’d be like “tell me more….”
The “skyrim in space” crowd just show really how idiotic they sound anyway. I mean, what about the game, other than it seeming to be open world, is anything like Skyrim? Is it because, other than the space travel element, it has all the elements of an open world RPG, the same elements that literally every open world RPG has, regardless of the developer?
Just like the people that constantly compare every new MK game to Injustice, saying things like “Injustice 3 is looking lit” or “it’s just a reskinned Injustice” even though the games are nothing like Injustice other than being a fighting game.

@@uome20bukzwhen I first heard of the game I assumed it would be "Skyrim in Space," and that wasn't a bad thing to me. What that meant to me was it would have a world with the scale and level of detail of Skyrim, Fallout, etc. Another way I described what I was expecting and assumed Starfield would be was "Bethesda's take on Mass Effect." Don't get me wrong Bioware killed it with Mass Effect, but Bethesda RPGs have always given greater freedom of choice beyond Paragon or Renegade path. I remember having to abandon one of my early Morrowind playthroughs because you have the freedom to do anything, including accidentally killing a character tied to the main quest. Starfield is exactly what I expected and I'm loving ever second of it.

That's why I've been of the position that many, many computer game reviewers DON'T play the games properly for years. Not only are they bad at playing games, but they also don't utilise their intuition and play the game in unconventional manners, nor do they challenge themselves to get better at the game, play on higher difficulties or give themselves handicaps to make the gameplay more interesting. They only play a few bits of the main path or rarely experiment with hidden gameplay options. They're the sort of people who review a car by driving it down a B-road at 35 km/h for an hour before driving it back to the dealership, after complaining that the car is "boring and uninspired".

The game is good. It has the typical BGS flaws for sure but it has definitely all the BGS qualities. I'd say it's better than Fallout 4 and close to Skyrim in more ways than one.
If you are into Bethesda games for the immersive story telling and open endedness it's definitely worth checking.
Sure a lot of things you'll find on planets is very similar content (if not pure copy paste) but so are the bandits attacking you along he road in Skyrim and the amount of actually crafted settlements and NPCs is way beyond what they ever did before (and many of it is quite good IMHO).

I never really played a Bethesda game and I'm enjoying it. Facial animations give me that PS3/Xbox 360 energy, but I like the casual combat and surveying planets is pretty comfy. I think it's a chill game to just sit back and go on your own.
I feel like most of the heat this game got was because you couldn't actually fly your ship nor explore the whole planet within one landing. I mean... are you kidding? People want a game with good graphics and content to be hundreds of times larger than Minecraft. Wut?
If you go into this game expecting a space simulation? You will be disappointed. If you understand this is a RPG above anything else, you will enjoy it.

I was also finding the whole- pick a system, pick a star, pick a planet, pick a city thing annoying, but yes, it does add scale to something that might otherwise lose track of it. Realizing that a tiny speck on one map is something on a scale you cannot humanly comprehend once you get there is good way to deal with the necessary existential horror of space travel.

@@grantlawrence4600 This is it right here. 90% of the hate for Starfield has absolutely nothing to do with Starfield. It's people who have clowned on BGS games for years but never actually played one (because of they did - *gasp* - they might like it!) and people who want to sh*t on every non-indie dev they see.
I played 9 hours on launch day (which was 2 days ago, not 8 days ago, that was pre-launch) and encountered a single minor graphical bug (the same "NPCs not looking at you during dialogue" bug that every BGS game has always had) and that was all. It was an amazing and utterly flawless experience. I didn't go to bed until 10:30 in the morning. It has ruined my sleep schedule this entire week and I am so happy it has. More to the point, this is the most bug-free launch Bethesda has ever had, I think, so everyone saying it's "full of bugs" is a moron.
Last night I was jumping into random systems trying to find some pirates to kill to rank up my Piloting skill, and this space trucker who I'm 80% sure was drunk started warning me about pirates and a distress call in another system. So I go there, and embark on an whole ass quest arc. It had like 6 quests, each with several objectives, and took me 3 hours to finish. And it was AWESOME! I saved a war hero, kept one of the few xenobiology labs in known space that wasn't dedicated to making weapons from falling into pirate hands, and made a big step encouraging continued peace between the UC and LC. And I had the option to resolve that quest several other ways. AND THIS WAS ONE SIDE QUEST!
BG3 may be GOTY material but Starfield has it beat, as far as I'm concerned. The fact that half of RUclips can't stop complaining about it says a lot about that half of RUclips and nothing about Starfield.

yeah but the issue is rdr2s main story is one of a kind and so is the game world. starfields story is really laid back and kind of old school for the year 2300. people expected 10/10 generational game but starfield is just 7/10. once you play the game you will understand the reviews. not a lot of memorable characters or voice acting (maybe the VAs work gets lost because of the lack of good cutscenes, facial motions, or character design as most characters look soft as a babys bottom.) the open world compared to rdr2 is basically dead as npcs dont react to the player in meaningful ways and they just stand there with no thoughts or emotions behind their poorly rendered faces. you will NEVER find interesting characters or locations in starfield besides side quests or main quests because everything else is just reused buildings filled with "outlaw", "pirate", "spacer" with no narrative. sorry for the long comment. i was just going through and saw rdr2 being compared to this game and lost my shit. its a cool little upgrade from fallout 4s settlement system if you liked that bit

@@MrWeenuk21I actually found myself comparing it to rdr2 as I played. Not in terms of how rdr2 paid attention to tiny details like people eating food and stuff, but rather in terms of finding NPCs and places spread in a vast world, and waiting to be found. Rdr2 accomplished it with great streamlined stories, intricate voice acting and memorable characters, but Starfield accomplishes the same feeling for me with deep lore, environmental storytelling and purposeful gaps that you can fill with head canon. They both capture the charm of exploration imo.

Honestly it would be nice if there was a list of destinations with settlements on the map screen. I personally forgot where Hopetown was once and I had to spend a couple minutes trying to find the right system with it.

Facts. I had to Google places where was trying to go back to. It’s an okay game but much can be improved. I give it a solid 7/10.

An in game wiki would be nice. Mount and Blade Bannerlord had this and it was super simple and handy. It also be very lore friendly to have a wikipedia you build on. They could even make a computer you can manually access it from on your ship for those immersive as fuck urges.

This was the exact type of quick, down to earth review that the community needs.
If somebody wants a hour+ video essay to find out if they should play a game, they're thinking way too hard about it.

Nah I disagree, nothing wrong with people watching and enjoying hour+ reviews. Especially if it’s to decide whether they should spend triple A+ price for it these days, money is valuable. Tho yea reviews like this are pretty nice too

It was pure subjective biased assay. Actually, the community needs fair pros and cons review, so it could save their money till the game is patched and got a discount. $70-100 for the beta build. Nice try Bethesda, but not on my watch

I was expecting an average game with microtransaction. But man Starfield is so amazing, breath taking, the way the content is presented to you is super immersive. Guys, Bethesda did it again.

loved your review. people nowadays are focusing on to many small things we never would have worried about in the past and completely blowing them up so im glad to see a review that isn't all that you answered the question, is it fun and worth the money, yes and for most xbox users its free. the other side of reviews are people complaining about things todd never said were in the game.

Completely agree, I think the advice flying around the internet was to grind the story asap. Which from my experience is wrong. I picked up a side quest to get iron. Went to a random moon to collect it and ended up in an abandoned facility that turned into a huge dungeon with lots of loot. Came out of that, found a ship that landed, turned out to be mercs. Stole their ship, and got a ton of stuff out of it. Game really shines when you step off the beaten path and innate humor in the game is top notch. BG3 is still my favorite though :D

I think the immersion would have been on point if you had cinematics for planet entries from space and could jump through systems and planet landings from the cockpit. The system is there since you can on occasions do it with the scanner, all they have to do is refine it further.
