I am old and dying. I watch this video and now see this is video is a harder but far better way to have lived.
20 years ago I was at a small marina, a man in his late 30s was prepping his small sailboat, we started to talk as I watched standing on the dock.
His wife divorced him, he lost everything, he had run in the rat race for years for nothing. The Courts stuck it to him and he was just done with it all. We drank a beer and I watched him sail off in the sunset. I have always wondered what happened to him. This videos reminds me of him.

I remember watching this video 8 years ago and have so much wonder and excitement in life thinking I could do this. I wish I could have found a way to make it my reality. If you're young and watching this and wanting it to be your life, do whatever it takes. 8 years flies by so fast and you'll be stuck in the rat race not knowing what life is all about.

I watched this video back in 2014. It inspired me to kayak from my home-city Indianapolis to New Orleans (1400 miles total) by connecting local rivers that culminate in the Mississippi River (for 900 miles). I've always wanted to learn how to sail, and this guy inspired the heck out of me. I haven't sailed yet or lived close enough to big enough bodies of water to learn, but still on my list. @emphasight, what are you up to these days??
Like others have said, this was my introduction to Bahamas and Ben Howard. I've seen both in concert a couple times now. Insanely powerful video.

Fear that I might one day regret not finishing college or not pursuing greater things. That is why I have so much respect for you for sacrificing everything so you can find your happiness. Awesome, incredible video. I have watched a lot of sailing videos and spent a good bit of time on and around boats; one question I see and hear a lot is how people afford it. In reality, if you have built up even a small residual income and your children/ spouse/ other can take care of themselves, you can live for small money in a big way if you live simple like you see in this video. If your main expense is food and disciplined marina stops / limited drinks, touring activity, then $100 a week is very doable (especially if you are building up a small savings every month for emergencies). If you "have to have" sat phone, radios and gadgets, insurances, expensive motor, lots of safety net, then probably not. Funny how technology has also helped reduce the cost for those that research what they really need... with a smart phone and a back-up, about $20 worth of apps and a solar panel, one can navigate a great deal near the coast and islands.
Thanks for sharing the video and fair winds.

Nice video brother and thanx for sharing. I'm of Greek origin and as my father was in the Greek Navy was wondering of doing the same for the islands and continuing tradition. Can you help pick and choose one for the best bang for my buck ? I mean also used wouldn't be a problem. I would also like to state that I would be mostly traveling alone but would be nice to have it also accommodate a guest but I know this would call for bigger boat. Hhmm ,BASICALLY SPEAKING, I would need a solo boat but MOSTLY Important is that I would be able to Travel Anywhere, and I mean anywhere in the world, Thank-you again Bro! Anybody, that has information on my dilemma feel free to Not me a line !! Be Safe.. ALSO, I've heard about Pirates.. ??? Like I wouldn't want to end up Shark Meat and giving up my Boat either..

Given what you're doing, fear doesn't really suit, since you've overcome that to do what you're doing. So giving into it for another aspect of life is not good. My motto is.. suck it an see.. if it tastes good... then great... if not.. well try something else... So go find urself someone to sail with, it'd be a helluva lot more enjoyable. Trust me... you will be content. The ones who aren't, are the ones that didn't take that leap into the dark. Subbed

I think he is lost at sea, tragically. His last communication was during a bad storm.

When was this? I can find nothing about it.

@@signalfire6 I saw all his videos about a year and a half ago. His very last one he was heading into a storm, and that was it, his channel went dark and he never responded back to anyone after that. Oddly enough, this was in the Bermuda triangle.
