After the destruction of their hometown, childhood friends Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashiro make a pact to become officers in the Defense Force-a militarized organization tasked with protecting Japan from colossal monsters known as "kaiju." Decades later, the 32-year-old Kafka has all but given up on his dreams of heroism. Instead, he cleans up the remains of the slaughtered kaiju after they are defeated by valiant soldiers-including Mina, who has successfully achieved their shared goal.
Upon meeting his new coworker, Reno Ichikawa, Kafka faces a mirror of his past self: an ambitious young man whose one desire is to fight as a member of the Defense Force. Unfortunately, the two are soon involved in a freak encounter with a rogue kaijuu. Though Kafka demonstrates his innate heroic nature and rescues Reno from certain doom, he is left gravely injured.
While both men recover in a hospital, Kafka is seemingly attacked by another one of the beasts. As a result, he gains the ability to transform into a humanoid kaijuu with the strength and powers of the massive monsters menacing Japan. Dubbed "Kaijuu No. 8" by the military, Kafka resolves to use his newfound gifts for the greater good. Tied together by mutual respect, Kafka and Reno set out to join warriors like Mina at the forefront of the Defense Force.

I like the theory that Kafka's Kaiju is nature's way of maintaining balance that's why he hates his fellow Kaijus, much like Godzilla.
See I didn't actually think about that at the time when the bug who's saying kaiju's kill? I was thinking it was more going along the lines of fight back bitch Or else we're both going to die, but honestly, that also makes a lot of sense that it's naturally trying to kill the guy since it registers him as a kaiju. Basically I would like that

Problem with that being that Kaikus don't seem to be natural and that nature often performs Ecological Suicide.
The closest thing to self-preserving ecosystems that exist are multi-cellular organisms and that's because those "ecosystems" reproductively compete to be the least suicidal via Apoptosis.
Edit: that is to say that the only way for Kaiju to develop that sort of trait/behavior is if they engaged in a collective reproductive process, similar to the migratory-colony-forming behavior of Dictyostelium Discoideum, with would have developed it.

@@marcusdaloia2974 unless something happens later in the manga everything you've seen very much can be natural and done in nature. Will animate nature. Of course not real life nature, but like everything that they do is relatively natural. So there's a decent chance that they all come from a certain place and they're not man-made or anything. Unless of course something in the manga said otherwise. I don't read the manga but from what we've seen in the anime, they very much could be natural and this could be true that kafkas is a deterrent

I found this moment to be really satisfying. Bro literally asked for it, Kafka did everything to avoid fighting him.

I loved the addition of the sad music as well. It was so reminiscent of the Azula&Zuko fight: the fight here is not the goal, and nor is it something to be celebrated. It's such a brilliant moment to highlight just how much of a tragedy it is for Kafka to lose control of the Kaiju against his will, knowing that he was almost going to kill Kokeru's father.
Personally, I didn't like the music choice. I already get that the point was to prove that that kafka is a human, but it kinda ruined the fight scene to me which i think is the best aspect of the series
@@gaboshkaboi6885 I agree, could've maybe muffle out the battle sounds a bit and change the music to be more fitting but you can NOT get rid of sounds in a battle. Those are one of the most precious and important parts of such a scenery.
@@gaboshkaboi6885 that's cool. I personally liked the song they chose for this fight. I've read the manga, so when I watched the anime I wasn't expecting them to do something like that. I think it was super cool! Y'know?
I knew what was gonna happen anyways to the general director shinomiya, but the song held me at the edge of my seat and made me think, "Wait what- he's gonna die- wait no that's not-"
The song held that bit of tension and surprise that I never knew I needed in a battle scene. I loved it!
That's just my opinion though. I just really felt like I needed to share it here😅

That part at the end though, Nine thanks to Ten has gotten the layout of the Kaiju Defense Force's base of operations. This series is no longer a simple Defense Force dealing with Kaiju encounters. With the existence of Daikaijus becoming more intelligent, the kaijus have set the stages for an all-out war against the Defense Corp. Ten was merely the vanguard of a bigger war that is about to begin.
I guess the ending gonna be Kafka defeated all kaiju leaving him the last one so he has to kill himself, it's the only way.

If you are a manga reader you would know that the red form is nowhere near his full power. The Kaiju inside kafka was pissed that a human was practically annoying him😂. The General maybe the strongest human. If the strongest human can't beat kaiju 8 imagine the strength of the kaijus.

I don't want to sound weird or cliche but I really want to thank all of the fans.
Because of so many fans now we're getting a sequel. I finally found an anime that I am totally invested in and I'm caught up on the manga.
Mind you I haven't tried to catch up on any manga since high school of the Dead and attack on Titan.

Narumi's special eyes aren't getting animated?
It could be an issue with how much effort the manga eye effects might take, and there may be a different effect used, easier to apply in post-production. Or, it could be like the M4 Carbine style rifles getting replaced with Kriss Vector based weapons, and be a simple style choice on the animator's part.
