This song was a tribute to a Detroit Dj name Mojo. Back in 80's, Mojo was a sensational Dj who played B-52 music religiously despite the fact that he worked on an R & B radio station and he refused to follow a play list. "Whammy," was one of Mojo's catch phrases. The B-52's even appeared on Mojo's radio program which aired late in the late evening til midnight. I miss those days.
Facts right there. And the band wanted to go and do interview on a Rn B station. (Whether we are speaking of the same station In Im not sure) The record company was completely against it because they thought it would send the wrong message...such backwards times. Dont know if they ever went on or not.
I really enjoyed seeing this video - especially Kate and Cindy! There's not another female singing duo as amazing they are, and always were. Gimme some more Kate and Cindy!!! Much-LOVE!
Was sitting in a HUGE auditorium at UCLA waiting to add a class back in Sept 1979. They were playing KROQ over the PA system and then Rock Lobster starts playing. As the song crescendos I'm thinking, Oh my god. This is the best song I've ever heard. When the song ended, I jumped out of my seat and yelled. Like Archemedes screaming Eureka, I was hooked. 41 years later, still love them like mad.
man, that's awesome! this performance shows that the b-52's know how to rock! keith plays such a hot guitar (and he's so absolutely gorgeous) and fred, kate, and cindy really belt it out on this one! that's always been a favorite from "whammy"
Oh My GOODNESSS! I so love these people! I just want to hug them all real tight! I will never forget my brother sitting me down, I must have been around 8 or 9 and he told me, "you gotta check this out" He played Planet Claire for me...it was an experience I will never forget!
that was awesome!!! I can't believe that after all these years they still sound that good. Keith sounds incredible! he sings with more energy than he did when he was young, what a freak. LOVE THEM!!!!!!
Love watching Cindy dance and smile and sing, there is a joy she projects. Kate's great, too, but I can't keep my eyes off of Cindy when she's on screen......
Yeah!! Whammy Kiss...CLASSIC B-52's... Fan...tastic!!! When a girl call me i say... "On Planet X-ohhhh it Won't be long now I got a light year to Get to the phone now I'm gonna contact you When I get home!" ;D Greetings from Brazil (Porto Alegre City) to Cindy, Kate, Fred, Keith and the eternal Rick... Thank's for postin' Booboobay1!!
I got friends and myself three nights of shows ending with center pit 4th row last tour show in Atlanta ! You can still get tickets 3rf party like tickpick , I did well on 2nd night 10th row center aisle.
The B-52s are from Athens Ga... I live in Macon, Ga., just a couple of hours away from Athens.. I'd like to say, t7hat I've seen them in Concert 7 times, and if they played MORE Concerts, I'd be able to turn that 7 into A MILLION
I don't think the Whammy version's that great either, a lot is due to how it's mixed (the vocals are just a bit too quiet compared to the instruments) but the vocals sound rushed and bored too.
Out MF-ing standing!!! Fred, Kate, Cindy, (who is on guitar?) The coolest hippies ever! Perhaps the best party band ever as well. Fred Schnider's solo "just fred" has some serious tunes as well.
Had no idea Sara Lee was back on the bass for them as late as 2002. She switched to the Indigo Girls in the late 1980s as she preferred their music. I guess she came back to pay the bills? Obviously she did not mind working with the B-52s still.

@@joelashadali Attitudes have moved forward a bit: CMTV awarded the B52s just a few yrs back ;-) ✅
This performance is OUTSTANDING! Someone tell me why they're NOT in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame yet?
Right!!!????
Great question. They're a great band!
Right!!!!
Bias
I second that
Keith Strickland's contributions to the band are too often overlooked. Just spectacular here!
Hey saved the band after Ricky passed away. Love Keith!
The b-52's ..more incredible band of rock music ...their style is unique and don't exist a band in the world that sings as they--111
They were already like your cool aunt and uncles at this point, but they're still going even today. Underrated song.
❤...
cindy wilson is the best voice i love her she is amazing
I really enjoyed seeing this video - especially Kate and Cindy! There's not another female singing duo as amazing they are, and always were. Gimme some more Kate and Cindy!!! Much-LOVE!
They throw down 🎶
They’re the most underrated duo of all time

Sara Lee is an excellent bassist
Saw her on tour with Gang of Four a couple years ago. Pylon opened!
What a great performance

Man, you just can't sit still when you hear this song. One of my favorites from them.
One of my favourite B's tunes. It's just so happy and crazy and nonsense - so B-52's.
I love this song! It's one of my favorites from them.
Rock and Roll at its finest. :)
Sarah Lee rockin' the bass!
🎉
Excellent Video.... !... Nunca pasaran de moda.... es lo mejor de los 70 y 80s....
Oh My GOODNESSS! I so love these people! I just want to hug them all real tight! I will never forget my brother sitting me down, I must have been around 8 or 9 and he told me, "you gotta check this out" He played Planet Claire for me...it was an experience I will never forget!
In other words, I wish I had the opportunity to see them a MILLION more times.... I LOVE THEM.....FRED, CINDY, KEITH, and

Incredible version, far better than the original...amazing band, always makes me happy
@Martin Ajzenszlos: Amazing version! Ahead of my time, but I'm lovin' this band! Why aren't they in the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame yet? SMH...

this song takes me back , this bands music is so incredible , if you had those songs crankin , and it didn't make you move , you were dead.
Great performance! Keith is rockin'. :)
This is so much better than the studio version, with Keith's ripping Strat carrying the rythym.
that was awesome!!! I can't believe that after all these years they still sound that good. Keith sounds incredible! he sings with more energy than he did when he was young, what a freak. LOVE THEM!!!!!!
Es la que más me gusta de los B-52´s , hace tiempo que la buscaba.
This is the best live version of this I've ever heard. Awesome!
They all sound great! :) I am impressed that Keith can still play a mean guitar! :)
Greatest Concert I've ever seen, And I have seen hundreds. The Crowd energy will give a buzz! THE WHAMMY TOUR KICKED ASS!!!
Fantastic B-52's: They remember me my twenties and the sound of America in a different way: rythm, style and sympathy. Thanks for the video live.

Great song. They did this great live!
Most excellent. One of their songs that paralyzes me in excitement and makes me go "Yes! That's The B52s right there!"
Guitar tone=excellent
You just can't freakin' sit still with this song playin'.
They're such a pleasure
🎸 Still my favorite party band. "WHAMMY" 2019
Love watching Cindy dance and smile and sing, there is a joy she projects. Kate's great, too, but I can't keep my eyes off of Cindy when she's on screen......
By the way, she's in full Pony mode @ :42, I freakin' love it ! LOL

cindy and kate, i miss you.................caracas-venezuela
Still groovin' as they were in the 70's.
B-52 いいね!!
Wow ..Athens GA
This was pretty sweet!
it was the youth, came a few extra kilos, but the talent is still in them ...
I got friends and myself three nights of shows ending with center pit 4th row last tour show in Atlanta ! You can still get tickets 3rf party like tickpick , I did well on 2nd night 10th row center aisle.

And on a side note: what a great drummer Sterling Campbell is.
This live version is so much better than the recorded track!
me too From Japan
Yeah, this version ROCKS!!!
I don't think the Whammy version's that great either, a lot is due to how it's mixed (the vocals are just a bit too quiet compared to the instruments) but the vocals sound rushed and bored too.
Frank Iezzi What do you mean? The studio version is great! Ok...both are ok 👍👍👍👍👍
I want Mammie to throw me some whammy!

Yes!
Vienen por primera vez a Peru en noviembre 2008 , espero estar en primera fila.
does anyone know where you might find guitar tab for this?
6th february 2002
yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh
No, those are earphone monitors so he can hear the sound mix in his ears. Sounds a lot better than floor monitor speakers.
funplex al cover is on b52 s site, both are still hot both!
Out MF-ing standing!!! Fred, Kate, Cindy, (who is on guitar?)
The coolest hippies ever! Perhaps the best party band ever as well.
Fred Schnider's solo "just fred" has some serious tunes as well.
Guitarist is Keith Strickland who's been with the band since the beginning (originally the drummer when Ricky Wilson was still alive)
this has heaps more energy than the album version
Kate Pierson is a Goddess
Fred the angry looking singer lol
Man Kieth did a great job
RIP Ricky
Had no idea Sara Lee was back on the bass for them as late as 2002. She switched to the Indigo Girls in the late 1980s as she preferred their music. I guess she came back to pay the bills? Obviously she did not mind working with the B-52s still.
For you, Carla.
Bah (wbmj).
Did Conan talk with them on this episode as well?
I am still wondering why this band has not been inducted in the Hall of Fame blah, blah, blah..they deserve to be there since...centruries ago.
kate is still awsome the b52,s live. 69vader
I'm noticing more Cindy than Kate on this one.
He's better than drugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Para você, Cá.
